I'm a southerner too and you say Appalachian the way I've always heard it. I will Subscribe to your channel. Have a healthy and peaceful journey. 🚶🏽♀️
I live in Tennessee, you say it the right way. I'm not a long distance hiker, but like you, I watch and follow several hikers on their journey. I like your realistic approach. I'll be following you along the trail. How can I not? You're starting on my birthday! Happy Trails.
Since my first AT section in 2010, I've dislocated a knee, broke a leg, had a heart attack, and torn even more tissue in both knees and feet. Yet, I return for more. I feel you. Godspeed north.
I’m excited to watch your videos as I gear up to head out for my own NOBO attempt in early April. Its refreshing to hear that there’s still others out there that plan to start slow. I get a little discouraged when I see people starting off from the Approach trail doing 20 mile days right out the gate.
April will be here so soon!! Excited for you :) Not comparing is hard for me, but I try to remember that only I know my body and only I will care for my body. I have nothing but time to finish the feat! In 2020, I didn't hit 20 miles/day until after Hot Springs and I still considered that a "longer" day.
My family on borh sides are from the johnson city and jonesborough, tn areas. I finally got to move back home after having lived 34 years in richmond, va. My goal is to begin doing section hikes on the AT over next couple of years and then when I retire in about 6 more years I hope to try doing a thru hike to celebrate my retirement from the corporate rat race i have been on now for 35 years. My dad's mother Bonnie (Yates) Denton grew up less then 4 miles just outside of erwin,tn in a little community called Bumpus Cove located along banks of the beautiful nolichuky river.
Congrats! On all the things. Look forward to following along. When you get to Marion, VA be sure to stop by the outfitter, Marion Outdoors, and hiker hostel, The Merry Hiker Inn. Happy Trails! -Coach
Congratulations on getting back out there. It takes a lot to go back out, knowing what it takes to hike day in and day out. Reminds me of a year ago prepping for my thru. More mental than physical IMHO. Rooting for you!
I remember meeting you in 2020 at a shelter shortly before you got off trail. Like your hiking buds, I was fortunate enough to finish my thru hike. I'll be following along on your journey. Have a blast! --Jet, Class of 2020
Be prepared for cold temps. Consider a hand warmer to help when its very cold. I like the Zippo that burn lighter fluid. It is warmer and burns longer than a chemical warmer. Treat all of your gear and outer clothing with Permethrin just before you leave for the trail. Ramdino reported that a hiker has already come down with Lyme Disease this year. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
@@LizardLopes Use safety equipment when using the Permethrin. Be prepared for the cold with hand warmers, an emergency blanket, and a couple of tealight candles. If you get the big AMK Emergency blanket, you can use it with the candles to create a hot poncho set up that can warm you up if you get very cold. You can also put the emergency blanket on top of your sleep pad for a little extra warmth. A hot cocoa just before bed will warm you for a while. If you get desperate, you can do like I did in Boy Scouts 60 years ago. Build a fire, warm up rocks and take them to bed. Not too hot. A Nalgene bottle of hot water, wrapped in a towel works well too. Consider waterproof socks. There are advantages to cold weather. No snakes, bears, nor mosquitoes. Good Luck, Rick
Good luck! I have a goal to thru-hike someday. I broke my ankle 6 months ago and, like you, know that I may not always be physically able to do it. I hope my ankle holds up for my kids to get out of the house, so I can do it.
I have hope for you! I broke my ankle/lateral malleolus in 2016, shin/tibia in 2017, and knee/lateral tibial plateau in 2022... what are the odds I'll break my right leg for a fourth time? haha!
Thats cool! Im starting my 3rd thruhike of the AT, myself in 3 weeks or so so best of luck to you. If I can be of any help please ask away. I hope you succeed. If you do I guarantee that it will be worth every step along the way!!
Good luck with your hike...Can't wait to follow along and thank you for pronouncing Appa...latch..Ian trail correct...So many get it wrong...Even a girl that is doing the trail this year that says she is originally from my town which I question gets it wrong so thanks for getting it correct🙌
Well done video young lady. Take it from an old fart that didnt listen... take care of your knees. LOL. I love your attitude, it will carry you a long way in this world. I am going to sub so that I can follow your journey. Keep smiling.
Kelsey I'm not sure you ever competed with my cousins but I'm sure you know them! My Mom's side of the family is all from Elkhart, Goshen, Middlebury area! Happy trails as you prep to hit the trail!! Hope to see you out there this year! I'm most likely starting a week or two after you!🤘🏻👊🏻👊🏻
I probably do! I started competing in 2015. Even if we weren’t the same years, the Indiana pageant community is pretty close! Hope to see ya out there!
Hello from a fellow Hoosier (Goshen). I started section hiking the AT Spring of 2021. Will be doing a section from NOC to Fontana this April. Will keep a look out for you. Best of Luck to you. Jim.
Glad to see you're pursuing your goal of completing the AT even if it's a day or two later than your first start 😀 Enjoy the trail and I'm pulling for your knees, I have one that sidelined me from running so can appreciate the concern.

Good advice! If only my hearing wasn't nearly as bad as my knee... haha I will try to listen to them!
