Original german pneumatic cold-war-siren reactivated

- There she stands in a new & fresh painted look at best weather conditions: An original german pneumatical high-power-siren from times of cold-war.
And some more: This old-school-siren was reactivated with a new important siren-signal: it is the "air raid signal".
This type of siren is called Pintsch/Bamag and it was constructed in the middle of the 60ies. This rare siren was only in use to alerting the voluntary FD in case of fires all the last years. Or it will triggered the fire-alert on every 1st Saturday in a new month. That´s an ordinary siren test in this rural area.
But recently it was converted to trigger a new and important siren-signal: the AIR RAID SIGNAL (1 min hi/low tone). So it had the first run with the new signal since many years on 10-18-2017.
There was also a siren test in whole Bayern at this day! (The test signal is "warning or the air raid signal". Every 6 months is a regularly siren test.)
It is important to warn the population in case of disasters like chemical accidents, storms or other possible dangers.

A big siren fan called "Glockengiesser" made this work come true.

The original diesel engine is not in function inside the siren´s machine room. The necessary compressed air for the pneumatic PiBa-siren will alternatively produced by an electric air-compressor. His location is approx. 350 meters away down in the firehouse. The compressed air with 10 bar will be pumped up by a blue plastic pipe. This blue pipe is laid under the field or meadow and runs in the underground across the field. U can see this pipe connected with the compressor in my video at the end.
The location is in the near of the Chiemsee/Traunstein (Bayern/Germany). There are many other good recordings of this pneumatic siren in action, but only with "fire alert" signal!

We hope that this special siren will do a very good job for many years in the future. - Наука та технологія
It sounds sad
LMFAO
@Dingus Games Not anymore >:)
It does

No one:
That fly in your room trying to fly out of your close window:
Lol
it looks like a q-tip
I will put that in my ear if I was a giant XD.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes it does look like a q-tip
Loudest q-tip ever
That echo and reverb is absolutely EPIC.. The SPL required to 'excite' an outdoor acoustic environmant is mind boggling..
These sirens are weird
Yes I am from the U.S. but I think these are wierd
The shape of the siren, the wavering tremolo effect it has, the way it shuts off for a brief moment in between wind down and wind up, everything about this thing is creepy.
That’s terrifying.
yes it is and wierd what is cold war lol
@@loganethancaden3 Look it up on wikipedia "cold war".
Boi tennis here
It’s broken
Yes
You'd swear your could hear other sirens sounding in the background!
because there is
there is all sirens a connected

Or it's echoing
That echo is positively eerie!
It sounds like something you would hear in a horror game. I would not wanna hear that in the distance at night
Imagine hearing this at 3 AM.
Siren heads gonna get ya lmfao
*siren head is crying*
THEY'RE IN THE TREES!
what a unique sound! i love it!
Amazing. I was told that they don't use these in Bayern anymore (Thanks for interesting description).
war-stock re-animators: lol we got this working again look
german veterans: they're in the TREES man the TREES
Yes! if only they did this with thunderbolts. Also, I wish the diesel compressor will be fixed. I love diesel sounds!
Um, they do...
@@greecherthecreature WHAT!? 😱 I'M SURPRISED!
@@greecherthecreature They kind of don't, unlike a pintsch bamag which you see in this video, a thunderbolt has a roots blower and is not pneumatic, instead, it is supercharged
i was there when they tested this siren it was so cool! and loud good job man!
oh man, that echo is eerie!
So loud and cool

O this Sound is nice and Beautiful
I remember living in Bavaria. They tested the local severe storm warning every other first Saturday
Never heard of a special storm warning siren here in germany in my whole life.. only a normal fire call civil efens and abc-alert.And all clear.. i dont know any special weather signal.
Its only a test of all sirens that are still activ and connected to the dispatch center of the districts here what you meant.
The echo scares!!!
Interesting how all the siren stuff is underground
I couldn't imagine what the installation was like
At first it looks giant but when you see the car next to it..
National geographic be like: here we see a giant qtip from the qtip family wailing for a mate it almost sound like it crying
Intresting to see how the other side handled it
THAT THING LOOKS LIKE A ROCKET
Well i remembered that this exact siren was going off with the church bell
Very shiny
So epic
Thats Chrysler air raid sirens best friend
it sounds sick
Maybe not fully charged with 160 psi or 11 bars
Now we’re just giving siren head ideas 🤣
WHAT
YOU KNOW EOW-612
Everyone can actually hear the ambience coming from the HLS F71
Its A Pinsch Bamag Anlage 2
Aka the high mounted 4 horned and over sped Model 120 with an enclosure and an actual air compressor instead of a paxton blower
It sounds like a car on high rpms xDDD
Just imagine the maintenance guy just climbing it up to fix it, and then it starts sounding, lol R.I.P Maintenance guy, all jokes aside.
It sounds scary for me😬
Sounds like the chopper is messed up
What a strange -sounding siren!
That sounds like a baby elephant tooting his trunk
*This siren has a thermostat*
creepy
That's just scary with all the other sirens in the background.
No it’s not the echo it’s an E53 or E57
@@toastboi5106 it's echo AND e57
It really sounds depressed
Little girl when she doesn’t get her way
How does it work?
Ist ja nett, dein Übersetzung-Service, aber hast du noch nie von _Bavaria_ gehört? :-P
Klasse Aufnahme!
Incredible echo and reverb after the valve closes. I hear a siren in the background winding down after the echo is gone, is that an E-57?
yes, the E57 runs at same time like the pneumatic siren. but E57 has a longer audible spinning rotor. ;-)
+e57michel Ok cool.
You can also hear the chopper in the pneumatic siren wind down, but it has a shorter wind down than the E-57
The reverb makes it sound dcary

Anyone mistake this for a skinny water tower
So how do these kinds of sirens work?
Dose it use air pressure to spin the rotor in place of an electric motor?
Or is it just an over sized air whistle?
It has compressed air tanks that pump air into a 4 port chopper that is spun by a small 24 volt AC(?) motor whenever a valve opens to release the air. The stator is very similar to a Model 120. It has a diffuser, and 4 holes where the horns go
cool! an appendix 1 or 2!
The old 2-stroke diesel doesn't work anymore?
unfortunately NO. but i think this original diesel engine could be repair. currently the compressed air is generated by an electric compressor for the siren. but the cable is approx. 350 m long, in order to be able to supply the siren with necessary compressed air !! the location of the compressor is in the firehouse.
How does a pneumatic siren work?
Just put a Cummins diesel
Joshua Ferguson no one was talking abt Detroit diesel
@@joshuaryanferguson3702 they dont use Detroit diesel.. they use European diesel.
it looks like a giant SD-10
was the motor a v6 or v8 Deutz? doesnt look big enough to be a full size freight truck motor
Chrysler engine siren terrifying.
little kids when they cry:
the siren sound like she is crying and not happy
Wait, this required an entire underground bunker to house the components? pretty cool! must be pretty huge
Creeperboy the ‘bunker’ under the siren is quite small. The compressor is in the fire department thingy somewhere else
Why does it suddenly cut off every now and then?
sounds like revlimiter
It sounds like a motorcycle doing too many donuts
These sirens have a reach of the sound of 13km around the siren, then with almost 60 db !
If you think Bavaria alone have had 270 of them all together they covered alone almost 90% o the country.
Bavaria have 70 550 sqkm.
That's not quite true, Bavaria was never evenly covered with them, they mostly existed in clusters in certain areas.
That's a odd siren. Is it still siren with a internal chopper or does it use something else?
Its powered by an air compressor and an industrial made air horn
Close, it uses the equivalent of a chopper without an actual impeller (I think it's a disc with holes that spins over a stator disc) while the pneumatic system forces air through which is what creates the sound which is why it mutes itself while winding down.
Think of it like a Thunderbolt or Hurricane with a chopper that can't impel the air through it.
@@racer927 it is a horizontal chopper very similar to the one on a Model 120. Someone from Germany owns an HLS which is basically this siren but no enclosure
I’m acrophobic, I’d hate to climb that ladder....
*gowls stops turns back on*
a baby siren head crying
its got the hiccups
I think the siren is crying baby
It's like it can't quite finish what it's saying.
Why are they so big?
imagine russian or american air raiders hearing this while flying over ''WHERES THE BLOODY CHILD ITS SO LOUD!!!""
?????? Thats british slang
It sounds like a cow and a baby even a wolf
So is it a Giant whistle?
It's trying
Sounds like a weak ass ghost trying to be scary but failing
Where’s the chopper?
Is this similar to how a federal signal thunderbolt works?
Liam Ringer yes, both use blower assisted choppers
I wouldn't say assisted with this siren, as this completely requires a compressor otherwise it is pretty much silent. The rotor lacks vanes which means it doesn't push much air out of the chopper at all so it requires air flow from somewhere else to make the noise. The thunderbolt's chopper has vanes however and can be heard without the blower.
You are all wrong the compressor fills up a big air tank and a horn thats made to sound like a siren its not the same the thunder bolt uses a centrifugal force blower and a 3 1\2 motor is used for the blower but a 2 1\2 motor is for the chopper
Creeperboy and friends German Thunderbolt!
Close. It is more like a Model 120 than a thunderbolt, as it has a very similar chopper and stator assembly. Only it doesn’t use a centrifugal blower like the Model 120. It uses compressed air tanks with a valve that opens when the chopper spins up, and gets to a certain point in the wind down
Its sound like it’s having dampers
Why it sound like that
Looks like a water tower
