Scarlet- W you can by for $1800 now and its wayyyyyyyy better then Komodo! Scarlet W is a no brainer! Just traded my Helium with 5k cash for Monstro, now is the time to get it!
I would not say the scarlet W is wayyy better than Komodo. I would say they are on the same playing field for different use cases. Komodo has a global shutter, that’s a HUGE deal. Komodo has 12g SDI, that’s a big deal for some people. Scarlet W has 4K 120fps that’s a big deal for some people.
Thanks for the amazing video, I currently use the Sony fs5 mk2 In 2024, and I’m debating of buying an older red like the scarlet W, since they’re only a couple years older than my camera, and since all the prices of the used red in the accessories have gone way down, I could actually afford a red camera for fairly cheap
Does the Dscm2 work for a live environment to a 4k transmitter, to send 4K signal back to a video switcher? Or does the Dscm2 not have a 12g sdi out to do that?
@@DrakeKelch@DrakeKelch Hi, I finally found a used Gemini 5k with 482 hours. I have a question: What is the maximum number of hours RED cameras have in their life cycle? Does anyone see a RED Camera die at what Runtime?
@@DrakeKelch Thank You so much. This really helps me to boost my confidence and soon i ill go with Monstro 8K, as that is the best sensor i believe. but for now lets see how Gemini ill work. I m coming from Panasonic so this is my first Red Experience
As a magic lantern user on pro jobs i can say red dsmc 1/2 and sigma fp are the only true raw cameras aside from the more expensive sony/arri offerings. So definetly worth it
@@DrakeKelchgood deal doesn't mean good investment.. investment = expecting an ROI.. fact is REDs lose value faster than any other brand, they are known for issues, the proprietary accessories are expensive and only going to get pricier as the supply disappears from end of life. And they are not rentable. Unless you are renting as an owner op, but in that you won't get what you are hoping for. I wouldn't touch a red again with a 10ft pole and I've owned 3 (red one in 2007, red epic x as soon as that came out. Then a red scarlet W.. left the red ecosystem in 2019.
@@dp_zeeI guess I’ve had a different experience. I’ve owned 8 Reds from Ravens to new Komodo’s and haven’t had one fail on me yet. And the new DSMC3 hardly have any proprietary parts anymore, which makes it cheaper and better.

I’ve been trying to decide between a RED Scarlet X or RED Raven 4.7 both are at I price range I can live with
Hey did you decide which one to get ? I am looking at the same ones ..

Raven is good. I have one
I’ve had 3. Great camera.

Funny I was just prepping my whole kit for sale!
What are you upgrading to?
@@DrakeKelch already have 2 Komodo’s, so just additional gear. May consider trading one of the Komodo’s out as well and getting a K-X.

DSMC2 does not output 4K only 1080p.
What are your favorite camera/ lens combos to go with in a 4K cinematic live setting?
Why did you exclude talking about the Gemini?
Gemini is actually one of the most expensive used DSMC2 I’ve found.

@nexttvc I have reds with over 1000 hours now with no sign of slowing down. I also know people who have dsmc2 with over 5000 hours and still use them.

Depends on the market you work in.
I personally will never buy a RED again, well I guess I should wait to see what comes of the Nikon ownership.
The answer is no.
Not really. You can pickup a full helium kit for $5k right now. Thats a hella good deal
