George foreman was not 50 something he was 43 wow just because somebody over 35/25 whatever it is that doesn’t mean they come up with the worst case scenario not that there’s anything wrong with 50 some but just because somebody hasn’t been around for a long time or has been around for a long time they just want to make things seem I don’t know
It’s just like when Hogan came back in 1993 against yokozuna people already assume that he was 45/50 years old the guy was 39 going on 40 birthday is August they assumed he was super elderly and he was in WCW that was just fucked and 40 that’s it
When Hogan came back in the 2000s he was like 48/49 going on 50 when he thought Shwan Michaels he was finally in his 50s I believe 52 then when he thought Randy Orton he was 53
First of all you are wrong about George Forman's age cause he was 45 when he won the title. For someone who seems to love knit picking on the stupid shit makes you look like an arrogant ass. GV is talking about stuff that took place 30 to 40 plus years ago and here you are insulting a legend. I'm impress how he can remember everything that he's done and in detail at his age. So should you.
I could listen to Greg talk for hours. He's one of those people whom you never hear anyone speak of negatively. He has a solid reputation as both a wrestler and as a human being.
I completely agree. Even with controversial wrestlers like Ultimate Warrior, he always talks about something positive and focuses on that, instead of their faults.
Greg is just awesome to listen to, he doesn't spin any tall tales, he just tells it like it was, you can tell he is tough and did his job in a professional manner
Greg is a true legend who really contributes to the history of wrestling with his very detailed recollections of things that happened that we may never have known about.
I remember Mr. Valentine as being one of the three greatest villains (in my view) during the Backlund/ Hogan years with the other two being Piper and Murraco. I have enjoyed these interviews. Thank you for sharing them. Mr. valentine comes across as a man of deep thought and humility. I stopped watching wrestling on TV a long time ago , but Loved these interviews. And thank you, Mr. valentine.
I saw him and met him as a kid many times at tapings for championship wrestling wwf Hamburg pa. 1981-83 maybe 84 too but great time to be young . I was about 12.
Matter of fact he mentions pat patterson…I was there the night King Kong mosca hit Patterson over the head during the interview. I was standing right there maybe 10-15 feet way. Lol.
Maybe it is because the heels have to act like a major jerk in character and in real life they can be nice, and the faces think people actually like them. Idk just a thought.
The fued with Piper was so brutal and so legendary that it marked the first time during the McMahon Jr. Era that Vince allowed the competition (NWA) to be acknowledged on his TV. There's an episode of Piper's Pit with Lou Albano and Greg Valentine that it shows Piper and Valentine burying the hatchet. It's a credit to both The Hammer and The Hot Rod for being so believable that it had to be acknowledged on Vince's TV. That was unprecedented at the time.
As a little kid, I didn't appreciate Greg so much. He seemed kinda too old and out of shape for the time in the WWE days; but I realize now it was only because anyone over the age of like 25 seemed like an old man when you're a 9 year old kid. All his interviews are just the absolute best, and found a completely new respect for Greg, even though my dad always referred to him as Greg "the hammered" Valentine.
I was at a local event in New York a few years ago and saw him wrestle. He put every thing he had into that match. Any young wrestler that was on that card would have learned a lot from watching him that night.
Loved watching him wrestle and glad to see he is such a nice guy. A living legend. These comments are gold, I did not see a single negative word about The Hammer. Glad to see he is doing well and getting appreciated for working his a$$ off all these years.
We appreciate this platform for giving Mr. Hammer a voice, to tell these marvelous stories. Thank you Mr. Valentine for sharing your experience in business.
This is the kind of shoot interviews I love. Unlike some other guys, Hammer doesn’t have to make up lies and tell other people’s stories as his own. He’s a real man. He understands his role he seems to like the fans, and he isn’t bitter. He seems real chill and above all HONEST. That’s about as good as it gets to me.
I know he was a "heel", but he was one of the toughest wrestlers. His matches were always long and he hung in there the whole time. Gorilla Monsoon said it best one time calling a match The Hammer was in " The longer the match goes the tougher The Hammer get's". So true.
The Hammer stuff are by far my favourite interviews. His matches are among my favourite too; never saw a dud. Thanks very much for this stuff, The Hammer and Title Match Wrestling! Awesome.
I saw Greg in the Pittsburgh airport once. He was sitting alone and it took me a while to figure out who he was. We were on the same plane together. I wanted to go say hello and thank him for the great matches I enjoyed in my youth, but I figured he probably was sick of being approached by people so I left him alone. Now I wish I had said thanks. So, “Thanks, Greg!” You were one of the guys I loved watching!”
That's funny cause I met Greg Valentine at the Pittsburgh airport back when I was a teenager. His wife or girlfriend at the time seen me looking at him and smiled for me to come over. So I got to talk with him a while, really great guy.
I remember watching Mr. Valentine wrestle as a kid. He did make his matches look real. I'm old enough to remember wrestling before the industry was exposed. Sadly even then not everyone had the work ethic The Hammer possessed.
As I kid I was obsessed with wrestling- this interview series I truly value. Greg is without a doubt one of the most professional athletes I have ever seen interviewed, not a negative word spoken of anyone, ever. I was always a fan of Greg as a wrestler, I am now a fan of him as a man. A true gentleman. Hey, any chance of having his lovely wife on with him to recount her take on his road stories and how many bumps and bruises she nursed for him over the years. Beautiful couple.
Thank you, Greg for doing these interviews. You were always one of my favorites and I was glad to get to see you a whole bunch of times back when WWF was great.
Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. Definition of a legend. I remember seeing him wrestle on 2-3 separate occasions back in the late 80s and early 90s at the Savannah Civic Center. ☆☆☆☆
He is a legend. He wasnt as big as some others but maybe that's why he is still among us and can tell sories. Unfortunatelly most of the "monster/top size" type wrestlers passed away like Andre, Earthquake, Jokozuna, Bigelow, Warrior, Big Boss Man, Hercules and so on...
I agree with you a 100% but he was bigger then you'd think if me or you stood by the hammer back in the day he was a big intimidating man thick tuff as nails.
I'm 51 years old and actually grew up on LUCHA LIBRE which was a Spanish wrestling thing that was on channel 52 in Los Angeles. I'm not even Hispanic. And, it was awesome! One of my all time favorites was Mil Mascaras. Anyways, I can't remember exactly what channel I saw people like Ric Flair and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. These guys were the O.G's. I always have liked and respected Mr. Valentine. And, now, these UA-cam videos have actually multiplied my respect for him.... He just seem a really down to earth kind of guy and he knows how to tell a great story....... I'm loving this!
Man, I was a WWF kid growing up in NY who always heard my classmates talk about Ronnie Garvin's 'Hands of Stone.' When he and 'The Hammer' started their feud, I finally got to see the grittier NWA-style of wrestling that had appealed to so many of my friends. I wish Vince had let them carry that feud for another 6 months, I never got tired of their matches! I always felt we were cheated out of a cage match finale between those guys that would've rivaled anything that came before it. Love you Hammer, you seem like an awesome guy!
The best shoot interviews to listen to, to get a feel on who Vince McMahon was and is, are the guys that aren't bitter, or have overinflated egos of themselves. Valentine and Hillbilly Jim are absolutely my favorite shoot guys because they are so classy. And you can tell they are telling it like it is.
Mr. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine is still #1 Tough Guy in professional wrestling along with his dad "JOHNNY" (RIP) in my book! Thank you so much (Title Match Wrestling) for these one to one personal interview segments especially with "The Hammer" which I find extremely fascinating!! For the record; I wish Mr. PEDRO MORALES (who was the very first Triple Crown Champion including United States champion in WWWF/WWF history) was still with us (RIP) cause I'm very sure Mr. Politeness, Mr. Etiquette would have a lot to say in his interview for sure!!!
Wasnt a big fan of him as a child, but as I grew older, I liked the Hammer more and more and lots of respect to him for all he did for the business. A legend.
The mark of an insecure person is a tendency to speak negatively about colleagues . A confident person will find something positive to say about his peers. He doesn't need to drag someone's reputation down so he appears better by comparison
Greg Valentine used to annoy me when he wrestled and when he made one off appearances but the insight he's providing and the fact that he turned out healthy makes me respect him so much more now, and appreciate someone like him who kept himself out of trouble.
Okay, after watchig and enjoying all these clips, that last part really nearly made be choke up. What a down to earth, humble guy. Every other wrestler would've plugged his book or other merch, "come see me at this and that convention next month"... he's just saying "If you like, check out my past matches. I hope you enjoy them. I did". This is one of the very rare cases where the saying "they don't make 'e like that anymore" seems adequate. Hope he gets to enjoy many more, healthy & happy years.
I really enjoy listening to The Hammer tell these stories with his humble and straightforward style. Quite a difference from the heel character he portrayed so well. Seems like a guy I'd like to sit down and have a couple beers with.
Title Match Wrestling - Thanks for these great shoots! The Hammer seems like real cool guy to sit down and have a cigar, drink with, and chat about the business.
I loved watching his work back in the 80s to me he was a no nonsense type guy and very tough. My favorite thing watching him was his elbow drops and his figure 4 leg lock. I use to do the elbow drop to my school buddies when we would wrestle around school. I took 11 years of collegiate wrestling and 5 years of freestyle. Loved it and Greg Valentine was one of my major influences.
When you see Vince Jr. in tears at the end of the Andre the Giant doc, that's when you know what a special guy the big man was. The guy could reduce a hard-nosed businessman to tears.
Class act...met the Hammer on Vancouver isl. Mid 90s..indy show ...built like a tank...one solid muscle...great worker...good stuff!!! Thanks for uploads
This is good stuff. The whole thing when Valentine learned to apply the figure 4 leg lock was just at the time when, as a child, I started to become a fan of wrestling. During that time i went to a show on Long Island where the main event had Ivan Putski vs Ivan Koloff that ended in either a double DQ or double count out. Gorilla was also on the card, and soon thereafter the WWWF would be on at Midnight Saturday nights. Great days because as a fan, those interviews were incredible. The little gimmicks were extensions of the personalities of the wrestlers and matches were filled with drama and intrigue, unlock the garbage today. That was when wrestling was really good.
OMG! I grew up a wrestling fanatic, but I never really liked Valentine because he was a “bad guy” character. He beat up too many of my favorites like Strongbow and others, he was a bad ass. But I tell you what, after watching hours of his interviews I am now HUGE Valentine fan! I could listen to this guy all day long! Greg is truly a Class Act!
Greg seems like a great guy to share stories with. He was a smart wrestler who didn’t wreck his body, doing extreme style stuff. He’s still looking good these days and he has his wits about him. I love listening to him talking about his career.
We love you Greg I’ve been following you since I was a little boy in the 80s. Love all your work thank you for everything you have contributed to the business.
One of the most memorable memories of Greg Valentine was his feud with Dino Bravo in the AWA in 1981. Good matches, the two became buddies I think. This was because I was a fan of Dino when he wrestled in the WWF back in 1978 with Dominic Dinucci. Those two were tag team champions after they defeated Mr. Fuji & Toru Tanaka, I seen that match, wow what a battle. After that I liked the way Dino Bravo wrestled, very exciting wrestler; his flying drop kick was amazing! He got way up there and delivered a blast of a drop kick and with his great physical strength, benching 500 lbs. Great memories!
Greg Valentine sounds nothing like I expected him to sound. He sounds like a great guy. These wrestling interviews are always interesting. It seems like you could make dozens of movies with all the stories these guys have.
The Hammer Got It. I really thought for the past 10+ years he was living like the movie The Wrestler in a Van. The Hammer is so badass so Glad to see that!!!
FYI Vince McMahon Sr. died from pancreatic cancer. He was onlu 69. In contrast, Vince McMahon Junior's mom died this year at a staggering102 years old.

The Hammer.

I respect this man so much. He is the real deal

When I was little, I swore he had destroyed Tito Santana’s career. I really believed this guy was a bully and a monster.

Remember watching Greg the hammer Valentin as a boy & love watching these interviews, seems like a hell of a good guy.
Greg Valentine sounds nothing like I expected him to sound. He sounds like a great guy. These wrestling interviews are always interesting. It seems like you could make dozens of movies with all the stories these guys have.
A real legend for sure thanx Greg for everything
The Hammer Got It. I really thought for the past 10+ years he was living like the movie The Wrestler in a Van. The Hammer is so badass so Glad to see that!!!
