Great video! We have been in Penang for the past 6 months and are living comfortably on about US$1400 (this includes everything: health insurance, rent for 3 bedroom apartment, eating at a mid-range restaurant once or twice a week, some donations, etc.). The MM2H program has been suspended temporarily, and we are waiting to hear when it will start up again and what the new requirements will be. You make really good points in the Pro and Con section of the video.

    • @roninblue5885

Hopefully, the new requirements will be friendlier.

What are your suggestions for health insurance for men over 60, and what is the average monthly premiums? Eventually I want to retire to multiple S.E. Asian countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia) for a 4 months each / year, and am wondering what are health insurance options for each country, or health insurance options that can move to each country with me?

I have to correct you on the food side of PG. Tandoori Chicken and Nan Bread are not staple of Penang dishes. Char Koay Teow (fried flat rice noodle), Hokkien Mee (Prawn broth noodle), Nasi Kandar (Indian Muslim curry rice), Asam Laksa, Oh Chean (fried Oyster Omelet), Curry Mee (Curry Noodle) and Nyonya dishes. Since you recognised that PG is food haven, those are our staples.

I will never forget driving a Parodua Kancil that belonged to my Chinese Malaysian girlfriend from Ipoh to Kuala Lumper then to Penang. I am a tall person, and the Kancil was never made for my size. It was so underpowered that when going up a hill you had to turn off the air con or it would stall. Unbelievably we made the trip.

Brilliant vid Ronin . I am thinking very seriously about moving to Malaysia. I’m a 59 year old British male and think the location is perfect for me , I like the history of the whole straits of Malacca area being British , I need to investigate the visa system . I have some money to keep me going for living expenses for ten years or so , renting a small apartment etc .

Good video, though I wish you had covered the weather in greater detail. All the other cons could be easily ignored and pale in comparison to the weather, which appears to be way outside the norms of what most ex-pats are used to, in terms of the amount of rain, the humidity, and the temperature.

Did you know that langkawi is a duty free island? Former PM is from langkawi/Kedah, so many developments were done there. I prefer the world NOT to know about it🤫, mass tourism will destroy any place on this earth. There is a private island on the east coast owned by the sultan, visitors are limited to reservations only. I totally understand that, especially rude tourists from a certain country (we know who they are)

    WHY PENANG ❓️❓️
DONT CHOOSE A PLACE JUST BECAUSE IT IS CHEAP ❗️❗️❗️
MANY PEOPLE DID THAT BUT LATER REALISED AFTER LIVING THERE....IS NOT SO SAFE AS IN SINGAPORE OR TOKYO OR SEOUL OR EVEN TAIWAN ❗️❗️❗️
NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU INVEST IN A FOREIGN LAND.......PLACE SAFETY AS YOUR VERY TOP PRIORITY ❗️❗️❗️
NOT CHEAP FOOD, CHEAP CONDO, CHEAP CAR BECAUSE PAYING CHEAP DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOUR VERY OWN SAFETY AND THE CERTAINTY TO GET MUGGED , ROBBED AND BEEN STAB AT........ ARE VERY REAL HIGH RISKS ❗️❗️❗️❗️
GO LIVE IN A COUNTRY THAT OFFER YOU REAL SAFETY WITH VERY LOW CRIME RATE ❗️❗️❗️❗️
EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE TO PAY A LITTLE MORE FOR THAT QUALIITY OF LIFE
WELL DESERVED FOR YOU......KNOWING YOUR HUMAN LIFE IS SHORT ❗️❗️❗️❗️
    MAKE THAT WISE DECISION ❗️❗️❗️❗️
