HOW TO MAKE LANCASHIRE BUTTER PIE (Catholic Pie)
In todays recipe video Kelly shows you haw to make a fabulous dish that is well known across Lancashire.
This Lancashire Butter Pie, is a Potato, Onions and of course Butter pie with probably the best pastry we have ever made.
LANCASHIRE BUTTER PIE
INGREDIENTS:
PASTRY
* 1 tsp fine salt
* 350g plain flour
* 75g unsalted butter, cubed and chilled
* 75g lard, cubed and chilled then cut into pieces
FILLING
* 3 large potatoes, peeled and cut into 1cm thick slices
* 120g unsalted butter
* 2 large onions, cut into slices
* 1 egg, beaten, to glaze

This is a classic regional recipe here and you can purchase smaller individual pies all over the Lancashire area. It’s a great dish and well worth trying x thank you for watching and for commenting.

Just as you mentioned the variety of potato I was writing "You didn't mention the variety of..." This is a real peeve of mine esp when you're describing a recipe to someone who may be unsure of what potato to use. I'm so glad you did this because most cooks/chefs never say a word. I remember having an argument with GR and JO, you can work out those chef's names, about this very subject. Anyway great job and this is a fantastic pie. I sometime slip some fresh prawns into it just for fun 🙂

Ooo now that’s an interesting idea. So we may have to try that prawn combination ourselves. I will say that this pastry recipe is exceptionally good. Going to redo it as a separate video we think and also test it on some pasties too.

OMG are you from the UP of Michigan? My dad was from Iron River and l used to have to make pasties for him. In 2015 l went up there for the first time and had one from there, was so good. Will have to try this. Love onions and anything
