    Beautiful Cara! As a single malt scotch lover (esp peated scotch!!) I adore this delicious cocktail! Peated whisky works in such a fabulous way! Spectacular! Love Drambuie!! Amazing video/info as always!! I also use single malts with a taste of heather but I like a scotch that will cut the sweetness of the Drambuie! I prefer less sweet cocktails! I so like 60ml of scotch! I love to see different ways of crafting a beautiful cocktail! You rock! Often I am sipping a delicious single malt scotch neat - such a mindblowingly spectacular spirit!! I'd love to try this Australian whisky Cara! Sounds so good! Cheers! 🙂

      I see you and @TheSpiritoftheCocktail comment on other channels I follow like Steve The Bartender and How To Drink. You always have interesting things to say.
      I’m not a fan of whiskey, although I can tolerate Bourbon in a cocktail (Boulevardier, Manhattan), but I’ll always give Cara’s videos a like regardless of whether I like the ingredients in a cocktail or not, because they’re really good.

    Would Monkey Shoulder be too light for this? The other two bottles of malt whiskey I have are Ardbeg Uigeadail and Del Bac Dorado, and I don't see myself mixing either of them regularly.
    Of course, I don't have any Drambuie at all. Let's see if I can rearrange my liqueur shelf to make some room.

      Monkey Shoulder is the most popular choice out there for Rusty Nails, its perfect in this cocktail

    • @BehindtheBar
      @BehindtheBar  5 місяців тому

      Yes, monkey shoulder is ideal! It’s a blended malt, so has the same same richness and texture of a single malt (as opposed to a blend which contains grain whisky as well so is lighter), but has been blended for a more even-keeled flavour profile than something like your Ardbeg (which is also delicious but probably would be a bit punchy in this!).

    I'll look for the double malt whiskey. Sounds delicious and bet it will make a good Rusty Nail.

    I love a Rusty Nail. A little light on the Drambuie, a little heavy on the scotch, as I like mine a little boozier. Also, this is one I just mix right in the glass I drink it out of. Easy peasy.

    Nice work Cara ; orange bitters , never thought of that ! Being a bit of an old sour so and so , I always prefer the traditional 50-50 combo.

    Hey I'm glad you made this video. Back on the Grasshopper video I had mentioned the Rusty Nail as one of the first two cocktails that I had ordered legally at my 21st b-day (yeah, that's a ridiculous drinking age) and that I didn't care for it. You suggested to make it more like an Old Fashioned; more whisky, the Drambuie as an accent. I've been pretty curious to try it but haven't gotten around to it. But now I have the actual recipe. Thanks!

      I knew there was a reason it was in my head, it was probably your comment haha!

    Wow! I want to try this with a Talisker. I found out that up here in my province in Canada they have Drambuie at the local liquor store. I can't believe I didn't hear about this when visiting Skye.

      It’s kind of seen as a bit old fashioned I suppose but it’s a great modifier - works well in lots of other cocktails as well, like you could use it as the sweetener in a whisky sour with no or little sugar syrup, adds an extra dimension 😋

    Does it make a difference adding more ice than the level of you alcohol mixture? Why not just add ice to the top of the liquid level? Love the huge block of ice by the way.

    • @BehindtheBar
      @BehindtheBar  5 місяців тому +1

      The more ice there is, the slower it melts as it insulates yourself so if using less just be aware that it will dilute the drink faster. Using more just makes sure it is properly chilled before it dilutes too much 😊

    I usually make a Rusty nail
    And then i go for a Loch Lomond heavily peated single malt whiskey
    2 ounces of whisky and 1 ounce of drambuie in a rocks glass with a big icecube.
    I aint scottish although i own a bit of land in Scottland.

    I like to make a rye old fashioned and sub Drambuie for the sugar cube or simple syrup. I call it an "Auld Lang Syne." Feel free to steal the name. I like to think Robbie Burns would be pleased.

    • @BehindtheBar

      I love doing old fashioneds with different sweeteners - just regular honey is great as well but Drambuie brings both sweetness and some herbal notes so it’s a great shout!

    I like the idea of taking a classic cocktail and dialing down the sugar a wee bit so that it's not too sweet. Also, good editing!

    Talisker 10 and Macleans Nose work well in this, making for a nice upgrade over budget blends without getting silly price wise. Ardbeg is great if you want more smoke, but has gotten a little too expensive for mixing; I'm thinking Big Peat might be a good smokey alternative. UK pricing for context: everything but the Ardbeg is under £35 with offers

    • @BehindtheBar
      @BehindtheBar  5 місяців тому +1

      I only just tried Macleans Nose, great drop with just a hint of peat which would work really well here. I do love Adelphi! Berry Bros and Rudd do a line of blended whiskies as well which aren’t too expensive and they have e.g. a sherried one, a Speyside one, and a peated one so they work really nicely to match to different flavour profiles in cocktails.
