'Patience, young Grasshopper' - I show you how to make a tasty GRASSHOPPER cocktail and a fun twist!

- Who doesn’t love mint choc chip ice cream? And if it’s boozy, even better!
Original Grasshopper:
Ingredients:
30ml (1oz) creme de menthe
30ml (1oz) creme de cacao
45ml (1 ½ oz) cream
Glass: coupe
Garnish: grated nutmeg
Method:
Add all of your ingredients to your shaker tin, add ice and shake well. Double strain into a coupe glass and grate nutmeg over the top.
Jiminy Fizz (credit: Ryan Casley):
Ingredients:
30ml (1oz) manzanilla sherry
20ml (⅔ oz) creme de cacao
20ml (⅔ oz) creme de menthe
15ml (½ oz) lemon
15ml (½ oz) egg whites
1 drop orange blossom water
Top soda
Glass: large flute glass or coupe
Garnish: grated mint chocolate and a mint leaf
Method:
Add all of your ingredients except the soda to your shaker tins and double shake - once without ice and once with. Strain into your glass and top with soda. Grate chocolate over the top and enjoy!

The old grasshopper from 1919 kind of reminds me about "After eight" chocolate.
A classic chocolate.
Sherry, Cacao, Menthe, Lemon, Egg, Soda, and Orange Blossom. Never in my life would I think of that combination😂 But then again, that is why you guys are the experts and I am the humble customer enjoying the experience😉

My favourite take on the Grasshopper is the Gustings' Grasshopper. Cognac is added to the rest of the ingredients. Richer, but a little less sweet, with the woodiness and fruitiness of the Cognac actually drying things out a little.

Awesome! I'd suggest starting with all equal parts. That works nicely for me, personally, but of course, up the Cognac if you want even more of that flavour. I also find that the Cognac is a great (but expensive) way to smooth out a mediocre green (the radioactive, almost Midori like) Crèmes des Menthes.
A great video, Cara. So many Grasshopper variations... I cannot help sharing that the late musician J. J. Cale wrote his own version in the inner sleeve of his 1982 Grasshopper record. The recipe is: 35 cc Pisang Ambon, 20 cc brandy, 70 cc dry white wine, served with crushed ice. According to him, "its soft, it's sweet, and it hits you like a hammer". I've never tried it nor hadn't found this recipe anywhere else.

I sometimes make the standard Grasshopper with a big scoop of ice cream , (no cream or ice )it seems to come out alright , just wondering what you think of that ?

I think so, it’s definitely part of pop culture parlance here as well although I’ve never actually seen it!
