Enjoyed your video. I’m in northwest Florida. For the past ten years or so, I’ve tried to plant my potatoes as close to Martin Luther King day as possible. Prior to that February 14th was always the day my parents planted potatoes. But I’ve found that earlier is better. Even in the years we’ve had late freezes, it only bites the plants off at the ground, and they come right back. I’m a firm believer in the mid January planting in my area.
I am growing a variety of potatoes in San Antonio. They had a bit of a rough start but are doing fine now. I just hilled them up and added a bit of cow manure. I'm growing them in grow bags. Thanks for the enjoyable video.
Using your tractor to did the trench would be a bit faster and easier. I use my John Deere garden tractor to dig the trench, cover the seed potato, and do the hilling. When the crop is ready for harvest, use the garden tractor again to dig the spuds. Enjoy getting seat time on the tractor, plus am well over 80 years old. Have planted spuds this way for over 40 years. Enjoyed your video.
@@jackgraham3393 yes that was the way I was raised my granddad done the same thing I don’t have the attachments for my tractor. Thanks for sharing and watching.
Had to watch your video again. Just love your sandy soil, I have clayish and its a pain. Planted mine 2 weeks ago finally. Will you make a update video on your potatoes?
Hello from Northwestern Saskatchewan Canada. Here are the best potatoes considered are the red Viking the purple Viking which are just really a red Viking with a different colour the Kennebec and of course the netted gym. Personally I find the Kennebec are very good for French frying they're not as starchy as the netted and the red Viking are very very good cooking potatoes
Hello from Florida. Really nice piece of property you have there. Do you farm for a living or just your home stead? Your earth looks like you have a lot of clay. What area of the country do you live in? Just subscribed. Thanks for the video.
I hoped to ask you a question and if you have a chance let me know? I planted a few red potatoes in growing stage, pretty green stem right off the side, took the stem off, kept the potatoes for dinner lol, I didn't hill, the stems are looking good, I'd covered a shorter on with dirt as a test for the next day after watering all and it peaked through the dirt, looking lovely....do I hill, or just water and let the red potatoes happen??
Hello from Denmark. I have red potatoes in my garden. The variety is called Alouette. They are mold resistant. The Danes don't want red potatoes. We have several mold-resistant potatoes in Denmark. I have one that looks like the King Edward potato but it is called Carolus and is also mold resistant. Spraying is not necessary
We grow potatoes in Jos, Plateau state Nigeria because the weather there is cold. At the moment, I live in Abuja the capital of Nigeria and I would love to grow it in here. The temprature of Abuja is humid. Can potatoes thrive?
It was great watching you plant the potatoes. I have always heard to make sure to eyes up. Then I see the small planter that drops the potatoes in the row. The eyes cannot all up. How do you dig your potatoes? Looks good to me!
It is according how dry your ground is , mine has been rained on once and the are just now up and i will water them once a week unless it rains on them , because all i have planted at this time is potatoes i water them with a water hose ad spray nozzle , once i get more vegetables planted i will use a sprinkler
I sliced the skin off red oot to make french fries, then planted the skins with an ey on it in to the ground. They are all growing great

Two questions: where do you buy such a big bag of seed potatoes, and some of those potatoes had gray spots in them; are they ok to plant like that?

Are you going to show your harvest? 😊
Love those little red taters! They practically grow themselves! Is there a better all around potato?
👌

I would probably put a little dirt to them as the plant grows
Gotta look at your channel and see if we get to see the end results😊
I got sick last year i am making a new video for this year and i will show the harvest thanks

Can you tell me… what is a seed potato? And where did you buy them
It is a potato- you can get them in very small quantities at some Walmart stores , I got mine at the local feed store Ace Hardware
Where are you at to be planting this early?
South Georgia
@@50acrehomestead wow, I'm in central Louisiana. Too wet and cold. Last year had heavy frost for 4 days the 1st week of March.
@@KrazyKajun602 we have late frost here sometimes , if the water sprinkles don’t save the potato plants they will come back
No one still will tell me how long it should take a seed potato to come up in Alabama
Around 10 days
Where are you located?
Southeast Georgia
Nice! That's gonna be a lot of taters!

Yeah, the background music is kinda annoying
I don't like Irish potatoes, I love Swedish potatoes.
