I’ve dug potatoes before but never watched them being planted. I was amazed at the way you threw those cuts at the ground and they landed cut side down and just right every time. I think that’s skill!!!!

Being able to toss them in the furrow with the eyes up is an acquired skill. The first time you do it like that you have to walk back down the row and right about half of them. It still beats bending over to plant each individual slip. He is planting a patch too so you learn faster.
      Have a great day

Growing in El Salvador , and traveling from the city to my mother's town , I saw endless plowed fields , I envisioned one day I would have my own piece of land to plow . Moved to the US in 1981 , I've live in the country since day one , just love it . I bought 200 acres of land in Nicaragua , I will retire there , enjoy country living .

Thanks for the tip on the Epsom Salts, I just might incorporate that in mine this year. I saved back small potatoes from last year to try to do the same thing you are, grow my own seed potatoes. My favorite potato on Earth is Nicola and they are not available locally. I've always bought them online, but the price of them online is scary. Here in central OK I have found that the best time for me to plant is mid March. I planted them Feb 21 four years ago and had to cover 10 rows 75' long of potato plants by hand to keep the plants from freezing. Saved the plants but was not a fun job. Thanks again, excellent video...

I just discovered something weird. Many farmers, the ones who grow big agribusiness, Monsanto, do not put out gardens to feed themselves and family. They buy their food from the grocery store. I don't know if this is because it would contaminate their garden but am told that many do not know how to grow their own food anymore. If SHTF, American farmers would starve to death. Next time you're out driving somewhere and you see a big farm, look for their garden.

Nice video from Danny & Wanda. I live in Scotland and I'll shortly be planting 40 tubers in my small vegetable patch and probably a couple of dozen more in bags and pots. The variety is Charlotte. This variety was developed in Normandy, France back in 1981. We've grown them a few times and they're a lovely waxy kind of potato, very tasty, great all rounders, nice for salads, or along with anything else you like on your plate. If you can get them Stateside, it's worth giving them a try. They are so yummy!

    So your magnesium sulfate application rate is 1 Lb/100 SF = .01 lb/SF = 4.5 g/SF.
If your seed potatoes are planted 1 ft apart in your row, that means you can put an equal amount of mg sulfate for 100 seed potatoes (so 1 lb per 100 ft of planted row).
Personally, I'd scatter in above each seed potato after they are covered with soil, rather than scattering it in a line as you did. If you apply it around each seed potato, you'd apply 4.5 g/each seed potato (which is about 1/2 teaspoon of mg sulfate per seed potato).

I live in the south (AL), I get the cheap dollar store epson salt every other year and after tilling my garden, hand sling it, then till again. Done is this way for many, many years, even when I lived up north. I just can't find a decent sized potato that grows well here other than sweet potatoes. (at least like I was use to like up north)

    Hello Danny and Wanda.
Glad you've shared this. I have some potatoes planted already and notice some yellow leaves. Now I know what I need to do.
I had quite a few small potatoes saved to plant. Some shriveled up and looked aweful so only planted the ones that looked good.
I definitely will be attempting to save more this year again. There is so much humidity here and wonder if that was the culprit for some
    that seemed to go bad.
How do you store the potatoes you save for planting?
The more potatoes the better for food.
    Thanks so much for sharing.
    Blessings to you both.

Thank you Danny & Wanda! I have some potatoes left over from last year that looks about like yours. I've been wondering rather to use them or not. I pulled the growth off my a week ago trying to delay them a bet until the weather is a bit warmer.

If you do cut them, dip the cut area into hydrated lime and give them a couple days to get a dryer surface then plant.

I give mine a little sulfur powdering before planting. I just put them in a tub and shake them around to get a coating of the powder. It seems to keep the bugs from chewing them and creating a wound for bacteria to get in. I still get a little rot but not as bad. it's more of a repellent.

OkieRob With our sandy soil we dont usually have much trouble with rotting unless it rains a lot. No insect problems so far but times are changing. Thanks

That Mrs Wanda is a hard worker. Obviously much younger than the old boy.🤣
