Who’s back before the 2024 eclipse?
I'd be interested to see the traffic graph of all his videos on this topic. I've been waiting 7 years for this weekend.
Me
Let's gooo!!!!
🎉🎉🎉❤ I am in Bedford TX I hope to see shadow bend by its overcast and maybe rainy!! But I'm gonna watch it with my friend Matt.He has never seen a solar eclipse.I don't even think he's ever seen in the clips at all.I sent them this today.I'm so excited.Thank you so much.I love you videos. This is always one of my favorite ones.I tried to show it to a lot of people not everybody gets the nerdyness😂
@@amandastallcup6481I saw them!! I’m in north east Arkansas
I hope you guys really enjoy this! Please share it with anyone and everyone who might be remotely interested in the eclipse. It's really an event that will be SO much sweeter if you take the time to plan your viewing experience. This is basically the video I wish existed but couldn't find... so I made it. A big thanks to Dr. Gordon Telepun for spending so much time teaching me!
Shame I can't go there since I'm across a very large pond
Great video!
"the video I wish existed but couldn't find... so I made it" explains Smarter Every Day perfectly.
SmarterEveryDay I've been waiting on August 21st 2017 for YEARS now. I'll be in Elizabethtown, KY to view it. I can't wait. Destin, I'd love to help try to capture footage from different areas, etc. Where will you be watching from?
I feel the pain
I don't have to drive anywhere. The August eclipse passes right over my home town.
Update Just saw it about 2 hours a go. One of the coolest, weirdest things I've ever seen' Totally amazing.
Don't, this was future tense when I wrote it. It was way cool though.
Thank you for this video. Your enthusiasm for freaking shadow snakes set off a chain of events that led to me, my wife and kids, and most of my extended family (10 of us total) traveling to witness the total solar eclipse in SC. We even made t-shirts. It was totally awesome!
Wow I never realized there was so much to see in solar eclipses! Thanks as always Destin
and as always, thanks for watching.
Aaaaaand cut...
Sorry just had to made a game theory reference
*Film theory
*Total* Eclipse, TOTAL being the key word.
Imagine how sad it will be if it's cloudy.
NOOO SHHH stop
It happened in Denmark which means I basically missed a lifetime experience.
NOOOOO bro dont say that man
well great, now that someone said that, it's definitely going to happen now :'(
chemtrails
Just wanted to say thanks for this video! I live in the path of totality and was only mildly interested before watching your video. Your enthusiasm helped me become more excited. We watched your video once again while waiting for the eclipse then tried to watch for shadow bands. I just finished watching your follow up video where you are watching the eclipse. I too was too busy living it to take any pictures. I have 2 total! But it was such an amazing feeling, I will never forget it!
Destin, you are the man. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this video. I have been waiting for this eclipse since I was in first grade, and I am 42 years old. Your information about the eclipse and the app have just made this event more anticipated! Keep up the great work, and look forward to the next video hopefully with shadow snakes!
I remember the solar eclipse in the UK. The sky just went from grey to dark grey and back again.
lol so do i but i could see the moon touched the sun and went past
In this eclipse, it looked like complete nighttime. Even the parking-lot night lights came on automatically. The squirrels went into their trees, and the bugs stopped flying around. It was eerily quiet except for those of us shouting with glee because of it all, and the sunset effect right before darkness hit was amazing in the background. It was a purply pink kind of background low on the horizon. The darkened sky looked like a very dark smokey blue. And as the darkness was falling, it was weird because one's eyes just adjusted to it automatically. So really the only way to tell it was getting darker was by recording it and by how saturated in color everything became in midday, which doesn't normally happen until the "golden hour" every night before sunset--one of the best times during the day to take photos by the way. Also the amazing thing was seeing Mercury, at least we think it was Mercury, as a star next to the total eclipse of the sun. I actually have that recorded!
You’re funny.
Why not use drone aerial photography over a large flat area of light-colored ground? Bonus: chance to also get a 360 shot of the 360 sunrise. Bonus bonus: excuse to buy a nice drone. :-)
money is a thing
magerehenk He's got a Phantom camera. I'm sure a drone is no big deal
he has a buddy with an r c helicopter. he doesn't need a drone.
You better get a gofundme page going bro....
+ I like your thinking!
I can't tell you how excited I am for this eclipse. I just bought the eclipse timer app and MY HOUSE is in the path of totality! Thank you Destin for all you videos.
I can't wait to check out the app--I was surprised when I saw you were standing in our church's parking lot! I sent it to my brother (who works there) so that they make sure they are in the right place to watch the eclipse. Thanks for this cool video!
yes you should make a video about shadow bands... that wold be the best video ever...
Bassel Atta I don't think anybody could stop him from making a video about it :-)
Imagine a 4K slow motion video of the shadow bands.
A slow motion video wouldn't pick them up as well.
There are crescent shadows before totality. I saw them once during a partial eclipse, and they are bizarre.
reddit would love that!
I live in Hopkinsville, KY where the eclipse is supposed to have full effect. We are so excited for everyone coming down and we are as equally as excited for the eclipse.
Thanks Destin! I've known about this event since 1998 when I stumbled across a 30 year eclipse map on the internet. I live in the Nashville, TN area. I just installed Gordon's app and I'll have 2 min 30 sec of totality in my back yard. But I'll probably go to my sisters house in Gallatin (on the center line) for an extra 10 to 15 seconds. Never heard of shadow banding. Excited to take a white bed sheet outside for the event! Thanks for all you do. Love SmarterEveryDay!
Just returned from TN after my first solar eclipse. Wanted to thank you for this video that taught me about shadow snakes. We watched on the hill at a winery and my group was the only one with a big white sheet. We saw them! They were huge and amazing and we freaked out. I wanted to make sure to experience them fully so I didn't film or measure or anything but next time I will make sure. Thanks for this video, it made my eclipse watching that much more powerful and fantastic.
I think I'm the luckier people in the US- the dead center of the eclipse passes literally 200 feet from my house. I am totally stoked, I've already got a solar filter for my 8" orion reflector... :D
You have to try to film the shadow snakes.
I'd love to get into astrophotography, but I keep spending my yearly astronomy budget on other astronomy things... one day...
I'll try to get the snakes!
Patrick Ross I think the drive will be worth it- this is once in a lifetime stuff! (Let me tell you, I'd be driving to far away lands if it wasn't near me too!) Yeah, I think an 8 inch telescope is a bit of overkill especially when it comes to solar observing. I have it for deep sky stuff. But anyway, good luck to you!
How lucky, i'm thinking of travelling from Pakistan just to see it... Hope Trump lets me enter the US
I just want to thank you for your video. Because of your video, I actually watched the shadow bands, which was super cool btw, I was able to answer a lot of my friends interest, and also increase interest of those around me. Being a science teacher I tend to nerd out every once in a while. Thank you so much! Oh, and the app worked great. Well worth it!
I am so glad I watched this before the eclipse! We saw the shadow snakes!! The whole experience was the most amazing thing that has ever happened in my life. Thank you for making your videos! I love them so much and I learn so much.
THIS IS GREAT INFO!!!! Now I'm even more excited to see the eclipse. Downloading the app now and I can truly appreciate the time and effort put into it. Thanks for the app!
While watching this I remembered an Eclipse I saw years ago when I was younger in Zimbabwe. (The birds started chirping as if it was evening, haha, can confirm they were confused af). Anyways, I'm pretty sure that exact eclipse is the one shown at 9:49, pretty awesome.
Hey, I've seen a lunar eclipse. Never a solar.
Same. Can't wait for this one!!
RandomCommenter AHA HA!!!!
Wrestling Tips And Tricks U wanna get smarter? Explain why the lunar eclipses that are supposedly the earth's shadow because of the sun being directly behind the earth, how does that happen when both the moon and sun are visible above the horizon at the same time. They tell u the aforementioned eclipses happen because the sun moon and earth are lined up like billiard balls yet over 50 times in the last 5 centuries the eclipses have occurred while both sun and moon are visible above the horizon.
Also if the moon phases were produced this way the phases shld be reversed when the earth is on the opposite side of the sun lol
C9_Revelator Atmospheric refraction. The atmosphere acts as a lens for celestial objects very near the horizon, allowing you to see objects that are technically beyond the horizon and making the sun or moon appear higher in the sky (when close to the horizon) than they actually are. Thus it is possible in certain instances during a lunar eclipse to see the moon in the penumbra while it is setting and the sun is rising, or vice versa.
In fact, when you're watching the sun set, it has actually already set at the time when you see it just touch the horizon, but the atmospheric refraction means it looks like it hasn't.
Awesome video! My wife/myself and 5 other friends have already planned a trip to Nashville from August 19th through the 22nd to see this eclipse, very excited to see you cover the topic!
Watched the totality in Robbinsville NC. Saw everything you mentioned including the shadow bands! Best experience so far. Watched it with a group of microprocessor engineers they all saw them and were amazed by the sight. Thanks for informing us about it.
Oh I didn't know there was an elipse coming :|
What you learn from UA-cam everyday xD
:p
me nither
Evyatar Baranga I knew because I remember being told at age 7 that there would be an eclipse when I'm 16.
(Repent, the time of our ancestors has come.)
It's because there is no elipse comming, but an eclipse.
Ahhh, shadow bands ... snakes ... I wonder if there was a total eclipse when Pharaoh thought Moses was responsible for the pestilence ??? :O
It would explain the random darkness they had as one of the plagues. The weird darkness could've caused random frog and locus migration.
na they thought it was a parlor trick because pharaohs own people were able to do it on command. also never heard of an eclipse killing all the first born sons.
Karabetter The biblical account doesnt describe thousands of snakes. Just the one from Moses and Pharaohs magicians. Moses's snake also ate the other snakes.
Andrew Rhe darkness was the 9th of 10 plagues. That wouldnt make sense.
Andrew, I agree that a solar eclipse could have effect frog and locus migration. At totality, this man said suddenly they were surrounded by llamas that seemed to come out of no where. Right after, the llamas left.
Video Title: "Animals at Total Eclipse" at Fiske Planetarium channel.
Thanks so much for the helpful information in all of your solar eclipse videos, and thanks to the makers of the app! Due to being prepared with what to look for, and the timers and prompts from the app, our family had a great viewing experience!
I live in Chile and I have been waiting for 2 solar eclipses (July 2019 and December 2020) since 2007 (first year of high school)... And I knew of some of those phenomenon, but today I learned a lot more to prepare things for those events... Thank you!
So inspired by that man's passion. I hope I find something that will inspire me like that. Great video Destin!
I may have seen those Shadow bands around El Paso Texas sometime in the 90s. I remember during the eclipse the ground had all these little shapes and Shadows on it they were moving around and looked really weird
Brasstard 7.62 me too, I was in elementary and they pulled us outside to see the eclipse with special glasses
There hasn't been a total eclipse in any of the Lower 48 states since 1979...
TheSinisterMobs well it was some sort of eclipse idk what but I remember the teacher took us out with special glasses
Peter Rabitt what are you talking about???
There was no Texas in the 1990's.
+TheSinisterMobs -- I saw that one in '79 too. But we didn't have cool glasses for it...just a goofy piece of paper with a pin prick in it held over another piece of paper. I don't believe where I was at had complete totality. But it was neato nonetheless.
Destin, I just love the infectious joy you seem to have when doing these videos. It always makes me smile. Sadly for me, I am just about 100mi away from full totality. Between Sturgis SD and Rapid City SD IS where I live.
I live in the U.K. and went to the zone of totality in 1999 (Cornwall) and it was awesome. You're going to love every moment!
This is why I love this channel. Life enrichment +
Super excited for the eclipse! great video Destin 😋
When is it?
August 21st I think?
you are everywhere, but you changed your profile pic
I'm fortunate that I get to watch this in my own backyard in Casper, WY. I bought Gordon's app to walk us through this rare phenomenon. Thanks guys!!
Hi, UA-cam is a strange rabbit hole I started out looking at vids on camping grills and ended on one of your videos have seen a few and now I'm hooked thanks for your work.
The obvious question is, how is Destin going to capture these on camera for us!?!!!!
Heeeeyyy!
So this one is frequently called "once in a lifetime." Do you have any insight as to how this one compares to the one coming in 7 years that appears to be very similar across the US, just with a different path? If I live near the one in seven years, is it worth it to scrunch a trip down south into my budget for this year? I'm extremely excited either way!
2024 eclipse has higher magnitude and lasts almost twice as long...any other bits of info for comparison?
For people that can't travel easily or missed the last one for some reason, it very well could be "once in a lifetime". I think most of the hype comes from the fact that this is the first eclipse that is EXCLUSIVE to the United States since 1776 (1257 if you consider the current size of the US). I guess that's kind of cool.
It's _almost_ once in a lifetime. The 2026 one will be comparable to 2017, but 2017 is unique because its path goes coast to coast, giving just about the entire country easy access to totality. 2026 goes from Texas to Northern New England.
The last eclipse to touch the continental US was in 1979 (only Montana, Idaho, Oregon, a little Washington), but the last coast-to-coast one was in 1918. And even the 1918 one was off-center, the point of greatest eclipse was in the middle of the Pacific, 2017's center is in Illinois.
The US will be lucky this century, we're getting another coast to coast eclipse in 2045.
I love how the eclipse goes almost exactly over my home in southeastern Nebraska, it's so perfect!
Thanks for making all these videos about the eclipse! I managed to get some video of the shadow bands since I knew to look for them thanks to you.
All I gotta do is wait till 2030, drive 3 hours and see a total solar eclipse followed by sunset. Then in 2037 I stay at home, set up a hammock and look up at mid-day to see a total solar eclipse. It's gonna be worth the wait to see 2 total solar eclipses in the space of just under 7 years.
Andrew yea if we are still around.
Andrew I was 2 hours away from the plane of totality, but in 2024 (7 years from now) I'm gonna go to the plane of totality.
+Tetrachromia -- We traveled three hours away to get to that point of totality. It was well worth it. If you can travel to get to that place of totality in seven years, I HIGHLY recommend it because it was a most amazing experience I pray I never forget. Jesus is soooooooo good!
Why is Jesus is good? God made the Earth, Jesus is just his son who died for our sins...
Andrew Depending on which denomination you attend with. But yeah Jesus is good.
*opens door to put jacket in* "oh, it's *nine* seconds over there"
Destin, Thank you. We drove to see this and knew what to look for to have the best experience. Mind blowing!!!Loved the app to.
Thanks for being awesome!
Thank you for all your research into this and for introducing us to Dr. Telepun and his app. It worked flawlessly and without it would have totally missed both sightings of the Shadow Bands! We traveled from High Point, NC to Georgetown, SC and though we were fearing storms and clouds the sky was perfect during break all the exciting moments including totality. We were joined by our son, our favorite daughter-in-law and their three kids and though the 30 mile drive back to our cabin in Murrell's Inlet, SC took hours we all ogre that it was TOTALLY worth it! Thanks again, and thanks for all the hour of "educatainment"! Scott
This seems analogous to the double slit experiment.
What if shadow bands are created exactly the same way light interference is created in Young's experiment, but with the moon creating the "slit"?
Wow! I hadn't even considered that. I have to tell my oldest son about that. He will be psyched at the thought!
I bought the App! Loaded in a few seconds! Worth the $1.99 on the Google store for sure, and I can't wait to use it!
Hi Destin! This video has inspired me so much that I've decided to take my rock band (Blood Red Boots) from Chicago down to Carbondale to do a livestreamed concert in the path of totality! Thanks for all the amazing videos Destin!
What if Shadowbands are the shadows of the Moon's hills casted on Earth. I thought of that when he said that they happen right before C2 and after C3. What do you think Destin?
Those shadows would be too large
Aru C.O. Maybe even the individual sand/dust because of how fall away the moon is
Things that small don't cast shadows from far away, because the light just diffracts around them over long distances. You can't even see the shadow of sand and dust when it's on Earth, nevermind on the Moon.
maybe theres water on the moon? ive been underwater and saw someting like what they described. the sun with the water at an angle and the movement of the water was perfect to bend the watter and cause these "snakes"
That would fit in with it being related to diffraction (bending) of light, which also occurs when light travels into water.
i think you should change your yt name to smarter every month
😉
ah
ah
ah!
very funny
Azfar Zul he posts on snapchat everyday
Even if he doesn't post once a day you can always get smarter every day.
Azfar Zul omg i wanted to write that
Azfar Zul you beat me to it
Hi from the Oregon Coast! Just downloaded the app and found out we have around 1:45 of totality, but had no idea about the other phases. Thanks so much!
Viewing a total solar eclipse is a bucket list item for me. I already have vacation planned for it and this app will help greatly!
My grandma didnt allow me to play during eclipses because she said snakes get awakened during eclipses. Who knew.
ORDINARY ENTHUSIAST it could be also because of the light and temperature decrease, looking as late afternoon.
Just a legend or popular knowledge, It's interesting anyway.
But are there even any snakes to awake where you were playing? :D
8:57 ".. and you can look directly at the sun!"
Well, no you can't. The Moon is in the way >.> (sorry, couldn't resits).
Been planning my trip to the coming eclipse for months. This video was very informative. Thanks Dustin.
Thanks for making this video. I knew about the diamond ring and Bailey's Beads. Now I will try and keep an eye out for the shadow snakes.
Note to myself: Spend summer holidays in spain in 2026
Gonun i should do this too
Maybe spend a year there--summer of 2026 through 2027!
I had a total eclipse of memory and forgot this was going to happen this year! where are people planning to watch this? My nearest place is Salem, OR
Same!
If you want to maximize your chances of good weather, go to eastern Oregon, Madras will be one of the best places to be.
SuperSMT great idea!
Thank you so much for this video! I live in northern California and me and a group of friends will be making the journey up to Oregon to see the eclipse. I will try and see if I can get some footage of the shadow snakes as well as footage of the eclipse itself. Thank you far all the work you do and I will definitely be getting the app.
Destin, I live in Gallatin, TN and I'm a long time subscriber. I'm heading to Triple Creek Park where my family and I can share this once in a lifetime event. Are you watching anywhere close? I hope you capture the whole thing in all its glory for UA-cam. You make the best down to earth science videos by far. If anyone deserves to catch the first high resolution eclipse shadow bands it's you my friend. Good luck!
Not one of these lines match germany :(
Yeah I guess we Europeans will have to wait for August 12, 2026 and go to Spain.
Roland Deschain nor the UK... Ein groß schade...
weird, I remember 2 eclipses. 1 in the netherlands when I was in primary school, approximately 13-14 years ago. and the other in france on holiday, I'd say about 10 years ago. these are memories of my childhood (I'm 21 now) so I might not remember it correctly.
Maybe we northern europeans really have to go to spain in 2026. And Spain in august is not a bad idea anyway. I remember an eclipse around 1995 or 1996. I was a kid back then but it was awesome.
I'm french, and if I recall correctly, the eclipse was only partial, so I guess that's why it's not on the map...
Those folks don't seem happy to see you
We appreciate Dr. Gordon's contribution to this. It's noteworthy to see someone so intrigued about outer spaces and keeping the profession alongside.
I saw the bands in Austria, back in '99. Looking forward to experience this again!
Hey Destin, I'm making a response video with an amazing game/software I'd love to show you that you can simulate the eclipse in, I'm rendering it right now, I'll more appropriately contact you when I get it uploaded. :)
Oh hi, are you talking about SpaceEngine?
Eclipse - Legendary pink floyd song
totally agree
I'd love to time it so that at the exact moment that totality begins, the line "but the sun is eclipsed by the moon" is sung
that would literally be physical ecstasy
I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!
Thank you, Destin, for a fantastic video! Maybe I'll see you in Charleston, which is where I'm going.
This is one of the few channels where I like the video before I watch it because I already know it's gonna be good!
I was able to use some of my saved up Google Opinion Rewards cash to buy the app. He gets paid, and I get a free app. Woo hoo! Definitely recommend that route for people who don't like to purchase apps.
At 16:24 the SmarterEveryDay icon/subscibe overlay hides the bible reference in the video which is James 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
Philipp Schneider do you mean it eclipsed it?
Yes :-), but now it seems to be fixed because the subscibe button overlay disappears just before the bible reference blends in
Yes, nice! Although this is not the only video with a biblical reference.
Thanks for the awesome video.. saw the hour long table talk first.. this was a great synopsis.. am off to check out the camera recommendation video now!!
Only now have I gotten a link to this video and your app. I'm subscribed to Destin's channel but seem to have missed this one. Thank you very much, this is a very valuable app. I'll be traveling from the Netherlands to MO (we'll probably be in Carbondale IL for the eclipse) and I'll have my camera ans simple 300mm lens ready, so the app is appreciated a lot!
I used to use x-ray films o watch an eclipse... Old school way
I think I used CDs…
ALAKTORN How does a CD work for viewing?
+Tina Abrahamson
No idea, I just have a memory of my family using them when I was a kid.
Don't use anything but certified solar eclipse glasses! Other materials might be transparent to IR or have minor damages so you WILL burn your retina without noticing it.
Please don't use a CD, nor a floppy magnetic disk, nor anything other than actual solar viewing glasses. Please, please. Viewing the sun is not dangerous because of the visible light, it's the stuff you can't see. And you have NO idea if those home remedy solar viewing devices block those non-visible wavelengths or not.
Hi Destin, I know getting sponsors on UA-cam can be difficult, but if you're not already aware, I think you should do some googling about 23andMe and it's very controversial business model and the ethical considerations of having such a company as a sponsor. It's actually quite a complicated issue but I'll try to summarize some of the main problems: 1. providing medical information to consumers without context and outside of a patient-physician environment. Ask your family physician the next time you see them, or ANY physician for that matter, about their opinions surrounding 23andMe and you'll see what I mean. The general public has a very poor understanding of "risk" as a concept (it's sad but true) and when most people in the general public see a result saying their genetics have a risk for a disease, they'll interpret that as they will definitely get it. 2. many of their results are meaningless. A good fraction of the diseases they purport to show risk for are diseases that would have been diagnosed at birth or in early childhood. And the ones that present later in life that they test, many of them have risks modulated far more by lifestyle choices than genetics. 3. they sell your personal genetic information to pharmaceutical companies for profit. Their ulterior motive becomes even more obvious when you realize the founder is the ex-wife of a Google founder and younger sister of a top Google advertising executive.
I hope you'll reconsider having 23andMe as a sponsor in the future. There's a lot of better written articles out there documenting what I've said here, if you have the time, do some googling and see for yourself. Thanks for all the hard work and great videos Destin!
Moonspear He was sponsored in this video...
Moonspear . not to be rude, but to start a conversation; your points 1 and 2 are kinda pointless to me. Saying a company shouldn't exist because the technology doesn't provide information to the extent that YOU want is childish. Your dna is there, they help you access some information, do what you want with it. thats it. It should always be consumers' responsibility to educate themselves about tests and results. I don't believe that we should rely solely on the medical industry to decide what happens to us. Basically, its YOUR body, it's YOUR responsibility to fix it. medics are there only to help provide services greater than our own capabilities. Hey, kinda like 23andme.
I think Lauren J. really has a point!
Following your logic then, why do we need family doctors at all? If it's our body and our responsibility, then why don't we just WebMD our symptoms and never see a real doctor? Imagine if everyone could just order their own blood tests and interpret the results themselves. Oh I have high blood glucose, guess that means I have diabetes, time to start taking insulin? I think you, and everyone else, would find that ridiculous. There's a reason why blood tests are only ordered through physicians and interpreted by physicians before being released and discussed with patients... for the patients' BENEFIT. And /trust me/ when I say that the results from genetic testing is magnitudes more difficult to understand properly than the results of a standard blood test. If you wouldn't order a blood test without your doctor, why do genetic testing without your doctor? Most family physicians aren't even 100% comfortable doing genetic testing themselves and would refer you to a specialist, such as a clinical geneticist.
Moonspear . your comparison is completely misleading. How can you compare ordering a test to ordering a perscription drug? Two vastly different things with very different consequences. Not only that, blood glucose testers cost $60 at your local drug store. I don't believe knowledge should be withheld, especially knowledge about our own body. Do we need trained proffesionals to help interpret that data? OF COURSE! But if you have a condition (for example) I don't see whats so wrong about being able to walk into a lab and requesting a test.
For example. If I'm dificient on Vitamin D, I could keep an eye on it without having to go to a doctor! The labs always include normal ranges for all the routine tests anyways.
I love watching you talk because you can tell that the curiosity and passion is so prevalent. I'm still a college engineering student but I work with younger students and kids all the time and I say that curiosity is the best way to learn. Pursue what makes you curious. And each time I watch your show, you can tell that your passion is curiosity! Thanks for being awesome!!
Thank you so much for the video. This was my first total eclipse. I watched from niota tn about 1.5 miles from the center of totality. I was able to as everything you talked about including shadow bands. It was amazing knowing all the things to look for. Helped me really get my geek on. Haha. Was incredible!

Just bought my plane ticket to Columbia, SC to view the eclipse! Super stoked you're excited about it as well.
I'll do my best to capture the shadow bands.
Saw the shadow bands! Awesome! Thank you so much Destin for your wonderful videos! Would've never known to look for them! You are awesome!!!
I stopped watching the trump administration falling apart for this, this better be good.
Who am I kidding, this is going to be another great video
Tomato Potato Not sure how to tell you this, but I live in the UK, so your elections are more a source of comedy than something that keeps me up at night. It is great entertainment though.
Also, you aren't the greatest, just the leaders in military power, and if that's what you think defines greatness then you prove your own arrogance.
Ok, at this point I think he's just trolling.
Tomato Potato "Greatest nation in the world" Somebody come look at this!

Destin & Gordon, thank you for making my family's eclipse experience unforgettable!
Can't wait for the follow-up video Destin! Hope you caught great footage of the shadow bands!
I witnessed a total solar eclipse in Mexico in 1991. I was just a kid. My dad drove us to a nearby state to watch it properly near the road. A great experience!
OH MY GOODNESS THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME ABOUT SHADOW BANDS!!!!
I helped plan an entire trip for my physics graduate department to see the Eclipse in Sweetwater Tennessee and it went perfectly. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have observed the shadow bands, which was the second coolest thing about the Eclipse(the first being, obviously, the extraordinary corona) Thanks Destin!!
thank you for this. my city falls right in line with the center of the band and I've got all my camera and lens equipment ready. i'm so excited
Thanks so much for making this! I was meaning to do some investigation regarding seeing the eclipse and this was really helpful towards figuring that out. :)
Hey, SmarterEveryDay! I think you should do a video on the physics of skydiving! I think it would be very interesting to see what you find, and it would also be fun for you! I absolutely love your channel, and thank you for the work you put into it!
Thank you so much for this video! Just saw totality and saw the shadow bands after C3! Wouldn't have even known to look for these if it weren't for your video! Thank you!!!
thank you Destin you truly are an inspiration, because of you I went to nashville from chicago and totality absolutely made me speechless
Great educational video Destin and Gordon. Thanks! What is really cool is I never knew any of this about Gordon.....learned 2 things new today. :)
I can't imagine how his download rate has skyrocketed today because of this. I'm making a road trip from Austin, TX back home to TN to see the eclipse and couldn't be more thankful for the heads up on the timing/app!
Hey Dustin, I love your videos I watch them all the time. I actually really like your videos about flight training as I am in the process of becoming a fighter pilot for the United States Navy. Your videos give me insight into training i'll possible partake in someday. Maybe i'll be able to bring something different to your channel for you someday, which can be my unique way of saying thanks for the videos!!!!
GREAT info that you for all the knowledge you give to us about so many things. Love watching your shows. Keep them going.
This is such a good all encompassing video! Thanks so much for making it!
I know that church!!!!! so excited to see this total eclipse. Thanks for an awesome, informative video. I'm going to use the entire first week of school to teach my kids about this eclipse and how to view it
