Excellent review, I owned a 2020 RS and traded it in for the 2023 model but I would disagree with you about the 2020 RS being 95% as good as the 2023, stepping from the 2020 onto the 2023 you can immediately feel the much peppier low and mid range, the handling is also sharper but still planted, the only fly in the ointment is that the 2023 TFT is even worse than the 2020 but overall a superb bike.
Mark, you are contributing to my poverty with such great reviews, as I want to buy each bike you test, lol! I went to a Triumph ride day & rode 4 other models, but did not get a chance to try this one. Folks who rode it loved it.......and that intake/engine/exhaust sound to die for! Thanks for the great review, this one is on my short list :) Cheers, Ronny in Canada
If you get the chance Mark , try a Triumph Tiger sport 1050 . I bought my 2020 model last week and it's fantastic. That triple engine in 1050 cc , with a sit up straight riding position. It's very fast and supremely comfortable mate 👍
What other bikes have you ridden to compare against? I was fortunate to test one out for ten mins the other week. I thought it handled really nice, the tiger 900 was more enjoyable for me at low speeds but I didn't get to open the throttle on 1050 due to traffic.
I was suggested to try one of these by a Triumph dealer instead of the new Tiger 900 Pro with the X-plane crank which I didn't get on with principally the engine lacks character and suffersfrom vibes. However the Tiger Sport 1050 felt heavy, top heavy and spec wasn't as good.
Omg that engine sounds awesome. I love the face of this, I think the best of the triumph stable....I'd love one of these, just above my price range when I was looking, for the year 😅 maybe under the Christmas 🎄🎁 xx great review Mark ❣️
Excellent comparison review, thanks. Do Triumph sell these RS bikes with semi-slick tyres hoping that they'll get many more replacement orders the first time it rains? All of these Striple bikes are basically for the road. I wouldn't like to be stuck somewhere on those tyres in British weather and with British roads. Great bike, so tempted. But, as I live near Gotham (London) insurance, even with full no claims, is prohibitive. What a world in which we live.
Any thoughts on where Triumph may go next with this bike because it seems as though the current-latest iteration has maybe taken the engine as far as it can realistically go? A new, larger displacement, engine would perhaps seem the logical next step.
Hi mark great vids looking for advice looking at a new z650 or an r street model from this generation returning back to biking after a few years off what is more comfortable riding position and better bike for returning to biking ?
G'day Mark, l know it's a Triumph, but this would be one of the most disfigured bikes l have seen from this historic classic bike manufacturer, and that just my opinion, also l just purchased another Motorcycle a 1960 BSA A10 Goldflash fully restored, a friend is unable to ride anymore, sad 😢 buts that's life, great review, cheers mate Neil.
@@markpulling12 The reason I did NOT buy a Yamaha MT-09! We boomers want that late 70's early 80's UJM look and the Yamaha XSR 900 nailed this in 2020/21. Unfortunately the earlier incarnations had some sorting that was eventually done but as of 2022 onwards the Yamaha XSR900's look absolutely horrible thanks to caving in on the USA marketing surveys.
I'm interested in a new 765 R mainly in a few years but its good to have the comparison between this and all the others too. But the RS has a couple extras like the Barend Mirrors and Under Pan which is what I'd ad on anyways which doesn't make much a cost difference anyways. I'm a fan of all White so we'll see what options are available in the future.
Useful rear storage compartment. I love triples, but if I were looking for one, it would be an XSR900. Having said that, the only triple I've experienced is my trike's. 1990 [Nick J]
Hi mark well dissected review..my question for you is.. i currently own 765 S 2017 model do you think the 2023 RS would be good upgrade or should i look for a litre class like Zx 10r ?
Hi no I would go to something like a 1000 cc naked rather than a super sports myself...mt09 speed triple KTM 890 duke mt10 are some of my favorites best wishes mark
Looks a great all round package. An improvement on the 2017/2018 bike which was rather flat below about 8-9k revs then it flew. I found it quite tiring to ride as you had to keep watching your speed otherwise you'd definitely lose your license trying to keep it on song. However your review of this one Triumph made substantial improvements to the engine mapping and providing it with a lot more low down shove. The 2023 model must surely be better, but as you say this 2020 model with the cost saving compared to buying new seems pretty attractive. Will you be buying it Mark perhaps chopping in your KTM 790 Duke? You seem pretty keen. Many thanks.
Thanks for the comment Alex ...yes it's an incredible machine...one of the best middleweights .....I still love the punch of the 790 duke though.... maybe next year ,? Best wishes mark

Thanks Mark. What's not to like eh? Just ignore the "quirky" headlights and it's near perfect. I still love my '21 R and with bar-end mirrors, belly pan and rear seat cowl fitted it almost looks like this one lol. :>)
Hi ..no there are no reports of any major issues with any of the street triples....one of the best in this category in my opinion...nothing but happy owners Best wishes mark
@@calmcruiser I bought the bike second hand, so it was out of warranty. The dealer I took it too pointed out to Triumph that I had had it serviced with them and therefore should not have to pay for parts. They agreed and paid for the TFT and wiring loom although I had to pay for the labour. Which was not insignificant ☹️
Having a 2020 Yamaha XSR900 I feel spoiled for quality compared to any Triumph product. There is no comparison. If the 100% Made in Japan is 10/10 a Triumph is a 6/10 at best. Triumph are in the same league as KTM which is borderline acceptable. However way above any Ducati or Aprilia as they rate a pathetic 4/10 in my quality book.
Hi I've already reviewed the new R and Rs models....but people are always looking to buy used machines to save a few thousand on new ... best wishes mark
I don't think anyone really likes the dash on these or the new model which is more or less the same. Worst TFT going. The previous version to this had a nice TFT with a proper rev counter and it was fitted to the R too. This model R went backwards with the dash and the current one has a fisher price dash sadly 😢
.....that clock is truly awful. Triumph has had very negative feedback about the presentation of data on the screen for years now. But, it does nothing about it. Why would that be? Instead of trying to extract 1 more hp out of their bikes, they could look at the overall experience a bit more. They're selling the R with ridiculously aged dash, the only redeeming feature of which is that it's better and clearer than the one on the RS.

By far a better looking bike than the '23 model.

145 is plenty fast enough. I do smile at these around town sections. A quiet countryside village. Try the A56 from Altrincham to Bury at 7.30am.
