  • We’ve had quite a few requests for content for newer Twilight Struggle players, so we decided to put together a primer series to explain the basics of the game.
    The aim of this series is to introduce you to the basic game mechanics, but to do it in a way that helps you to understand the strategic priorities of the two sides and start thinking on a slightly deeper level.
    Let us know whether you find the videos useful, and if there’s any other information you’d like us to cover in future videos!
    If you enjoy the content, don't forget to like and subscribe!

    It'd be really cool if you create some more guides or strategy videos to improve.
    Congrats for this guide, it helped me a lot to understand the game deeper and make to love it even more.

    Good explanations! One comment: one rolls either 1 die (singular) or 2 or more dice (plural).

    Thank you very much for your videos which I found very usefull. Although I think there is an incorrection on this video on minute 20:28 and 21:20. You say that domination is obtained by having more battleground and more countries overall. But domination is achieved by having, in adition, at least one non-battleground. Isnt that right? Thanks again.

      Hi Pedro, yes you're right! I think I forgot to mention that early on and clarified that later in the video, but that is definitely a key piece of info to remember :)

    That was an excellent overview but you never got round to explaining realignments, as a new player that was kind of a tricky thing to get my head around. People ask why would you use ops points to only try to reduce the opponents influence in a country instead of couping?

    • @TheWinningAgenda
      @TheWinningAgenda  3 роки тому +4

      Hi Steve! That's a good point. I might try and pick that up next time I do a video in the series. In general, as you'll see from my other videos, realignments are really useful for attacking battleground countries when DEFCON is at 2. You can realign in Africa, South America or Central America when DEFCON is at 2, which means you can get your opponent out of key countries without affecting the DEFCON track.
      A common example is the USA realigning Cuba after Che is played. Because of superpower adjacency, the USA player can realign Cuba with no disadvantage. If the USA player can also get influence into Haiti and Nicaragua, they can realign Cuba with advantage +1 or +2 to their die rolls.
      Similarly, you'll often see jostling for realignment position in South America. If one player controls Brazil and another controls Uruguay and Venezuela, the latter player can realign the first player out of Brazil with a net +1 modifier to their rolls. If the Brazil player doesn't have influence at all in the other adjacent countries, this could stop them from playing back into Brazil and could allow the realigning player to then take Brazil on their next AR.

    My apologies for bombarding you with entry level questions, I have another one:
    21:00
    During scoring if USSR in that situation would rule Iraq neither US neither USSR would score points? As they both have presence?

    9:44 why do you put additional 2 influence? If in the beginning US can place only 7?

    • @TheWinningAgenda
      @TheWinningAgenda  Рік тому

      Most tournaments are played with US +2 influence handicap, meaning the US gets to place two extra influence into any country with US influence already in it during the setup phase :)
      This adjustment is universally used across all major TS tournaments and leagues. The result is that winrates for both sides across a large sample of games is close to 50/50

    Which side do you recommend playing as a total newb?

    • @TheWinningAgenda
      @TheWinningAgenda  Рік тому

      I recommend playing as USA as a new player ☺️ It’s important to get to know the ebb and flow of the game. The Soviets have to make the play in the early war and the USA is naturally on the defensive, so if you’re the USA as the new player you have to respond to the other player’s moves. Whereas if you start as the Soviets you may not get a true experience because you won’t know how to take the tempo and use your early game advantage yet.
