Who else believes that the first Lord Frey who originally from the Stormlands? If you do the math House Frey was established 600 years ago this would have happened when the Riverlands were ruled by the Storm Kings of House Durrandon.
@@KingOfWinter The "original" Frey from 600 years ago wasn't a farmer. He was a petty lord, so they were already nobility at that point. Just minor nobility. The Freys were not an old house. They had risen to prominence some six hundred years ago, their line originating from a petty lord who raised a rickety wooden bridge across the narrowest part of the Green Fork. They rose to prominence 600 years ago, but were probably much older serving as hedge knights, household knights, landed knights and petty lords. To put this in perspective, Littlefinger is a petty lord at the start of AGoT and his family goes back 4 generations. That's with him having connections to great houses.
@@KingOfWinter I wasn't pretending that I was teaching you something or even being rude. I was just adding to the discussion. Again, not to be rude, but it's really not speculation. People don't start off as petty lords in asoiaf. We're told that 600 years ago, a petty lord frey rose to prominence. Not that he founded the house. He wasn't a farmer. He was minor nobility. That's all that I'm saying.
They don’t become the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands because that title has already been awarded to Lord Petyr Baelish ‘Littlefinger’ along with the title of Lord of Harrenhall. The Freys have only been awarded with the title of Lord of Riverrun. This arrangement is from the books, of course.
Walder linestepped big time with the Red Wedding. A spectacular tactical victory to be sure, but a huge strategic blunder because he spit on the laws of hospitality which were sacrosanct throughout Westeros.
Indeed. It ended Robb Stark's rebellion by killing him and most of his army, but it left House Frey the most loathed house in the Riverlands, if not all of Westeros, with absolutely no chance whatsoever of rebuilding their reputation and surrounded on all sides by people who wanted them very, very dead.
You know you have blundered greatly when even the Wildlings and the Ironborn respect the Guest Right. Even in the Free Cities it is held high. And anyone with brains as far as Asshai will figure out that House Lannister was behind it. So it will ruin not only the Twins, but the Lions also. Goes to show just how desperate Tywin was to take out Robb, given that his ancestor Lyman Lannister granted the same right to Rhaena and Aegon (children of Aenys I) to protect them against Maegor I, regardless of the king's demands and the threat of dragons (especially Balerion) ruining Casterly Rock, Lannisport and House Lannister forevermore. Mind you, at that time the living memory of the Conquest was still fresh, especially of the Black Dread, and that of House Gardener's demise. So even in a situation like that, Lyman was not willing to do what Tywin did. Don't forget, the Red Wedding was the true rallying cry for the rise of the Faith Militant and Sparrows, mirroring Maegor's era in another way.
House Frey is absolutely fascinating. There is only thing more impressive than Lord Walder's list of grudges. And that's his incredibly complicated line of succession. When Lord Walder dies, House Frey will implode. And that will be a glorious read.
Yeah, I think what’s going to doom their House. We’re just gonna have a couple dozen Frey male heirs with nothing to loose but everything to gain. Although I have heard a theory that Petyr will take the Vale’s army and instead head west than north to gain allies.
@@ryanelliott71698 It's a stretch, but I think the Twins, in their disarray after Walder's death, will be hit with a two sided attack. With the Manderly's coming in from the North, and BWB from the south. Lady Stoneheart ain't the only one with a grudge against House Frey. The Twins are going to be essential for troop movements against The Others, I think.
Find them fascinating too their back story is definitely one of the coolest. It's a weird comparison but they remind me of that chick from the Titanic who gets scoffed at by all the other rich ladies on board because she comes from new money and doesn't have an extensive famous pedigree like them.
The Freys got one of the coolest sigils. I hate how the TV show made them look like a bunch of broke dirty bums when they were one of the most rich and powerful houses especially for a vassal. Another reason to hate the shows sloppy writing.
@@WorldOfWesteros I'm really curious how dragons know where to aim fire when their rider didnt say anything I think it might be some kind of telepathic link
I hope they make a comeback on screen in House of the Dragon. Fool Frey, though 'foolish', seems like a more honorable man than Walder Frey. They need to somehow show everyone that not every Frey is like that weasel Walder.
I mean, the Freys were always seen as these upstarts and glorified toll collectors. But Walder Frey ended up upping the scale with his lack of loyalty, constant marriages and constantly siring children over and over and over again.
If I allowed to become the lord of any castle or keep, I will choose the Twins as my seat and have a good relationship with House Reed of the Neck and the North😂😂😂
Doesn't matter. In the books, plenty of Freys live out of their reach, even in the Free Cities. Also, I'll never have any respect for any northmen or outlaws who will try to murder innocent Freys. Yes, there are those in the books, a lot of them actually, especially children. The books don't cater to your Stark biases, showpleb.
Jon Arryn being a diplomat and announcing he wants to ward children in the vale and turning down Walder is an incredible sleight up lord Frey

That's cool I had no idea they had ties to the Stormlands I assumed they were all from around the Riverlands area.

@@KingOfWinter Respectfully, it's not speculation. They were petty lords already when they were granted that land across the river.
Love them or hate them, there's no denying they have one of the most interesting castles, along with the Hightower and Casterly Rock.
One of the things i like about George is how he has come up with so many interesting castle ideas.

The bit that annoys me most about the shows take on the Frey’s is they totally ignored some of the off shoots who were not too bad in comparison.
