@@maltreviews I do not want to go too far, but it is just shocking to me, how distilleries like Laphroaig and Bowmore could turn that bad and simple and covered with horribly raw peat. I cannot understand that people applaud that vegetaly medicinal peat against these old miracles. These trends makes me hardly touch any new bottlings
Thanks for sharing such a rediculously, almost incomprehensible sounding whisky, even though there are very few people in the world that can experience it. Your descriptions of smell and taste are beyond amazing.
@@IDestiny26 The new stuff is def different to say the least. With Bowmore the difference is honestly shocking. With Laphroaig its def different but I do find regular releases that I still enjoy. Nothing will compare to the old stuff and most people that recently got into whisky wont get to try the older stuff unfortunately.
@@maltreviews Yes, it is truly sad. Probably the best way, let's say an "old &rare" exclusive type of a whisky show, with a very high, but definitely more affordable ticket price, than some of these bottles. But still, it is great to see these stuff, as reference points. Big-big thumbs up again, as always :D
Amazing, gentlemen. Thanks a bunch for sharing. The more I watch your channel I think that in the future this will be much more than just whisky reviews.....it is a recorded record that people would be able to look at when many of the whiskeys are truly no more, a glimpse into the past as it where. Anyways, thanks for doing this. Cheers
Thanks brother, we def appreciate you recognizing what we do. We always wanted to see video reviews of these legendary bottles so we got to a point where we were able to do it ourselves. Cheers Brandon!
You guys review the best whiskies. From your first review the super high end pours you bring are both welcome and a source of envy for me. Don’t ever stop.
Thanks bud. Appreciate it. Its nice to know guys like you watch and appreciate these rare reviews. I am assuming your stocking up on HP25 before taxes kick in?
Malt Reviews I have 5 already. Just got an older 48.1% so I’m good on those but, I did purchase some better whiskies in the last month... Balvenie TUN 1401 batch 9 after watching your review a few weeks ago. Also picked up a Lagavulin 1991 24 year (2015) Lagavulin 21 (1991) and the 16 cask strength (2017)... I know you highly recommend the older 21 but that was quit a bit more expensive. I will have to live through your tasting notes on some of the super premium scotches. Cheers!
Yes guys, let this caliber of whisky talk for itself! Great video yet again, this kinda of bottles are almost impossible to buy for reasonable prices, so your videos are like a vault to those who come late to whisky. Thanks dudes
Amazing. You guys are the scotch visionaries. The epitome of class. The best of the best. Museum piece bottle. Legends of dram! Scotch superstars, diplomats of drams! Much appreciated your channel! All my best! Cheers from Miami Beach
Great review and keep them coming. When I drink a very old whisky it adds to my enjoyment to think what was happening in the world when it was made. Not only is this a stunning whisky but think that it was distilled the same year that Elvis had his first hit.
I just picked up a Strathisla Glenlivet 40 year old Gordon Macphail that I can't wait to taste. Another great review guys. Still looking for my first Springbank!
Fantastic that you guys are trying this, I just tried the Bowmore 1973 21yo 2 days back and it was brilliant but hoping to try some 50's stock or even some of the 64 vintage stuff soon as it's high on my radar.
Hey Jason, Im sure you will bud. With your new job you should be trying some epic whiskies Im sure. I look forward to hearing about it. Cheers and all the best.
Sounds amazing, shocking how good it is! So am I right in guessing that you guys would rather have this then the Bowmore black bottles? Have you guys had any of the black bottles? I also would love to know where the color comes from, even the darkest sherry is not that color. Great review guys!
This is one of the best whiskies we have ever had. This one offers a diff style compared to the bowmore black. We did a review of the bowmore 1964 and that one is very similar in style to the bowmore black. Same quality for a little less money. Back in those days they used paxerrate so its very possible that color comes from that.
Ha...those Italian importers & distributors from the 1980s were the best, they just did knew what they were doing....For the only ones I tried from several distilleries each time it was a crazy experience, and often (not always) more interesting than the "regular" OB ones for UK...(I'm thinking for instance of Bonfanti's Laphroaig 10 yo here, as you talked about exotic fruit as well, but then some other serious exotic fruit contenders are rather continental, for instance that Benriach 1976 for The Whisky Fair, have you tried it ?). Thanks for the passion !
@@maltreviews Ok...You're very welcome & if you come across a Benriach 1976, just to let you know, here are the details about the one I was mentioning : BENRIACH official bottling,; limited release Vintage « 1976 » (Bottled 2009: 33 yo), For the Whisky Fair Limburg, Single cask N° 3558 (Hogshead : 162 bottles), 47,4 % abv. Curious of your thoughts on this one...
Just got back from Italy. Great review on another gem. Very interesting bottle. Wonder where all the fruit characteristics come from? I know its from the cask, buts its crazy. A 97 from you must mean you really like it alot. Its in your top 10, so whats the highest score you've scored a bottle and what was it? Good Job.
Thanks Keith. From those magical casks they had back then and the special barley that was used. Then you add the fact that everything was done slowly by hand. The rest is just magic. The highest we have scored on here on youtube is the Laphroaig 1967 Samaroli, which was a 98. There is prob 1 bottle we would score higher but want to make sure when we do the review.
Only when its low proof 40-46% and the fill level gets low or if there are signs of the quality dropping. I think the better option is to transfer into smaller vials though.
You bastards, hope u guys know how lucky u are, and wth, why can't they make juice like this any more?? Have you guys had a chance to make it out to Islay at all, beautiful place was lucky enough to get out there a couple years ago and visit the peat monsters during the festival. Thanks for all the GREAT reviews, you guys are really the best and I've picked up more than a few of your recommendations including that Highland Park bottling from the Liquor store in OC. Keep it up !

A buddy of mine just came across this bottle. I’m trying to help him find more about it. This video helped tremendously.

I am enjoying this dram vicariously since there's no way I'm going to pay the price of admission or go to Italy to find my own bottle... Slainte!
