Super controvertial but I find this coaster extremely entertaining and just fun to ride. The first drop in the back row with ample room is utter insanity and the rest of the layout only features a few sligt airtime moments yes.. but the way it rides feels like you are driving over cobblestones in a car at 90mph or something. Also the minimalsist trains help. And thank you so much for mentioning the soundtrack! I absolutely adore it and the atmosphere it gives to the station.
Rode this in the rain. Absolutely insane. Get by the bullets hitting your face and it’s just so much faster. Even overshot the breaks. Best ride I’ve had on it
I love this coaster, I remember going on it as a teenager. There's something about this coaster only having lap restraints which make the drop extra exhilarating.
The views from the top of the lift hill are incredible, as is the first drop. After that it's still a fun fast ride, though definitely on the rough side. I love the old fashioned clackety-clack sound of the lift hill too.
We visit BPB twice a year usually and I always get butterflys in my stomach while queueing for the Big One! It most certainly has that effect on you, great ride, rough, but great!
@@SousaphoneMusic seriously lol Coasters don't need to be thrilling to be fun, and even then that first drop is insane to the point the rest doesn't need to be Going fast, seeing the views, and interacting with other coasters makes it really fun in itself
I love this review. I know the Big One technically isn’t great, but I love the first drop, the speed, the retroness, the out of control feel, the views, the sound of the lift hill, the soundtrack, the way it looks, the interactions and the near misses. I could ride it all day everyday if I could. I think it suits a traditional seaside park (almost) perfectly. Sometimes I think about if they could replace it with a modern smooth hyper, but it just wouldn’t be the same. I hope they can eventually retrack the whole thing and paint it up.
i adore the Big One. Hyperia might be newer but i wholeheartedly prefer Big One. Big One just has so much charm and it’s just so much fun to ride you have a smile and are laughing from start to finish. Hyperia didn’t wow me but Big One still wows me even after 7+ years of regularly riding it
First drop Is a twisting devil and great fun .....after that it's just a nice ride around.... I think they could definitely look at restyling the ride in the future do something bold and daring with it to keep and update it's iconic status ... part of Blackpool skyline
Do you find big one better than the giavalona hypers? The giavanola hypers have two great helixes but a severe lack of airtime more so than this coaster although I’ve never ridden this. And the giavanola hypers have poor pacing given the fact that there’s several dull moments.
Do you have any opinions on Big One getting RMC'd? It could be the new UK's tallest, and world's tallest/fastest/longest RMC. It would also open the door for RMC to do the same to any other janky arrows now that their wooden market is drying up. As the main reliability problem with big one is due to windy days slowing the train down, an RMC layout would eliminate this problem as they don't have any slow elements, ejector would just become floater instead of rollback, so they could run it more of the time.
@CanobieCoaster it's popular relative to the other attractions in the park, but it's never running 3 trains and operating at full capacity, it would never have a line if it was. And it isn't the national or international draw it used to be, with a better ride more people would be in the park in the first place etc
For some reason it rides a lot rougher since being retracked. I used to love the ride but it's gotten to a point where it isn't fun for me and I love most 'rough' coasters lol.
Oh laughed at that. Superman is higher.... Brilliant. Although you where/R completely correct. I can understand slightly why they claim the height as above sea level. It's because the park is built on the beach. This can be seen under big dipper for example. I've stood on the sand.
That's true this park is on the beach so you can see the full effect of the height, but the same can be said with Glenwood Caverns where their coasters are atop a mountain looking down.
A bad hyper coaster is like bad sex or bad pizza: bad for sex or pizza, but good for food or fun. Therefore: The Big One is a bad hyper coaster but it's still a good roller coaster, if that makes any sense.
black pool pleasure beach acted like a psycho ex about hyperia saying you only beat the big one by one ft they even did the cringe master thing of printing it on a van that was driven about but discounting the measuring from sea level bs is actually wrong

This is so true the first drop is amazing the rest of the ride is nothing but with that view its more than nothing
It's fun if you look past the lack of airtime.

Wow! How much airtime?
I love this coaster, I remember going on it as a teenager. There's something about this coaster only having lap restraints which make the drop extra exhilarating.
I love how wicked the drop is.
A brilliant review.of an iconic ride. The back row on Big One is insane and every time I ride this coaster it surprises me! Thank you for reviewing!
You're welcome.
The views from the top of the lift hill are incredible, as is the first drop. After that it's still a fun fast ride, though definitely on the rough side. I love the old fashioned clackety-clack sound of the lift hill too.
I find it tolerable in most rows and it's fun if you look past the lack of airtime.
We visit BPB twice a year usually and I always get butterflys in my stomach while queueing for the Big One! It most certainly has that effect on you, great ride, rough, but great!
Nice!
I rode this as a kid. That first drop is crazy, the way it's tilted so it makes you feel like you're about to fall out of your seat.
I love how whippy it is.
Absolutely the perfect big one review!
Thanks!
people call it a monorail sometimes but having a massive fast monorail with some forces here and there sounds great to me

It has forceful valleys and an epic drop. It has some intensity.

I suspect they'll keep retracking it given its popularity and unique fit in the park.
@ I hope so 🤞
Got to love how at least two British coasters have the Union Jack on them, it’s not a lot but it’s funny it happened twice
I mean we’ve got nothing on USA, you guys have so many American themed coasters 😂
@@acidalex420Yep, and it's just as funny!
What is the other one?
@@CanobieCoaster avalanche! The mack bobsled in the same park
@@nerfer1091 Sik at flamingo land as well!
The first drop is amazing. The views are awesome. I like the turnaround and the helix too
It has plenty of good things. It just doesn't have airtime.
Magnum is my favorite pure hyper coaster so I really want to check The Big One out
Magnum is wayyy better, but big one has the superior drop
Magnum is way better because it has that crazy triangle ejector airtime
It has way less airtime, but it's good at some things.
I know I would be totally underwhelmed by the rest of the layout, but I'm still ready for that first drop to change me as a human being.
It's amazing.
Watching the back seat riders at 3:35 tells me a lot about this Arrow coaster! Ouch!
I love that drop in back. It's violent.

The ride is plenty popular as is, so I don't see the layout changing.

Yes due to the drop and setting.
The layout looks like something straight out of Jet Coasters layouts in Japan, but with a better surrounding and over 200ft tall.
That is true.
This was my first roller coaster I ever went on
Ambitious first coaster!
From the 90's to present ive ridden the Big One a lot. And for the time ever last weekend they didnt do the midcourse brakes!
Wow, did the finale have better forces?
@CanobieCoaster at the back there was more airtime going into it, but rest of ride onwards any difference was negligible.
Id say the 2 things that save this coaster are the first drop and visuals.
And positive Gs.

5:44 weird… the original profiling looks a lot smoother 😂 Maybe its the angle
You hit the twist at a steeper angle.
The first drop is fun but it doesn't do much after that. I think it's had its day.
Hyperia is amazing.
Hyperia is better, but Big One still has positive Gs and views.
You should do a review on the New for 2024 Danse Macabre at Efteling! After you ride it.
Not sure when I'll ride it, but one day.
We could have had magnum but better 😭
Honestly if the airtime hills following the first drop were slightly lower to offer actually airtime it would of been amazing
The drop is better at least.
For some reason it rides a lot rougher since being retracked. I used to love the ride but it's gotten to a point where it isn't fun for me and I love most 'rough' coasters lol.
I found it similar to my 2017 rides.
I’ve heard this ride described as the Millennium Force of the UK. Incredible first drop, but not really that much else to it.
That's fair, but Millennium hugs the ground so it carries the speed better. And it's smoother.
Oh laughed at that. Superman is higher.... Brilliant.

The Big Ramp
Many big ramps lol
How does Arrow go from making Magnum to this? Clearly they didn't learn why Magnum was so popular
This ride is popular with most guests, even if it isn't an enthusiast favorite.
Big one has never been the fastest in the world even when it opened in 1994,Steel Phantom was.
Yes I agree. It was the fastest in the UK when it opened though.
I love magnum so so so much… this ride looks quite worse
The drop is better at least.

I saw that van. That was funny.
Magnum’s drug addicted cousin
Lol
I love arrows so much. This ride is terrible though.
I like it despite its warts.
This coaster is the biggest pile of shite.
It's a weird hyper, but I like it.
