This album is for the people who appreciate artistry and storytelling. The tracks are not created to be mainstream. The productions are very minimal. The lyrics are top tier. It's Taylor's best album in my opinion.
Hunty I think I prefer reputation more than this one just because of what it represent. But to me it’s second best. It just helped me feel empowered. The fact that she was able to take a false narrative about her being a snake and turn it into art and profit off other people misrepresenting her and taking advantage of her is amazing. I also feel like reputation and folklore showcase her singing ability in ways that she didn’t before both of those albums. The singing is so passionate and the lyrics so unapologetic and I feel like I’ve never heard her that way before.

Tracklist- The one- Betty looking back in life and thinking of James. Cardigan - also Betty's POV. Looking back after 20 years or so. The last great American dynasty - Betty (Rebekah harkness) leaves town and moves to Rhode Island and marries bill. Their mansion is now owned by Taylor. Exile- the back and forth between James and Betty. It's their conversation. My tears ricochet - this is after James dies. It's his funeral. Mirrorball- this is about the other girl and James. Also could be about when Betty meets bill. Seven- when Betty and James were kids. Now she's looking back. August- POV of the other girl. This is me trying- this is James singing to Betty. Trying to make up for everything. Illicite affairs - James and the other girl. This is about their affair. Invisible string - inspired by Taylor and Joe. Mad woman - about Rebekah (Betty) as they used to call her the maddest woman. But also inspired by Taylor herself. For the people who have wronged her. Epiphany - James joins the army and later on dies. Betty on the other hand is going through her own shit in life. Betty - pretty obvious this is James's POV. Peace- this is Betty and her husband or probably James (I'm a little confused) but yes also inspired by Taylor and Joe themselves. Hoax- this is Betty dealing with James's death. So there it is. I mean the album is much deeper than this but I've put it in the simplest of the words here. No one is gonna read it but if you do then I hope it helps. For me, “tlgad” is kind of a “f*** it” song. People go around blowing someone’s actions out of proportion, or blaming them for tragic events or not fitting in, but you have a marvelous time doing it. You have to enjoy yourself and shake off what the haters say. So go ahead, have a marvelous time ruining everything.
basically the whole album is a collection of stories she experienced and heard hence the name folklore. it’s a combination of fiction and real life events.
They didn’t seem to get the message about “Mad Woman”....unfortunate. Appreciate their appreciation of her but still.
You guys should have yelled a war cry for dramatic effect and then said sorry cuz this album was spectacular fantastic of an art period!

The whole album is the story of Betty (Rebekah) James and the other girl he cheated on with. Cardigan is from Betty's perspective. August is from the perspective of the other girl and Betty is from James's perspective. And the rest of the songs are also inspired from them.
Tracklist-
The one- Betty looking back in life and thinking of James.
Cardigan - also Betty's POV. Looking back after 20 years or so.
The last great American dynasty - Betty (Rebekah harkness) leaves town and moves to Rhode Island and marries bill. Their mansion is now owned by Taylor.
Exile- the back and forth between James and Betty. It's their conversation.
My tears ricochet - this is after James dies. It's his funeral.
Mirrorball- this is about the other girl and James. Also could be about when Betty meets bill.
Seven- when Betty and James were kids. Now she's looking back.
August- POV of the other girl.
This is me trying- this is James singing to Betty. Trying to make up for everything.
Illicite affairs - James and the other girl. This is about their affair.
Invisible string - inspired by Taylor and Joe.
Mad woman - about Rebekah (Betty) as they used to call her the maddest woman. But also inspired by Taylor herself. For the people who have wronged her.
Epiphany - James joins the army and later on dies. Betty on the other hand is going through her own shit in life.
Betty - pretty obvious this is James's POV.
Peace- this is Betty and her husband or probably James (I'm a little confused) but yes also inspired by Taylor and Joe themselves.
Hoax- this is Betty dealing with James's death.
So there it is. I mean the album is much deeper than this but I've put it in the simplest of the words here. No one is gonna read it but if you do then I hope it helps.

Really nice you giving TS a chance, although this new album is not meant to be mainstream music, her lyrics are her strong point but I didn’t hear you discuss the bars. But, I’m glad you gave her a listen. She’s fire. Her other albums are more mainstream I would suggest reputation album and lover. Give those a listen. Both of them are very different than folklore, but equally spectacular.
