    Do you prefer marlin over GRBL? Have you tried putting on a bluetooth module on your arduino and run cuts using your android phone/tablet?
    I'm on the fence on switching or trying marlin because 32bit arm processor. But feature wise, I am not convinced. As the GRBL is easier on the fly to do setup changes.

    • @ZepLabs

      Samuel Assem software-wise sure it's possible..then you have to worry about the hardware though! Clamping onto your heatbed, mounting your spindle where your extruders are, the overall stiffness of you machine...and the amount of time it 'd get you to switch from the one setup to the other! But it's totally do-able in my head! 🍺

      Check out a company called Stepcraft to see how you can use multiple tool heads on a single gantry (router, 3d printer, draw knife, laser, ect.)

    Liked subscribed. I've got a Shapeoko 2 that never used the Grbl board since I have owned it. I 3D printed with it using a RAMPS 1.4. Now 6 years later, I want to run it as a CNC and not a printer. I have driver which handle 4A for the RAMPS. Should I go with GRBL or Marlin? Does it matter?

    • @ZepLabs
      @ZepLabs  4 роки тому +1

      Both will get the job done! I prefer the Mega-Ramps setup, along with a modified version of Marlin, just because you can run it on an sd card (no need for a computer to buffer the Gcode commands), you can adjust the feedrate live (as a percentage on your initial code), you can tweak an save your machine settings on the fly, run bed leveling cycles and small things like those. On the other hand, its been a while since I last used grbl to be honest!

      Hey Marcy!
      I dont recall, right now, as I am using two tb6600 to drive my X and Y. But this is a purely mechanical option. I mean once you decide how much microstepping you want to run your motors with, then you just calibrate each axis (steps per mm) and you should be golden.

  • @zink-elektronik
    @zink-elektronik 5 років тому

    Hello sir, can you explain to me. which one has high accuracy between marlin and grbl?

    • @ZepLabs
      @ZepLabs  5 років тому +5

      Hey David! In fact, accuracy of such a machine depends on the hardware instead of the software! Has to do with your stepper motors (200 steps per revolution are the most common ones). Then if you are using , let's say an 8:1 gear reduction ( I 'm not using any reduction here!) , you go 200x8= 1600 steps per mm! If you had that motor coupled to a threaded rod to move your axis, which had an 8mm pitch, this makes 8mm movement per revolution or 1600/8 = 200 steps per mm! And at last, you could always use microstepping (which relates to your stepper motor drivers, I mean the hardware!) to get this number even greater! So regardless the control software you are using, you just type in there those numbers (how many steps has each one of your motors to make to move the according axis carriage for one milimeter) and you use it from there! Between the two of them, I find myself to enjoy Marlin the most, but this is for other reasons, on which I should make a video about!

I have old CNC which is based on MS Dos and parallel port and I want to convert it to Arduino ( GRBL or Marlin) And I am not sure with which one to go. Have independent control and SD card on CNC with Marlin or use GRBL and PC. Option with GRBL is a bit cheaper but nothing serious. Thanks in advance ! :)

      Hey Petar! Thanks for your feedback!
      Personally, I enjoy too much the extra little things Marlin has to offer, so I wouldnt go back to UNO anytime soon..
      Other than that, both will work great!
      Also if I were to go back to a pc dependant relationship, I would maybe give a try to linuxCNC which also sounds promising..
