I use a 12 step process to remove gates / sprues. I won’t get into here but step 7 is “Acceptance” and step 11 is “Regret”.
I recommend cutting the sponges into small cubes and using them like that. Especially the white one wears out pretty quickly so you get a lot more out of them by cutting them up. You can also buy a 3 pack of them for gunprimer for like 3/4 bucks
I bought the raser origin and I love it. It's easy to use, produces good results, and does the work of a bunch of different sandpapers in one. I keep mine in a glass of water and dunk it between pieces - the water keeps file clean and keeps sanding dust down.
My fiance just got into painting these kits and has learned a lot from watching you on these videos. We enjoy watching the paint tests and seeing your line of products as well. Thank you for posting!
I got the same raser set for Christmas last year and I love it. I ordered the plus from majinhobby with his personal logo on it I think and absolutely love the both of them. I'm so glad you did a full video on it because I haven't even used the cloth it came with and wasn't sure how to clean mine. I've just been washing them in the sink. Thank you and keep making the videos because I'm serious when I say I've learned a lot from you. I'm using my airbrush more that I didn't even open for the first 6 months until I started watching your videos. I started around the time you were talking about testors going up in price that I went to hobby lobby and finished buying what I didn't have. Again thank you. Sorry about the long comment but your awesome and I'm glad to be able to watch your videos.
I was originally using a standard glass file I got off amazon which worked okay, but these are so much easier to clean and don't get clogged up as often. Really happy with the purchase, its a little expensive but it does feel like a premium product, so I don't mind too much.
Thank you for the fantastic videos mate, you have been such a help getting into airbrushing and building earlier this year.
I have the primer set, and man do i love it! does an amazing job removing the gates and smoothing it out, i was a skeptic at first til i finally bought it and used it myself!
I went out and got your suggestions from the last file video and they work great. Thanks for these tests, it makes it so much easier to get the right stuff right off the bat.
That masking tape trick is a pretty ingenious way to clean out the Raiser, and I'm sure it would work pretty well with other files, too. Looking forward to seeing your upcoming videos, Rex! :)
Love the Raser - I was originally using a standard glass file I got off amazon which worked okay but these are so much easier to clean and don't get clogged up as often.
I'm impressed how clear you make things understandable....look forward to getting one of those types of raser. Thank you
You're welcome buddy 👍
I just had the normal Raser Origin, but this definitely has me wanting to get the rest of the set. This was a really good way to display all the tools!
Always wondered if the raser is worth the extra money, so thanks! Also, thanks for mentioning Clarksville Hobby Depot. I checked out their website after seeing them here, and ordered a kit I had been looking for for a very long time--good price and good service!
Very interesting set, something to consider as I delve further into Gundam kits. I've had great success with the glass files. They are my go-to for the time being.
I’ve been on the fence for weeks on getting the Raser. You’ve convinced me, thanks!
Just bought a set plus extras. Been looking for something to make my Gundam kits look sharper and smoother. Looks like I've found it. Thanks for the review!
Completely agree! I bought a set of these and they work great. Their Grida set (for scribing) is also really good.
I've been looking to get these files for a while, good to see another person reviewing them, thanks!
Oh man I've been waiting for this review, I'm so glad to finally see your opinion on the gunprimer stuff!
I love the gunprimer stuff. I only have their basic original file, but it works amazingly. It’s been through so many kits already but still going strong
These look like some great products. Thank you for all the great work that you put into your channel.
Been looking at these Raser sets for a while, thanks for telling us how they work.
I am convinced! I am going to order those for my new build! Thank you for the great video!
I absolutely love the gunprimer products for my straight builds. Makes clean up so much faster!
Another great video! Thank you for taking the time to do it!
Love the video, great job as always. I was thinking about purchasing these tools so this video was very informational. Keep up the great work!
1:00 The Big O reference, loved the call back lol
I've always used nail file sticks, really liking the results shown here. I may have to look into picking some up.
Really nice review. I have been skeptical about this product. This is perfect for straight build model builders or with painting. Now i can start my backlogs again. Thanks
been looking into this things for a while now, now i'm convinced. thank you!
Very informative and great demonstrations of the product. Nice review!
Love your reviews! Very informative and to the point! Big fan, keep up the great work!
Been looking at the gunprimer stuff for awhile. Glad to see more info on their stuff.
Yeah, those Rasers are awesome. I bought one from USA Gundamstore when they were clearing out some of the older ones, still works great after almost two years. The Grida set for scribing is great too, perfect size for HG and RG kits, other scribers I’ve gotten were a little too big, but good for MGs.
The Grida wasn't my favorite for scribing. For the price, you're just getting a mechanical pencil with a nail. I've really enjoyed using chisels from Madworks and Dspiae.
Just found this channel and had to give you a sub/like! Really appreciate this. I've been building gunpla since the early 90's before I even knew what Gundam was (my first kit was a no-grade 1/144 Gerbera Tetra). I've only recently started getting deeper into the hobby though, doing extensive hand painting, scribing, and other customizations, so your channel looks like it's going to give me A LOT of help with learning new techniques! I have the Dispiae Siren glass file, which works great but clogs very frequently, so that masking tape trick was ingenious. Thank you! Been considering tryng Gunprimer's stuff sometime, especially their scribing tool and the balancer, so it was nice to see the latter in action, and I look forward to seeing the former when you get around to reviewing it.
For scribing, I would recommend Madworks or Dspiae chisels. For 1/144 kits, you could probably get a .15 or .2 and a .5. That will pretty well cover your panel lining needs. I tried the Grida and I wasn't crazy about it for the price. I could have just gone with the chisels and spent my Grida money on a kit. I love the Gunprimer Raser though.
Love the Raser, great time saver. I feel like I get the best results from going one direction like a cheese grater, going toward the edge of the piece. Shooting it with compressed air or air from your gun is another easy way to quickly clean the file.
Good luck on The-O it looks like a really good kit, nice video barbatos
thanks. was on the fence about buying a raiser and this info really helped
Thanks for all of your videos, they are the best on test on UA-cam ☺
I like using the Raser+ over the generic glass file you compared it to. Only because the Raser has the rounded edges and I found I would scratch up the part more often with the generic nano file if I wasn’t careful. Both remove the nub equally well. The balancers are great but again the generic ones do just about as good of a job. If you don’t plan on painting the model the balancers are definitely worth the investment.
I have the glass files from Amazon, but these look like the tools to use when I am looking to up my game in terms of a sharp clean appearance of my builds. Thanks for the informative video.
Good review, I’ve been on the fence about this product, results look good
Always enjoy watching the videos, thank you for testing.
You got me sold on that so I will pick it up. Always great video Sensei! 👍👊
Thank you again. Also ordered some AllClad per your recommendation.
Another great product review! Keep 'em coming!
Another great video. Might have to get the files. Keep up the great job!
Man I’m actually so salty I missed the reprints of this kit. It’s one of my favorites of all time and I’ve been too broke to get one but thanks for the chance!
Those look like excellent files thank you for demonstrating and I'm looking forward to the airbrush video next I'm looking to get a .2 needle/nozzle setup without spending a ton.
love watching and getting better ideas away good to see new videos
I use both the Raser and the black generic ones from Amazon. I didn't like not being able to see where the contact points were and you can really change the angle of the plastic with the files if you're not careful so I ended up peeling the sticker off the Raser. I found going one way until the nub is almost gone and then using a circular motion works really well.
Wonderful kit! Thanks for the video!
Been waiting for you to test this one! Thanks!
Love your videos! They are always so informative.
Thanks buddy
That kit looks amazing. Thanks for another great video.
Great review and totally agree about the outrageous shipping costs lately. It's actually a big factor in limiting my purchases lately. Budget for gumpla is small let alone shipping costing more than a kit sometimes.
Thanks for the review.
Sooooo true
Great video, keep em coming....I'll keep watching
Shiny like oil! I had purchased some of Gunprimers Balancer Gray and White and they are incredible for what they advertise, but the dont last that long at all but they do clean up stuff well and can add a nice polish to a straight build. There are some good alternatives if the Gunprimer stuff is a bit too pricey out there.
Oh and a little thin superglue can fix bad nub marks on clear parts decent enough, just use a little from the bottle with the brush.
Love your videos keep them coming. THANKS
haha that tape cleaning trick is really kool!!! thank you! that shine was crazy..wow!!
Clarksville hobbies might be my new favorite site. Thanks for turning me on to them.
That gunprimer is slick! really like that final finish.
I was just going to say thank you for helping me with what psi to use with my ps290 because my paint turned out great the other day.
Thanks for the vid, been curious about these
You can get really nice sanding boards at beauty supply shops. I buy a few nail files when my wife and daughter go to buy hair dye.
Thanks for this review, I’ve really been thinking about investing in these products
Very impressive, gonna order that kit now!
I'm still using glass nail files that you recommended a while back. They work pretty well.
I've been using my wife's glass nail file without her knowing, but I've noticed that the edges occasionally cut the plastic. I'm definitely going to get those soon.
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity. Definitely like the gunprimer stuff.
I am going to be all about that tape trick to clean the glass files!
I got these too. Nice to have in the arsenal.
You are just full of good information, and I'm just so thank full I don't have to store all your paints.
Awesome video, and Clarksville Hobby is awesome as well!
Great video Rex as always.
The balancer is one of my absolute favorite pieces of kit
Thanks for the review!
Every time you post a video, my hobby site wishlist gets that much bigger.
Great stuff Rex!
I have the Raser plus and it works great, well worth the price.
Been waiting for someone to do a decent video of gunprimer items.
Those are some nice looking tools I may have to get some of them to try them out.
Cool files more interested in the airbrush you should at the end. I can’t wait until you test it.
I absolutely love my gunprimer set. Need to get a new balancer set. Mine is done after about 5 kits.
Awesome review as usual!
Great video and the kit looks good too
Totally agree about the shipping.
That is an awesome kit to giveaway!!! Great video, I need to branch out on my sanding techniques. Thanks!
As i start more and more plastic models this set is very interesting.
I've got the raser plus and I love it butttttt I've started using files because of one of your videos
Pretty cool system. I've been one to always paint kits so I generally just sand down to 1000 grit but I've got a gunpla kit I didnt want to paint and this could have saved some hassle
I love your reviews keep it going!
Thanks for the great content as usual.
I’ve been interested in your take on these. Kit looks cool too.
Love your content! Keep it up!
Been thinking of getting the gunprimer products so this helps
Super reviewas per norn been hunting for something like these .👌 The-O is super....
Big shout out to Clarksville Hobby depot !!!! ROUND OF APPLAUSE 👏 👏👏👏 Thank you very much.
I can't wait to see the next video!! Whats the link for that airbrush so we can peak at it beforehand, if that's ok?
I actually gave away my generic files to someone dabbling in the hobby recently because I found the Rasers to be so good. If you're adamant about keeping a clean station and clean tools, they're a great product. I don't really see any real value in the Grida or the GP because the SAB set works so well - granted I haven't had an extended period in which to test the product. I am waiting for 'the Black' to show up to give that one a go, too.
I have wanted to work with the panel line guides, though. With some panel lining tape, you have to be careful and trust the tape to not let the scriber 'wander.' I've had a few issues where that happened in the past and then it turns into a nightmare. I'd love to see you review that product!
I really need to get a hold of some kind of glass files after seeing this and your previous video...
