    I am very traditional, purchasing quality pieces and keeping the look fresh with fabrics, art and color. Classic trad never goes “out” and can be adjusted to reflect current styles.

    I was a professional interior designer in LA for many years. Although I retired in 2017 and left California I still like to see what's trending currently. I cannot tell you how happy I am to see a movement toward less sterile looking environments, which I never felt were very welcoming. I always encouraged my clients to incorporate some type of large natural element within the space; sometimes they'd take my advice, sometimes they wouldn't. Thank you for this wonderful update.

    What I have found is when I get ideas on decorating I have an extremely hard time finding the items I need to bring it all together. About three years later I find that what I envisioned and pulled off is now in style and I find pieces easily. But by then I am off to a new design having problems finding what I need.

      Normally, I don't strictly adhere to what's in and what's out but I am so glad to see the frigid coldness of the institutional/industrial look go out! Being in a coastal place, I love a tropical look. I never liked the cane look, wicker, yes, but cane no. It looks like you have speakers everywhere. I had to get a new cooktop and dishwasher a couple years ago and had a choice of black, white, or stainless steel. I absolutely hate the look of being in a restaurant kitchen and hope that look disappears soon, and never ever comes back. Stainless steel is a fingerprint magnet and not as easy as one thinks to keep it clean. I absolutely hated my black cooktop and steel dishwasher. It reminds me of the current car color trend of black, white, gray, and maroon. Ugh. Regardless of what colors are trending, I still like the beachy pastels. And good riddance to the sanitized monotone look of all white. The other look I love is the warm colors like terra cotta, and a Spanish feel to a room! When someone walks into my place I want them to be comfortable, welcome, and at ease, not like they are walking into a room straight out of the latest modern architecture magazine. Actually I prefer the colors of 2023 better than what's coming up next year, so I won't be changing much. I enjoyed your video, thanks!

    I had no idea that caned furniture was a recent design thing. I haven't bought new furniture in years, so I guess I wasn't noticing the trends. Much of my furniture is vintage (such as a Duncan Pyfe dining room table), and I didn't need to redecorate anything. :-) I did notice the greys, were much better than the avocado green and gold and orange of the 70s, but I did grow tired of all.the.grey. Happily, I didn't need to paint anything during the reign of the grey, so I was safe. :-)

      It's not new. But like I said in the video, it was being used EVERYWHERE for a while. Nothing is new. We can't reinvent the wheel. But trends can lead us towards new ways of doing old things. That's why I love classic details and furniture. They never go out of style.

    I will ALWAYS love a white kitchen, but I would probably only have it on the cabinets, backslash and trim and possibly counter if a stone or stone look (like marble, white quartz), but I’d probably have a bit of color on the wall and always pops of colors in accessories. Possibly butcher block counter and wood floors.

      My cabinets are painted white. As they are in good condition and functional, I decided not to replace them but just to give them a fresh coat of paint. We did new countertops, though, and went with a Grey Silestone which reminds us of soapstone, and a grey-and-white, basketweave tile backsplash. We painted the island a dark Hunter green. I don't know how stylish it is (or is not), but we like it.

    Many of us simply don't care what's in or out-----or what someone says is in or out. We lead real lives, have jobs, care for family and loved ones, often with serious illnesses, and just don't waste any thoughts on whether our home is outdated or current in style. And, what's in today is out next week........so who cares what you say or tell others to do in decorating their home. Do your own thing, be happy, save money, and enjoy life.

    • @Designchickee
      @Designchickee  Рік тому +1

      Hi Susan... interior designers help clients create their dream home. They actually pay me for advice because they don't want to waste money. See how that works? So yes... your home should look like your own style. And that may change one day to the next. But that doesn't mean the interior design world is bad or silly or not important. But thanks for watching this trends video even though you don't care about what's going out of style. :)

    Does “current” and “out of date” mean “our industry needs to convince the public they need to spend more and more often”?

    • @Designchickee
      @Designchickee  Рік тому +6

      Every industry wants you to buy more and more often. It's not just interior design. Look at how cars change over time. More features become standard features because they force to you to spend more on the car. That's just how the economy works! It's not a bad thing... improvements can be great. It's just a matter of knowing the difference between what you need versus what you want.

    • @TheAseliason
      @TheAseliason Рік тому +3

      But see, this video takes on the the tone of shaming viewers who cling to a style too long or disapproval of those who do not update big and often. Get ahead of the other channels by discussing inexpensive changes we can make in our rooms without looking “same same.” It’s not up to me to keep the home furnishings or automotive industries afloat. Being smart with money is the only way out of an incoming economic crash. And none of the style channels addresses this.

      @@Designchickee If you say so. It seemed you were a bit heavy on the encouragement to stay away from the “On its way out-isms” by updating and redecorating quickly and furiously in a more superior tone. I know you make your money from this. I’m not attacking your work or your need to make a living.I would like to see videos that look at the bigger picture and are not so superficial. Show us one of your own rooms filled with items you love. May the recession/depression bring creative new content ideas. I mean that in the best way.

    • @Designchickee
      @Designchickee  Рік тому +1

      @@TheAseliason if I have a superior tone it's because I've been an interior designer for 25 years. It's not all about pretty trends and UA-cam videos. So ppl throw out perfectly good stoves? Who ARE these ppl? More money tha sense , as my mom'd say. My washing machine's almost 40 yrs old and works faster and better than what u can buy today. I can lift the lid after a min or 2 of agitating, thus, presoaking whites overnight. I can put a load thru an extra spin if needed. None of these newer machines are worth a hill of beans in my opinion! Obvi, I'm not dictated to by trends. I set my OWN trends. Never been a follower.

    Who has money to keep redesigning your house every few years. New paint colors is an easy change but continuing to buy new furniture and throwing out a few year old pieces isn’t sustainable

    How about you don't follow the "trend" and just do what is classic? Then you are always in style.
    Wouldn't say that white kitchens aren't a trend, they have been around ever since people starting cooking, making and storing food indoors. The original lime wash was a way to keep things sterile and visibly clean. This has lasted for centuries and many more to come.

    Nothing is more boring than an all WHITE kitchen! My dining chairs are cane backed, but the dining room suite is almost officially an antique and is heavily carved French traditional.
