  • Airguns are not firearms. So why do manufacturers put suppressors on them? And does it negatively effect performance? We test a factory stock Benjamin Trail XL Magnum .22 caliber break-barrel airgun to find out. Read more on my blog at www.moondogind...
NOTE to UA-cam Reviewers: Airguns are not firearms. Airgun suppressors are legal in all 50 states when used on an airgun and are not restricted by the ATF. This video was filmed on a gun range under the supervision of Range Safety Officers and Law Enforcement.

I know it's an old video but I just wanted to say I appreciate your sound and chrono tests! I always wondered if it mattered for air guns and now I don't have to anymore :) Cheers!

Has UA-cam forgotten they aren't a federal agency nor a law enforcement agency, and don't need to bother themselves with trying to enforce the law? They're a platform not a publisher so censoring is not their job either.

They definitely work. Kind of crazy how loud airguns can be when they just use air to push a pellet even below the sound barrier

If you're next to it, it's just above OSHA regs for safe sound levels. I'm just glad that it has no effect on accuracy. Hope you subscribed.

I've had a handful of break -barrels and am now into PCPs, exclusively.
I've had up to .25cal in break barrel and I couldn't imagine needing a suppressor on any of those.
As you stated, you're only really hearing the mechanics, slamming together,at the most.
I will say that, the Benjamin Trail you were using has a pretty good "crack" to it though. Lol.
PCPs on the other hand, can be a different story. Lol.
Many PCPs come with a shroud, anymore and the suppressor cones or baffles do pretty well.
Pull the shroud off the Benjamin Bulldog .357 with a 165gn. behind it and,WOW! LOL.
I don't think it's worth the money that most are charging for air gun suppressors.
There's a few guys doing 3D prints that are pretty sturdy and effective and their prices are much more competitive.
Just found your channel and I like the content so I'm gonna jump on.
    Thanks 👍

Probably a wee bit fps gain could happen for the pcps but for the springers maximum air pressure is already done when the pellet has travel 7-10 inch down the barrel from the breech.

I have an HW110. It is a PCP rifle, and without the moderator, it certainly has a very loud crack when firing. I have tried it with an air splitter attached and just the bare barrel. The tightest, and most accurate groups, came with the moderator attached. The splitter needs some fine tuning, but has potential to make the gun even more accurate. Obviously not as quiet.

You can see the baffles in the thumb. There was nothing inside them (no debris)? What were you implying that I was missing?

@@Moondog2A Didn't really see the thumbnail! Those look quite nice actually!
      Nothing like on mine.
I implied nothing, just was curious how the Benjamin got its sound supressing effect, the testing was accurate!

Interesting..in the uk sub 12ftlb …so a pcp can have a £35 suppressor or the new dony fl and no human can hear the difference…as chrony test? If it’s a few fps so what? Won’t make any difference

    • @Moondog2A

The sound supression doesn't make it silent that's for sure. Just a slightly more muted crack.

OK< what are the threads on the barrel? just get an oil can and threaded adapter. Whisper Quiet and the ATF can suck a Duck
