Mostly due to O'Connor taking significant time on stage 6 and wearing red for 13 stages, otherwise Roglic would have been in red for the majority of the Tour and it would have been a bit of a procession.
It actually was the worst... you knew who would win from the start, despite him not care about it or being really that superior. Every mountainstage won by the break, Wout crashing out, f*cking annoying grand tour. God bless we have Pogacar these times.
After 18 Stages, Ben O'Connor looks so strange without the Red Jersey! Best of luck tomorrow, my friend. Go AweStralia, Go! Oh well Second Place is GREAT! At lease you Ben O'Connor did not defend La Vuelta title in utter disgrace! Celebrate, my friend, and sleep well! Well Done!
Ben O'connor rode a super smart stage always at his own tempo. Didn't close attacks straight away unlike when he was in red he flawlessly defended his position on the podium today.

Still hard to see him winning with better support / a better tactical / pacing plan, but it could have been closer.

People can say whatever they want about BOC but a 4th place in the TDF , a 4th place in the Giro and likely a podium in la vuelta is a pretty strong resume. Can we say he has been the best rider outside of Bardet AG2R has had in terms of GC results?
Thanks Pat, great summary. Fairytale come true for Dunbar. O'Conner a deserved second place. Jayco having a good day with Dunbar winning and O'Conner joining them next season.
Really nice to see BOC growing as a leader and GC rider, not (again) following the absolute top riders and seeing his legs exploding, but riding his own tempo and defending his second place!
Dunbar looks so strong. I hope Jayco can pair Dunbar and O’Conor in the TDF next year. Probably still not going to make it to the podium but will be entertaining for sure! Two smart riders.
Once it was clear they wouldn't dislodge Roglic, I'm surprised that Mas and Carapaz didn't work together to put time on O'Connor. Mas probably could have won the stage, as well, which would have been huge for him and for Movistar.
Well done Eddie, 2 wonderful stage wins, great resilience and obviously very happy with Jayco as he is now riding with great belief and confidence in his own abilities…well done again, best of luck in Zurich.
Chapeau Ben O'Conner. He had to dig deep almost every mountain stage but not only did he stay on the podium, Mas couldn't even get around him into second
Well done Ben to come through that stage virtually unscathed. Hopefully he'll be able to defend his podium spot in the time trial. I'm reasonably confident that he can. I doubt too many people would feel that would be undeserved.
Chapeau to ALL the riders who "busted their guts" riding in this entertaining but brutal race. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the wounded. Thank you to LR for your insights, humour and respect for the riders. A GT is an amazing sporting event.
Soler really seems not to be the smartest guy out there... almost all of his attacks are totally stupid and just by chance one of hundred lead to success; he could have achieved so much more (and be so much more valuable for his team...) if he would use his brain while riding
he's also better when he doesn't stupidly go into the red to try to follow Roglic. Why did he go stupidly into the red trying to follow Roglic while wearing the jersey, instead of not blowing up, riding his own pace and lose less time?
FINALLY BOC! If only.. Had this kid learned this lesson two weeks ago and went his own pace up these climbs. What a frustrating guy he is. Must be torturous being inside this guys brain

Marc Soler's biggest rival is Marc Soler. Never been much of a team player so its surprising he gifted Jay Vine the early KOM points, but then back to the usual chaos by attacking the break! Soler is very unpredictable, rarely understandable but always entertaining.
I think Soler realized that as long as Vine is with him he is not going to win the Jersey. His attacks seemed very early in the climb. I think if you want to go for the stage you'd attack closer to the summit so you'd get a "rest" on the descent
From my perspective it looks so bad that 2 from the same team are riding against eachother as if they were not. Why wouldnt them just cooperate and try to go for the stage sin?
I didn't know Enric Mas had 12 kids. He also said in an interview that he is supporting with his cycling earnings his parents, grandparents, and cousins, two brothers and a sister. Enric mas has a lot of family.
This has been the best GT of 2024. If you guys were making a joke in the live stream, about shortening the Vuelta & Giro by a week I apologize for being stupid. But, when the only interesting stages in the Tour were the sprints, somethings wrong. Roglic had to ride to make up for giving BO 5 minutes, Kern Pharma victories, WVA crash changed the points totally, ED 2 wins. Please feel free to list some highlights of the Tour other than Cav’s win. TP destroyed every breakaway, zzzz. I love mountain stages and breakaways, that was this race. Finally, the adage that the racers make the race. This year this was never more true. TP totally dominated the Giro and Tour. At least the Vuelta was interesting.
Long time tour follower here. This Vuelta provided competition and close results. However, IMO TDF 2024 was raced at a higher overall level and my highlights included UAE's teamwork on the Galibier, the break-through of Eritrean Girmay, the sentimental wins of Bardet, Campenaerts and Turgis, TP's and JV's record-breaking performances on Isola 2000 and the sheer dominance of TP, a superb, generational athlete on the stages he won. Cav 35 was a bonus. Just another perspective from a cycling fan...
Soler clearly wanted the KLM jersey but then he pretended to pull hard for one kilometre before leaving his team-mate alone against the GC guys. This was pathetic.
Well BOC took his chance on Stage 6, didn't crash, was supported by his team and kept at it. I hope it marks a breakout for a rider with talent who may have underachieved so far.
It was reported that someone in the Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe staff had gotten salmonella and is in the hospital, idk how that works but maybe its possible to contract from others in a way?

Soler is clearly a future Movistar DS
He somehow even makes his tactics of racing for points confusing.
Can’t wait. Whatever team he manages will be the most fun team to watch. 😂
