is there a reason why france isn't on there?
'Russel Crowe used to live on this road in Roman times' Hahaha, brilliant!
haha yep, had me in the first half not gonna lie 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For a second I was kinda utterly baffled: How could I have missed this year's Strade? Then it doomed on me ...
"dawned on me"
Dawned on me
Same lmao
no me
Metoo
A "how the race was won" of a modern classic. LR going back to his roots. I miss these
I miss Cosmo
So happy I found his channel in lockdown before he had to get rid of all of those videos
Is Cosmo back anywhere? I think I saw him on one of the TV shows some time back. Would love to see joint LR and Cosmo commentary :D
LR so focused on GC, he is talking about GC groups in one day races 🙃
Was already hyped for Strade and even more so after this epic recap!!!
🎉This recap got me HYPE for this weekend!
Loved this recap. The footage @6:01 is so good; big shout to the production team for taking advantage of the scenery and getting the shots.
and what about @6:36 WOW!
It’s the small details like “flying bici” that makes me love this channel
That last climb is brutal! When MVDP beat Alaphalippe a couple years ago on that final ascent in the big ring it made my patellas scream.
That Russell Crow joke killed me
Fantastic recap! Strade Bianche is just built differently, love it! The terrain, scenery, and finishing into town. Thanks for great content ✌️
I forgot how sketchy that descent was when Pogacar attacked 😲 He took a racing line that showed how skilled he truly is
Alaphilippe likely underestimated how much that crash and consequent chase cost him imo. Maybe the adrenaline etc still kicking and then you just suddenly 'shutdown'.
Alaphilippe needs a redemption year
🎻
He already won a smaller French classic recently with guys like Barnet and Gaudut with a very hard finish. It's going well
He needs a redemption team.
It's kind of insane that Pog's only big mistake ever was trying to follow everything on Galibier. He showed up at 19 with the tactical mind of a veteran. I think this year LouLou already looks his best in years, so I think it's a 2-Up with Mathieu again.
still it was only mistake with hindsight. He knew Roglic wasn't 100%, but if he is 95% he can't let him go and get to Van Aert. Then we would have called that a mistake.
Alaphilippe never quite found his rhythm again last season after this crash. What a shame. Hope he does well again this year
How is no one talking about the "Flying Bici" at 1:31 😂
Wow i actually had only seen highlight videos of the race so far and only after watching this video i got the full picture without watching the whole race!
What the TV doesnt really show is that the gravel is not smooth, but there are many grooves/bumps from the caterpillar treads of local tractors (the farm hills are too steep for regular wheels), so it is like riding on a huge saw. I wasn't expecting that and rode the course in autumn, so the surface might have been worse than now, but when I asked the locals if they smoothened the roads before the race, they didn't think so.
Such good content. Love love love the analysis videos. That is what first brought me to this channel. Keep em coming!
Just in time, been waiting the entire year for this.
Pogacar can definitely win Paris-Roubaix if he focuses on it. He is one of two riders right now (IMO) who can win all 5 Monuments (along with Wout). The only question is how he can balance focusing on PR and focusing on his GT ambitions. He already showed he could do well on the cobbles of France. Of course, PR is way harder than the cobbled stage at TDF but he thrives at those hard races due to his ability to recover really well. I think the only way he wins PR is by getting away near the finish, either solo or by being with another rider who is not MVDP.
Strade Blanche is a beautiful race. Can’t wait for the 2023 edition.
Tadej has the ability to win all 5 monuments, but Roubaix is too risky, he could crash out and mess up his TdF preparation. I don't think UAE would want to send him there.
By the way it was a Golden Retriever I think. Maremmas are a bit bulkier! Hope to see a Labradoodle next time a race passes by Andorra!
I think they will do after he wins the other 4. Roubaix anyway is the best suited classic to win at later age. Only Boonen(24), Cancelara(25) won it on relative young age in recent times.
With Pogacar MIA, this year's SB looks to be a continuation of the Cyclocross season. Though Alaphilippe may want to have a say after last year's horror season.
wva pulled out earlier today.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Alaphilipe; but I’d really enjoy seeing a “shorts” compilation of Julian’s many dramatic crashes. The dude is amazingly durable.
Excellent camera angle at 6:40
An exciting recap!
We need a gram Camino stage 3 and 4 recap the run in on 3 was crazy
Can't wait for the women's recap, it was an amazing race (more exciting than the men's, in my opinion) 🔥
The fact the auto-generated captions spell his name as ‘Allah Felipe’ might be the best thing ever
No
That crash happened because of disc brakes. Look how the front wheel locks up and slides him out then crashing JA behind.
All the pros are used to the consistent modulation attenuation of rim brake. Hydro disc just have too much attenuation varation due to thermic expansion spectrums that are wildly inconsistent.
Small error in commentary at the start, Alaphillipe was fresh off his WC win in Leuven ;)
For your last question: Yes, He can win Roubaix IF he set his mind to it and IF he can sacrifice riding the Tour de France. For sure, for him to specifically prepare for Roubaix, he will sacrifice his preparation and form for TdF.
AND, why would you not have analysis video for this year's Strade? only in your podcast??? Come ooooooonnnnn!!!
0:13 Russel Crowe lived on this road in Roman times? Wtf, how old is that man??? 👀
No wonder Pogi won with all that turbo-hair sticking out of his helmet
Pocacar should go for all 5 monuments. San Remo he can win on atticking on the hills, Roubeix is possible too. Van Art as well could win giro Lombardia on a good day. love this sport
My respiratory system hurts just watching this footage 😷
I have not been this keen on a rider since Merckx! Pogacar is really something.
Wellens is killing it at UAE now. They're going to be hard to beat.
Even the horse is impressed!
I was curious to see how Attila Valter got 4th place, but I couldn't spot a single Groupama-FDJ rider in this recap (his team at the time) in any of the groups.
TDF champ attacking downhills on dirt. Love the new gen
I had to rewatch the part with the dog. I believe it's a golden retriever but I'm not sure. 🤣
This is the kind of race that would be good to cover with drones, to reduce the dust the riders have to breathe.
Was this timewise before or after Jonas Vingegaard waited for Pogacar in Tour de France after Pogacar chrashed?
Before
Thankey for the reminder. Both Alaphillippe
And Asgren had a horrible season in 22.
Enough to get Lefevre moaning of showing
Something for 23. Really hoping Asgren
Are ready for this.
Dem first 5 seconds 😱
9:14 Oh my goodness, look at that. Right here Pogacar even refuses to increase his horse-power! Wow!
That horse was crying out for some Laterne commentary ... as was I :>
RSC is back on the menu boys!
Tadej can win anything, including Roubaix. It's good to be Tadej.
nice content
Seems to be a battle between MVDP and Pidcock this year
Pidcock not good enough
Russel Crowe used to live on this roads
can someone explain to a new viewer. how does someone crash and then come first? wouldn't the people who didn't crash have a time advantage incredible hard to beat. seeing as they run such fine margins?
The clipless pedals makes me hate cycling crashes so much.
Yes, Pogacar could win Paris Roubaix, but so can Van Aert and Van der Poel too!
Is Tadej Pagacar going to ride away from everyone else again this year? Hopefully he has some competition this time. Nice Gladiator reference, btw 😄
Pretty sure he's skipping. He's got Paris-Nice coming up.
Vinge probably will be up there too with his current phoenomenal form . I hope Bernal and Remco will be there too and Hindley.
This weekend will be one of the BEST editions of SB. All of the HEAVY HITTERS will be in attendance and gunning for the win. Jumbo will be obliterating the field from the off. Weather will be
32/sunny and the race will be one of the fastest SB ever recorded. Too hard to even try to predict a winner with ALL of the top guns and their henchmen in attendance but this will be something EPIC. When is the LR, SB favourites podcast set to drop?
Unfortunately no Wout or Pog this time. MVDP vs LouLou vs Pidders is a great show though.
Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius used to live on that road in Roman times.
this shot at 6:36
Pogačar is wag above the rest, in a good day, nobody can beat him.
let's hope there are lots of BAD days . . . then!
Pids for SB 2023?
1:22 Julian Alaphilippe has no retirement worries. The Circus Soleil is still hiring!
Pog is a one man team. A bit like MVDP. It’s humbling to watch.
You almost have to wear a dust mask on those gravel sections. And all the cars don't make it better...
No kidding.
If Jonas, and perhaps more importantly, the entire JBV team, had simply rallied around Kuss last week and hadn’t played all of these stupid “to each their own” games, there’d be almost no controversy. Sure, some people might question why Jonas isn’t “performing better”, but most would’ve attributed it to his first week performance and to not being in form post TdF.
It’s a shame too, because Kuss is more than deserving. He’s not being “gifted” a grand tour, rather he’s achieving what he’s rightfully deserved. Furthermore, it’s tarnished a bit of Jonas’ and Roglic’s good will. Perhaps things within the team aren’t as bad as cycling media makes it seem, but to not give Kuss that support until now, after they get pushback, is immensely frustrating.
"Russel Crowe used to live on this route" lol.
what we do in life echoes in eternity!
Tadej “all day engine” Pogacar 😂
that crash is the funniest thing i've ever seen
Your latest sponsor feels wrong, I see GCN in direct competition with your commentary, which, by the way I would pay for any day of the week over the mediocre performances from GCN. No comedy, no flair, no enthusiasm!
Going to trigger some GCN fan boys on this one 😂
Pog is the smartest racer.
nope, he doesn't have a college education
Alaphilippe is just the unluckiest driver ever
flying bici 😂❤
Russell Crow lived here during Roman times?
Ala flip
Soudal-quickstep in 2022? hmmm
These guys Peter Sagan they are NOT.
6th Monument!
1:35 "the question is how badly do you go down"
Paris roubaix? Lmfao. Not if any of the specialists attack. Tour of flanders he could. But he would have to dope fir paris roubaix. He lacks the pure watts required
"FLYING BICI" 🤣
I took the bait 🤦♂️
Not fun reliving Alaphilippe's crash :(
Pogacar to win Roubaix?
Ok I get it, you just want people to discuss that and get a bunch of comments. Fair enough.
It's a ridiculous statement though. But I guess we all know that.
looked like a cream golden .. yay doggos lol
👍
Russel Crowe 😂😂😂😂
Nothing would encourage me to watch GCN
Has the colouring of a Maremma but not the alpha stance. Must be some kind of inferior breed or lesser bloodline.
great content, but... title implies a correlation hinting at lack of sportsmanship which is nowhere in evidence.
So this video is basically a plug for your video sponsor, because you're highlighting last year's race as though it just happened today.
The opposite actually. I always used to do throwback videos before races and enjoy doing them, however the cost of archive rights is extremely high. Last year I lost thousands of euro across the archive videos like the Egan Bernal Passo Giau descent, but that is obviously not sustainable. Having a sponsor for the videos like GCN+ makes it possible to make those videos again.
@@LanterneRougeCycling I love the video recap as a great way of reminding what's to come this weekend.
Ugh, shilling for GCN now?
Dude take the discount if you want it and chill out 🤷♀️
@@captainsushi24 it seems like you need a remedial class on how social media works - everyone gets an opinion. If I feel that it's gross and slimy that Lantern is out there doing GCN's bidding, then I'm gonna say it
Oh dear.... when did you become just another GCN lacky!! Some folks do anythin for money!!
1 year late
I must admit
Gravel = YIKES! 😲
How is it that all the tyres survive? 🤔
M 🦘🏏😎
