And I LOVED THEM ALL! I may have been a sports nut on the Genesis, but the Nintendo systems had some epic adventure games! Those were incredible times! From Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, Bonk's Adventure and Bonk's Revenge, Super Mario World, Sonic the Hedgehog, Goldeneye, Shadows of the Empire, and so many more, it was the best time to be a gamer! I miss the 80's and 90's!
Hopefully Night Dive Studios gets a hold of this game soon. They would do a great job improving it but keeping the classic charm it has. They just remade Dark Forces and Turok 3
im in the minority that likes the pc version more than the n64 version. And in all honesty im sad there has been no modding community to mod this game and create amazing custom levels. Theres lots of potential for Shadows of the empire PC to have its own active nodding community. ((i especially need a gamepad mod)) I also wish there was a ps1 port with the pc cutscenes.
At 9 years old man did this game aggravate and panic the hell out of me. But holy cow did I feel amazing when I got the jetpack and speeder. To this day I still don't understand why he releases a distorted bark when he gets hurt. i could never catch the millennium falcon leaving the hangar in the 2nd level, how badly I wanted them to take me from the creepy place with snow monsters. dear God those tentacle monsters still scare the crap out of me
i remember this game! my brothers and i could never figure out how to beat Boba once he got in his ship but i could have sworn it was first person back in the day but maybe im getting it mixed up with something else
Perfect candidate for a Nightdive remaster! It would've been cool if Factor 5 had redone this game when making Rogue Squadron with those graphics & so much more sound & voice. I guess they kind of did with the Hoth level, but the rest of the game needed a tuneup
I'm 30(unfortunately) so this game is still slightly before my time, but I'm still interested in trying this, jank as it is....if only most emulators weren't complete Bantha Poodoo. A remake would be cool though.
I love Star Wars. Now, to me Star Wars is a metaphor for life. It's story centers around the dysfunctional relationship between a father and his son. The other story at play rotating around that central story is the conflict between society, and individual personified in the movie as the light side and the dark side of the force. I love this game. I always will. I always come back to it. For some reason. But, you know. I think the reason why I come back to it is because I am unsettled in my own life. I think people love Star Wars, and video games in general because it gives them an excuse, escape from reality, so that they don't have to work at there lives but can just win in video games. Regardless, I love this rendition of Star Wars. It feels so Star Wars to me, even though it has hardly any Star Wars characters. I think Star Wars should have just made movies of this game, based on the lore, and others, rather than make weird story lines that don't make sense, like from Disney. George Lucas, should take back his rights to the franchise, and create some more memorable movies. He can do it if he wants to! Man, I love this game....
One of my favorite Star Wars games ever. I'd gladly pay for a full remake with current graphics. That options menu background was so cool. Luke Skywalker approves.
I was 7 in 1996 and I struggle so hard to deafeat Boba Fett and when I bring him down I celebrate to early because After Boba Fett there was also his spaceship. I was early to give up but my dad said: „Today is the day you are going to bring them down.“ And so was.
I played this as a child but somehow forgot or repressed the memories, pretty much the whole hoth segment was unrecognizable but then those moving platforms started bringing flashbacks
You might have just seen someone playing it at some point as a child or something. I played the ever living shit out of it so I remember every tiny detail 😂
@@Zee-Core-Gaming I left a similar comment on another walkthrough video 3-4 years ago so maybe my memory is just bad :D But it was definitely me, IG88 took me a dozen tries at least, i think 7ish year old me put the difficulty high and forgot about that too! I actually never finished it, I think my N64 broke, beat the ATST but never got to speeder bikes far as I poorly remember, might have to get back to it
I remember my graphic card could not handle alpha blending (transparency) which makes black squares around smokes when shooting probes. My dear father bought a 3DFX voodoo card to make my brothers and I happy for Christmas. One of my most beloved memories.
I use to play this game when having it back in the day a time we dis not have the kind of technology right now I've wanted there to be a movie about this it shows things which could have been included in the trilogy at now we finally get to hear dialogue in this . Happy Life Day Everyone and force be with us always .
Here's a thing: for some reason I love so many of the sound effects in this game. And I don't have that for any other game since. I don't even know if that's the right way to put it, they simply stuck with me all my life. To this day, I still sometimes randomly just hear the AT-ST walk in my head like a song. I love the sound of the blaster hitting an object. The main reason I prefer the Outrider over the Falcon, is the heavy, effin relentless sound of the turrets and the grinder-like cruise of its engines. There is something so activating and satisfying about all of these, like hearing a mean vintage car flooring it. /weird memory fetishes ... Yeah, I guess that was some sort of breakthrough telling somebody :) Have a peaceful day everybody
BONUS HOT TAKE: Anyone else think that Dash' design looks a lot more "complete" with the jetpack? Plus with his multitool-blaster, that it would have made him a lot more unique to make him sort of a good guys' equivalent to Boba Fett, rather than Han Solo? If you think about it, Kyle katarn also has that cocky smuggler personality, but the differenence in how he "operates" sorta makes him stand out from Han, even before his connection to the force. Okay, these were all my old thoughts from school about this game :)
Oh! the memories... I used to play this game infinitely as a child but my (ofc pirate) copy of the game didnt have any of those fancy cutscenes. All those years I thought Dash didnt make it! 🤣
MAN! The dark ass levels gave me a very bad feeling about those, but I don't back down that easily for a challenge. Thinking of that IG-88 level, sheesh! Still, I became a fan of the franchise with this game.
I love this game. Despite it being available on Steam - I've had some considerable issues playing it on modern hardware. Gall Spaceport is almost unplayable because the physics get real wonky with jumping. Anybody else experience this issue? Sounds like there is no fix other than patience. I played this game so much on N64 growing up. Graphics and controls haven't aged as gracefully as other titles, but I still come back to it from time to time.
I had a few people telling me I sucked at this game despite my disclaimer in the comments explaining how absolutely goofy the controls are in this version of the game. I'm glad someone else understands. 😂
Such a good game for it's time. Sadly the golden age of gaming has long gone. If only developers still gave this much time and effort into games nowadays
i remember being 8 or 9 spending the summer playing at my friends house pilot wings, mario, zelda and this game. it looks like you beat it in 3 hours...i rmemeber spending weekend after weekend all day long all night long playing this game LOL
Wait, the PC version had full blown 3d cutscenes? Wow, you learn something every day. I played on the N64 and had no idea this thing had a pc version and the n64 one was a port. Man I'm getting nostalgic.
I really hope Night Dive Studios does an Xbox port of this game with properly mapped controls for dual analogue stick controllers. There were a lot of limitations with the N64 controller that made the game needlessly irritating at times. Sounds like the original PC port also has some wonky controls too. Night Dive could do wonders with this game though given how well their other N64 ports have turned out.
Unless they do a major upgrade to this game it'll probably always be a PC and Nintendo 64 exclusive. I wish Nightdive would get their hands on it. They are the ones who remastered Shadow Man and Turok. They would make this game shine.
I first played Shadows of the Empire on a PC demo when I was barely 7. A year later I got the N64 version which is for me one of the best games ever made! A beautiful childhood gem indeed 😃 Interestingly some of you were freaked out by the lack of dialogue, it didn’t impress me that much as I didn’t know there were voice acting in the first place! But there were pretty scary elements: the wampas, IG-88, the sewers boss and the sand pit on the podracing level!
Potentially the best fuckin Star Wars game ever. Certainly one of the most unique! I played this to death on the N64 when I was younger. Was terrified of level 8 (The Sewer) level lol loved the music in level 9, and loved finding all the secrets and just the general sense of "exploration is good" this game provided! Level 5 was ESPECIALLY full of secrets that you had to go super out of your way for! Would love to see this game updated, perhaps.
Zee-Core thank you so much for uploading this! I have a Shadows of the Empire playthrough going on my channel right now and got completely stuck in the area with the three different levels and you have to open the doors lol. I thought for sure I was supposed to have the jetpack. I hope one day we get some sort of an update that will allow us to change the key bindings to make it more controller supported but for now just being able to play it again (for me PC as well) is great! Thanks again!
@@Zee-Core-Gaming They're killer- literally!!🤣I think I'm going to have to make a shorts or clip video on how many times the computer pulls me off a cliff!
Yeah when I was a kid I did. I think you get some sort of message from your droid if you try, unless there was something more I missed? I actually meant to do it during this run but forgot about it by the time I got to that level. lol
I didn't know this game existed but I never really played anything console. I played the PC series Dark Forces/Jedi Knight and Kotor RPGs and the point I want to make is how much more "star wars" they are, with cooler and better plots than the movies that came out this past decade. Maybe it's cause they were made in the 90s-2000s, when star wars was still kicking butt
I honestly dont remember these cutscenes happening when before fighting a boss, it usually has the small clip of the boss reveal then the action starts, maybe its been far too long since playing this on n64
One of my early memories was playing this game when i was 3 or 4 year old i played this game all day im surprised that i have advanced a lot in the game when i was a little kid i remember that Boba Fett was very difficult for me and the Tatooine Race too
Star Wars, in particular is a video game that people come back to time and again is because of the dysfunctional relationship between father and son, and the society versus individual nature of the story lines, converging with the fact that dysfunctional people tend to gravitate toward dysfunction. This is a theory of mine that I would love some feedback on. I think people, who don't know it, are drawn to Star Wars, because of these two very important story line features that make this franchise what it is, and thereby, so successful. What do you think?
Unfortunately, I think people are drawn to these two aforementioned principle story lines of Star Wars because the prevalence of abusive parents and the high degree of such a sick, society are all to common in the world we live in. Only, when you know, and accept this knowledge will you truly understand that life is not meant to lived in the shadows of the empire, but instead in the light of the individual!
I think you are right on all accounts my friend. Star Wars has many layers to it. There are lessons in pretty much every aspect you can gain from paying attention to the overall themes of the movies and games. Family, courage, resilience, defeat, victory, right, wrong, the whole package.
The PC version has a lot of nice features. Voice acting in the cutscenes and a more extended soundtrack is great. However, it's hindered by some questionable design choices. For one thing, because modern PCs can run this game at a much higher than intended frame rate; without a frame limiter, this game can actually fundamentally break. The physics and gravity are off (I've had instances where Dash has slid around on the normal floor as if it was a cliffside); as well as damage output of the Player and enemies is ridiculously high in the PC version (turn a corner into an Imperial? He will shave off around 50% of your life before you can turn around). In addition, some things animate too quickly (Boba Fett is supposed to launch a heatseeker and you're supposed to gain control and have to dodge it manually, but in the PC version this happens so fast, the missile hits you mid cutscene and deals no damage). These issues are further compounded by the game's weird control scheme. Luckily, you can get around it with a controller; but it's still frustrating as hell. Hands down, the biggest issues however; is the PC version is for no reason whatsoever, is missing important mission based information. Ever wonder why the Junkyard stage feels so difficult on PC and why your jumps feel so uncontrollable? The N64 version has listed warnings that mention when the convoys are making sharp turns. Jumping during a sharp turn would drastically hinder your momentum. These warnings were there so you knew to wait before jumping; but are missing in the PC port for some reason.
What if Star Wars had Live-action TV adaptations of Expanded Universe stories in the 90s? I was inspired by Power Rangers In Space with that idea. Similar production but with a higher budget

We need a remake of this masterpiece!!!!!!
That would be amazing, I would love if they did that.
Hopefully Night Dive Studios gets a hold of this game soon. They would do a great job improving it but keeping the classic charm it has. They just remade Dark Forces and Turok 3
I respectfully disagree, An HD remaster
2:15:21 Ah, the Chamber of Nope: My childhood source of fear and a long foreshadowing phobia of deep water.
The cutscenes have no reason to be this good.
It's amazing.
The audacity of these cutscenes. 🤣
Man I remember playing this like crazy as a kid
im in the minority that likes the pc version more than the n64 version.
And in all honesty im sad there has been no modding community to mod this game and create amazing custom levels. Theres lots of potential for Shadows of the empire PC to have its own active nodding community. ((i especially need a gamepad mod))
I also wish there was a ps1 port with the pc cutscenes.
I'm right there with you bro. This game needs mods or a remaster or both.
At 9 years old man did this game aggravate and panic the hell out of me. But holy cow did I feel amazing when I got the jetpack and speeder. To this day I still don't understand why he releases a distorted bark when he gets hurt. i could never catch the millennium falcon leaving the hangar in the 2nd level, how badly I wanted them to take me from the creepy place with snow monsters.
dear God those tentacle monsters still scare the crap out of me
I hear his bark in my dreams sometimes. 😂
the acceleration of those bikes on Mos Eisley is insane lol
They really are. You blink and you are 60 miles from where you started. lol
i remember this game! my brothers and i could never figure out how to beat Boba once he got in his ship but i could have sworn it was first person back in the day but maybe im getting it mixed up with something else
I'm 38 so this is right in my time. I remember being so impressed by the graphics.
I'm 32, this game was one of my first.
If only George would take back the reigns. We might get some of that magic back that Disney slaughtered from the franchise.
I’ve only played this on the N64 so I never knew that they had dialog.
Same here. I was very surprised to see actual fully voice acted cutscenes when I started this.
One of my favorite Star Wars games ever. I'd gladly pay for a full remake with current graphics. That options menu background was so cool.
Luke Skywalker approves.
😎
I was 7 in 1996 and I struggle so hard to deafeat Boba Fett and when I bring him down I celebrate to early because After Boba Fett there was also his spaceship. I was early to give up but my dad said: „Today is the day you are going to bring them down.“ And so was.
14:46 was nightmare fuel in '96
I miss old school games like this one. Nostalgia
The battle with the AT-ST.. in a room where it can't get out.
Lol. I remember the "PKAHHH" noise Dash makes when he jumps. So weird.
I never understood it either. Like it sounds more mechanical than anything. Lol. It doesn't sound human at all.
@@Zee-Core-Gaming "ARK! ARGH! ARGH!" - Dash
I played this as a child but somehow forgot or repressed the memories, pretty much the whole hoth segment was unrecognizable but then those moving platforms started bringing flashbacks
You might have just seen someone playing it at some point as a child or something. I played the ever living shit out of it so I remember every tiny detail
😂
@@Zee-Core-Gaming I left a similar comment on another walkthrough video 3-4 years ago so maybe my memory is just bad :D
But it was definitely me, IG88 took me a dozen tries at least, i think 7ish year old me put the difficulty high and forgot about that too!
That's awesome I bet y'all were super excited to boot it up after the card was installed. 👍
I use to play this game when having it back in the day a time we dis not have the kind of technology right now I've wanted there to be a movie about this it shows things which could have been included in the trilogy at now we finally get to hear dialogue in this .
Happy Life Day Everyone and force be with us always .
god damn this game was good as hell! the music was above most games even today. Man the hours spent on this game!
It still one of the best Star Wars games ever made for sure. 👍
You know what? Shadows of the Empire deserves a fucking remaster/remake. Seriously. They're doing it with every other franchise out there.
I completely agree.
Not likely to happen give the reboot pf Star Wars’ EU 10 years ago
/weird memory fetishes
... Yeah, I guess that was some sort of breakthrough telling somebody :)
Have a peaceful day everybody
BONUS HOT TAKE:
Anyone else think that Dash' design looks a lot more "complete" with the jetpack? Plus with his multitool-blaster, that it would have made him a lot more unique to make him sort of a good guys' equivalent to Boba Fett, rather than Han Solo?
If you think about it, Kyle katarn also has that cocky smuggler personality, but the differenence in how he "operates" sorta makes him stand out from Han, even before his connection to the force.
Okay, these were all my old thoughts from school about this game :)
I agree about the sounds, I seriously will hear something sometimes and it reminds me of random shit from this game. 😂
Oh the nostalgia. Loved this game.
Oh! the memories...
The sewer level is the one that got me as a kid. Freaked me the hell out.
I’m so used to playing the N64 version that seeing it in such amazing definition always takes me aback. Need to get that PC version
Beware, the PC version has whacked out controls.
@@Zee-Core-Gaming Urgh. Okay, thanks for the heads up. Maybe I can pray Nintendo port that version to Switch like they did with Star Wars Racer.
BRO, memory unlocked I clicked on this not even knowing but I beat this game on N64 and loved it when I was a kid
You can relive your childhood memories, I believe it's like 5-10 bucks on steam. Controls are whacked out though so beware.
there were no star wars movie in the 90s but the computer games of that time were a jewel!
😎
Probably my favourite SW game
This guy would have been an excellent addition to the new canon. I loved this game so much when it first came out.
*i've played this game on N64 a long time ago, good memories of that*
Same here. Game used to scare the crap out of me in certain areas, like the junk planet and the sewer level. lol
Such a good game for it's time. Sadly the golden age of gaming has long gone. If only developers still gave this much time and effort into games nowadays
Games used to be made by fans. Now they are mostly made by people who hate the source material and the fans, it's the weirdest shit ever. 😂
i remember being 8 or 9 spending the summer playing at my friends house pilot wings, mario, zelda and this game. it looks like you beat it in 3 hours...i rmemeber spending weekend after weekend all day long all night long playing this game LOL
It seemed alot harder back then. 😂
I had no idea that Canderous Ordo's voice actor also voiced Dash in this game all the way back in 1996!
I was flabbergasted by this as well. 😅
1:38:10 still better than the Book of Boba Fett chase sequence.
Yoda Stories - One of the most underrated Star Wars game, ever!! 😅😅
Wait, the PC version had full blown 3d cutscenes? Wow, you learn something every day. I played on the N64 and had no idea this thing had a pc version and the n64 one was a port. Man I'm getting nostalgic.
I had no idea until I started playing. Cut scenes are creepy as shit too. 😂
Playing this game for the first time as a kid I was shocked how big it was. Really impressive stuff for the hardware.
It really was. People don't realize how massive of a leap that really was in the industry.
24:00 the fall is completely in sync with the music.
😂😂😂
Man Diagona, The Giant Robot Gladiator and IG-88 are def the most terrifying bosses in the game!
The memories
I haven't seen this game in forever ❤
I really hope Night Dive Studios does an Xbox port of this game with properly mapped controls for dual analogue stick controllers. There were a lot of limitations with the N64 controller that made the game needlessly irritating at times. Sounds like the original PC port also has some wonky controls too. Night Dive could do wonders with this game though given how well their other N64 ports have turned out.
Honestly NightDive would be the ONLY company I would trust with this game. If NightDive releases something, I'm in all the way.
Really wish they would bring this onto the Nintendo Switch.
A beautiful childhood gem indeed 😃
Interestingly some of you were freaked out by the lack of dialogue, it didn’t impress me that much as I didn’t know there were voice acting in the first place! But there were pretty scary elements: the wampas, IG-88, the sewers boss and the sand pit on the podracing level!
The sewer boss is what did me in as a kid. I was terrified of that level. 😂
I still have the physical media of this game, PC CD ROM. I played when I was 8 or 9 years old.
That's badass, and rare. 😎
Those PC controls bro... 😂 But yeah I'll have to check out your walkthrough man. 👍
@@Zee-Core-Gaming They're killer- literally!!🤣I think I'm going to have to make a shorts or clip video on how many times the computer pulls me off a cliff!
Have you ever tried going back in the Outrider's cockpit on Gall Spaceport?
Yeah when I was a kid I did. I think you get some sort of message from your droid if you try, unless there was something more I missed? I actually meant to do it during this run but forgot about it by the time I got to that level. lol
@@Zee-Core-Gaming I've only played the N64 version. I wanted to see if these messages were voice-acted in this.
@@JediMasterBaiter That's a good question. Now I wish I would have went back. lol.
I must've shot at that Star Destroyer for 30 minutes straight back in the day, trying to make it's health go down to 99%. Never happened.
"We have Han Solo at home"
😂
This would be a great remake. One of the greatest books ever written and the game was awesome
I would pay full price. 😅
90's/early 2000's Star Wars is the best Star Wars.
We need this on next gen, just 4k, nothing else
I'd pay full price for that bro. 😎
@@Zee-Core-GamingWe really need both an Shadows of the Empire and Star Wars Jedi Knight I Remakes
I laughed my ass off man when you was playing it in camera mode LOL
I tried man, 😂. I was like oh Resident Evil style. Nope. More like me fumbling around getting my ass kicked style. 😂😂😂
I remember getting an n64, goldeneye, mario 64 and shaows of the empire.
Hell yeah those were the staples of gaming back then.
I honestly dont remember these cutscenes happening when before fighting a boss, it usually has the small clip of the boss reveal then the action starts, maybe its been far too long since playing this on n64
58:10 this was perhaps the most stressful mission that I remember embarking on, on the N64
1:59:07 NVM
😂
This is giving me flashbacks lmao
Dash needs his own movie.
They'd probably ruin it at this point.
@@Zee-Core-Gaming facts
man I miss old star wars games
The score really seals the game, amazing!
It is very immersive that is for sure. 👍
Dash Rendar, Kyle Katarn, Jan Ors, Mara Jade…. I miss them.
Yeah the movies should have been about them.
One of my early memories was playing this game when i was 3 or 4 year old i played this game all day im surprised that i have advanced a lot in the game when i was a little kid
i remember that Boba Fett was very difficult for me and the Tatooine Race too
The sewer level is what got me as a kid. Scared the piss out of me. 😂
Those wampas always gave me nightmares, and ig88
Me too bro. 😂
This is my all time favorite game of my childhood
😎
That fight with Boba Fett...man I remember
PTSD inducing. 🤣
* I meant to say, that life is not meant to be lived.
I think you are right on all accounts my friend. Star Wars has many layers to it. There are lessons in pretty much every aspect you can gain from paying attention to the overall themes of the movies and games. Family, courage, resilience, defeat, victory, right, wrong, the whole package.
seeing a ton of foreshadowing to star wars bounty hunter
this is awesome
In both games you can shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger. I noticed that as soon as I started Bounty Hunter. 😂
Wow the sound quality is way better then the N64 version
That would have been amazing.
I remember there being aquatic monsters in the sewer level that terrified me as a child.
I enjoyed the heck out of this game on the N64.
