  • From Dead Ringers & Impressions Show's Jon Culshaw & Christopher Thomson comes an interview with Michael Parkinson and the Second Doctor Who actor Patrick Troughton, set in 1985.
It is well-known that Patrick Troughton did not partake in many interviews during the course of his life, as he wanted to keep his personal life separate from the characters he portrayed on the screen. So we thought, what would it have been like if Patrick went on Parkinson? And here are the results.
We hope you enjoyed our performance as much as we did producing it.
    Produced by Jon Culshaw
Edited by Dan Lambert & Christopher Thomson
    With thanks to Another Tongue
    Music from BBC's Parkinson

Absolutely love this - such accurate impressions and I love the idea of Parkinson being so nerdy he'd make most convention interviewers blush!

The most astonishing things about this is I had no idea old Parky was so knowledgable about Doctor Who folklore! :D Bravo to both you chaps. A lot of fun, clearly made with love.

Amazing. I honestly thought this was an interview between the late great Patrick and Parky... the voices, mannerisms etc were absolutely perfect. Truly amazing.

    Nice work guys. :)
John's Pertwee is amazing! Most of his voices, I can tell it's him, but for a solid 10 seconds I could have sworn it was the real Jon.

Another tour de force of impressionist skills from Christopher and Jon. It’s not only the voices, but the eye for fine detail and conversational minutia like the pauses and fillers which really give the impressions a real authentic feel. Done with class and complete affection. Top work, Gentlemen! Love it!

Wonderful work Chris! There were points where I completely forgot this wasn't an actual interview. Both the impressions were great as always and the cameos from Pertwee & Baker were the icing on the cake. Was it all improvised? Because if so the fact that you both remained in character for the whole thing is all the more impressive.

    • @ChrisWalkerThomson
      @ChrisWalkerThomson  6 років тому +11

It was all improvised, yes. I spent some time going over the interviews with Patrick Troughton (there aren't many!) and taking notes on his similar answers in each of them, etc. Then when we recorded, Jon and I sat down, and he asked me the various questions for me to respond (in character). There wasn't a script for it. All improvised :)

Had me up until "Troughton" says "mischievous". The actor in the clip mispronounces it as "mis CHEE-vious". There's no way an old pro like Troughton would make a slip up like that! Otherwise, really enjoyed it!

It be great if you did a Parkinson episode with Tom Baker (impression) around that time on his role of The Doctor, why he decided not to get involve with Doctor Who after his time etc. But nevertherless, well done Chris and Jon, hope to see more great work.

Awesome work from both Culshaw and yourself and it legitimately proves that the pair of need to be hired by big finish to play the second Doctor and the third Doctor because the chronicle series and the actor playing 3 doesn’t do either incarnation justice and the two of you are infinitely more accurate in terms of performance and overall voice

Evelyn Mackenzie Actually, he did develop a liking for them. He didn’t like doing interviews and such because he felt people would see him as Patrick Troughton and not the characters he played on screen. After doing just one in England (the Five Doctors 20th anniversary one at Longleat) he was convinced to go to the US, because they didn’t show much of his work out there aside from Doctor Who, so he only did US events. He did love them, but eventually he went to one where he died :(
Sorry for lengthy explanation there but I had to research this haha

I was there from Episode 1, loved William Hartnell, was initially shocked when Patrick Troughton took over but after the also greats in Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, I felt it had lost its way and never bothered after that. The rest were too far distant from where its roots were. But Patrick for me the #1, without question. And Sylvester McCoy??? Whomever enlisted him deserved whatever fate became them....
