Apple intelligence's "potential" is like my bank account-probably better if I didn’t check it so often. The disappointment each time is becoming a joke.
The bigger issue is that features are definitely going to be tied to hardware upgrades moving forwards, so while 5 year old Android phones get more from Gemini, 2 year old iPhone users will be asked to buy another $1,000+ phone for a new feature. And Apple will use the on device or security point to try to sell them on it. Similar to CoPilot PCs, even though GPUs in other PCs are often faster than the new SoCs for this (RTX 3000/4000 cards, etc.). These features are not even approaching attractive. I'm not turning this on on my MBP. I heard it eats up gigs of storage with generated models, as well.
@@iTrensharo I hear you, as for the storage limitations I’ve been using Apple intelligence on my Mac for a few months now and have only noticed it using 3-5 gigs so really nothing crazy.
I would love a comparison between Gemini and Siri, especially with regard to their intelligence. Most comparisons are U.S.-based, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate comparisons from the Brits. You guys are cool!
There is no solid argument regarding intelligence until Siri intelligence is actually turned on early-mid 2025. As of right now, Siri is still the same ol' provide an internet resource assistant(not very useful)
Apple has two bad habits. One is they're always "late to the game" as you put it, and the other is they often implement a feature with shackles that make it cumbersome to use (when compared to the competition's option).
Being late is relative, as Apple prefers to develop its own features rather than buy them in. Apple views it as a long-term strategy to own both its hardware and software, rather than being an off-the-shelf company like most Android phones that rely on 90% of their hardware from third parties. This strategy is sound business. On the other hand, Samsung is currently taking the opposite approach. Instead of developing its own LLMs and servers, it opted to pay Google to use Galaxy AI. While this move provided them with bragging rights and good PR, it means that in a year’s time, people will be paying $20 per month for Galaxy AI. Apple, however, has stated that they have no plans to introduce a subscription model until at least after 2027.
There is nothing wrong with being late to the game because most of the time Apple ‘s implementations are better but yeah Apple Intelligence I can’t defend it right now and it’s pretty underwhelming at the moment but I believe it will get better. I just say we all gotta have a little faithand ultimately Apple Intelligence will win due to its focus on privacy.
I dont understand why they're being so cautious? I mean they launched a NEW iPhone without it whilst marketing it having THE feature, and even now it's in beta, and now WAITLISTED? wtf
My guess is they know full well Android and Anti-Apple nuts are always waiting in the wings to jump on the littlest thing they can to shit on Apple and when it comes to something as big as this is (for them) then you err on the side of caution cause if it goes wrong it's a P.R disaster.
Apple did an interview in which they mentioned why they are taking things relatively slowly. They see it as a long-term project, maybe over decades and want to take their time with the foundations. It seems sensible and typical Apple, get it right, not be the first for bragging rights.
Just changed these settings and it all now works. Don’t change the Actual region, leave that as it is. Change the ‘Preferred Languages’ to English (US) at the top of Language & Region settings, and change Language to English (United States) in the Apple intelligence menu. This will now work on UK devices (15 pro/max and 16 models).
I feel like apple could have given most of these basic “ai” features even to the older models i.e. iPhone 15 & 14 pro at least those writing tools, siri and notification summary. I can understand not getting the generative stuff, image clean up, etc. on older devices
They can but they won’t. The idea is for you to upgrade your 15 base and plus (and lower models). Just like how they want you to sell 128GB storages for you to get in the iCloud party. And like how they want you to upgrade your entry level Macs with a mind boggling 8GB RAM to a 16 GB for a very generous $200. Oh and they made the new Macs 16GB RAM on all entry levels now.. almost 2025!
I think the one thing that most don't realize is that the actual Siri updates are happening early next year. The only thing they improved with 18.1 is the ability to understand but the actual intelligence part, they are finishing their server farm before launching it. Wait til mid next year and that gap should close rapidly. If we want to talk about some of the short term improvements, they'll come with ChatGPT integration in mid-December. That will allow the user to just ask ChatGPT instead of Siri using voice but unfortunately the response will still be textual with the December launch as it is in the first 18.2 Beta.

Looking at the ram upgrades they are making to all their other devices I assume that will be a bottleneck on the current handheld devices.
Yes. I would be interested in seeing what Google can do. Although the lack of a car aspect for their AI is a dealbreaker. But I am sure they will address it at some point. It is interesting seeing what the different companies prioritize and choose to focus on.

Great video, much about what is still to be waiting for. And interesting on 6.43 and following seconds, I didn't catch what you did to make a recording that way, the way that didn't tell the other person that it is recording. Can you please explain?
Oh for sure. I was just saying that if you call somewhere with an auto attendant (press 1 for … press 2 for…) then you can activate call recording before anyone actually answers. I know that doesn’t help for most normal phone calls though!
i have a feeling that once siri is officially upgraded and intergrated throughout the system is when we will actually see all this AI come into work where their will be a ton of stuff you will be able to do by comand from then on

6:44 - I attempted to follow the steps that you have shown but I do not have that option to do so. Was this feature removed? Because as far as I know their isn’t a way to disable the phone call recording announcement to prevent other person from hearing in the phone call record message.
Pete tell me if I’m wrong please but my theory is that they do this because the slower they roll it out the more money they can make if LLM’s really don’t keep improving as fast or at all. Like wasn’t ChatGPT for done three years before it was rolled out?
Hi Pete looking forward to you hopefully reviewing the M4 Mac Minis. Would also be great if you could advise on the right hardware needed to create photo's & videos with AI versus creating the same work with online AI. Thanks as always.
You mention how to record the call without the notification being heard at 6:41 No one else has mentioned how to do this. Can someone clarify how to do this? I assume everyone will be doing this...
Ah yes sorry, I should clarify - this was when using auto attendant's like 'Press 1 for sales, 2 for accounts' where you can enable call recording before the first person actually picking up the call.
It's easy to call them late to the game, until you realize that the competitors aren't running LLMs on-device and are more focused on on-demand tools. Meanwhile, Apple's genAI runs in the background to summarize notifications, which works really well and puts them much ahead in the game. (I typed this out with intentional grammatical errors and used Writing tools to correct everything. I'm not sure if Pixels have it yet).
Apple intelligence is so awesome. I get nostalgic when I think about my first iPhone (iPhone 4s) how far Apple has come despite the fact that yes maybe they may be behind in “innovation” but no one does it like Apple does!
I think the comparison is more against Gemini nano. On the other hand, Apple Intelligence would be a portal into more capable models so I wouldn’t be surprised if you can also ask “Gemini”. Lastly, when executing tasks such as booking flights, Google has a range of non-Ai dedicated services in its arsenal. That means Gemini is just executing the right functions on, for example, Google Flights API. This advantage is hard for any other company to overcome.
Apple AI is Gemini and Chat GPT. Apple is just licensing this tech from them and slapping an Apple skin over it. The Pixel and Samsung phones have had these features for two years now.
Yeah sorry, seems like I confused a few people! When you call a business and it goes "Press 1 for... Press 2 for..." You can hit record then, so the caller never actually hears the "This call is being recorded" message.
Does anyone think that Apple Intelligence is a must have feature? I have an iPhone 14 which is not supported by Apple Intelligence, however I can upgrade to a newer model and get the new Siri with the Apple Intelligence features. Should I upgrade, or save money and stick with what works?
If you're happy with the 14, I'd wait a few more months until it's fully released. Whilst these features are cool, they're not game changing - and buying a whole new iPhone I think you'd be disappointed. Let's see what Apple does when they (eventually) get to launching the full Apple Intelligence they promised.
@@PeteMatheson You’re right, we’ll see what Apple’s got cooking up. If the new Siri lives up to the Hype and Potential, I might get the 16 by trading in my 14. 👍
As of October 28, 2024, it isn’t worth it because there aren’t too many must have features yet. I’d say wait a year or two when Apple Intelligence is a lot smarter
I would suggest waiting until around iOS 18.4, when we’ll have truly captivating features, such as app-to-app communication powered by AI and the integration of personal AI at a deeper level. I’ve been using iOS 18.1/2 for about 2-3 months now, and I’ve discovered features that I use daily, primarily writing tools, summaries in notifications and mail. Honestly, I don’t think I could go back to an earlier version of iOS.
I think people need to remember that Apple Intelligence is still very much in the early stages and as you said it has a long way to go. I’ve just installed it on my 16 pro Max and I’m looking forward to testing out the writing tools in particular.
I have an Iphone 15 and i have a delay for around 1second when i press the power button to lock my phone and i tried everything besides resting settings Does anyone know some solution because it is getting annoying not being locked in the first moment you i press the button like my sister's iphone Xs does so it's not a performance thing
It would be great if phone call transcribing and summary actually worked - it has never worked for me on 18.1 - maybe with the next release this bug will be fixed
iPhone 16 is the S series of phones. If you look at the release schedule from the start the 16 falls understand the S class. People should’ve waited for the 17 to upgrade.
The android auto thing is so trash, it used to work but gemini has broken it. Android auto still uses google assistant, glad you covered it and I hope this makes google fix the issue.
It's a very limited review of the actual AI features launched eg; the clean up actually scans a photo and suggests objects and people to get rid of, just tap on the glowing images, then you can do more manually. More new Siri features will be launched in December & the New Year. I'm a user in the UK of IOS 18.1 for a week (which 90% of people commenting here, clearly aren't) I am pleasantly surprised how useful Apple Intelligence is and how well it works! Apple have made it clear, this is just the first batch of Apple Intelligence and everyone is aware of the time frame, we've got a month to get familiar with 18.1 AI features, because the next batch including native English (& other languages) are coming in December 2024, which will have chat gpt integration with Siri, Genmoji & Playground 😊 So wind your necks in Android bots!.....this is AI for the rest of us ie; the normal people!
You like 'Yes' Pete? I've seen them loads of times and have loved their music since I heard 'Going For The One' for the first time in 1977. I just saw Jon Anderson here in Chicago on June 13th. T'was an epic evening. Was 2nd row center directly behind Jon's beloved 'Janie' and his daughter.
Beyond being a slightly rev'd up Siri, which I now barely use anyway, I just don't see the use case for AI. It just looks like a lot of hype to sell more phones. What's it going to do? Tell me the weather better?
I believe you should... it might take a while to appear for everybody. You could try restarting, and also come off wifi and check for updates over 4G/5G to see if that helps?
You have to join the waitlist. Settings. Apple intelligence and Siri. And it should be the first option to join the waitlist. Can take a few hours to a couple of days to get the intelligence features in beta form
I love how most people just don't understand that the AI agent will render all privacy and encryption useless. Of course to a lot of people that does not matter... and to us who do... we don't buy smartphones :) So in the end everyone gets what they want, some convenience, some privacy.
Most AI features go off the phone. I know some of Apple intelligence is supposed to be on the phone, but it's unclear exactly which parts. Voice transcription is a big issue. None of it is private at this point, other than some of the most basic offline dictation (and even there Apple is pretty slippery about what is sent to the server from what device).
Yes privacy is definitely a concern with AI, but in Apple’s case they did say that quite a handful of their Apple Intelligence features will be done on device, meaning it’s using the device’s raw processing power and system memory to do the AI work and not Apple’s servers. If you want privacy with Apple Intelligence you can go to the privacy and security tab, Apple Intelligence, then turn off report duration as this report sends data to Apple. Or if you want full security then just turn off Apple Intelligence.
@@elijahdelacruz3204 Apple keeps moving around the privacy controls and turning privacy off after even point updates. We cannot trust Apple any more, unfortunately. Not quite as bad as Google and Microsoft but in the same category.
Not trying to be that Apple fanboy, but when it comes to Apple promising that data is secure on device, they have done that before and to my knowledge never been lying. They have made that promice this time and I have no reason to actually believe that this is their first time lying about security. And they have also made the promice that the Cloud Compute will be 3rd party verifyable that no data is stored and that it is simply a processing farm. Could they be lying and they are comiting the perfect data theft? Technically. Is there any reason to believe that? No. I clairify my fanboy comment. I am an Apple guy, but I dont want to be that idiot that thinks there is no risk of data loss or anything when using AI, I just dont care at this point and dont see any reason not to trust the company. Could it get hacked? Problubly. But my house could also just get broken into and my computer gets stolen, so... My point is that its the most secure implamentation of AI thus far. And with most things happening on device its also the least reliant on cloud thus far.
@@cwhatucan yeah i’m confused what you meant here, like how are you recording people without them knowing? what’s the app? the wording is confusing and the video is not clear for this. would appreciate a response. thanks
I got a tech question. Why isn’t there 5g chips in these phones? Open one of them all from iPhone the iPhone 11 up to iPhone 16 pro. Non of them has a 5g chips?
Apple Intelligence is the equivalent of Siri for Digital Assistants. It's pretty looking, but pants compared to the competition. If Google allowed Gemini to run on IOS, they would get 70% market share similar to Google Maps

I can’t figure out Reduce Notifications and Summarize Notifications. I’m on 18.1 on a 16 Plus.
Hi Pete looking forward to you hopefully reviewing the M4 Mac Minis. Would also be great if you could advise on the right hardware needed to create photo's & videos with AI versus creating the same work with online AI. Thanks as always.
the innovative approach Aliagents is taking with tokenized AI agents is seriously next level
Wait a second. Hasn't my Samsung/Android phone had these for years.
No they didn’t. Wait a second, you’re one of the android warriors from fe community? Right?
ehh... No? Most of the features, no.
Ah, such a useful tool. If only it came to like 98% of iPhone users.
Where can I get that wallpaper. ?
I noticed apple intelligence don’t work on facebook and ig when typing or trying to use emojis made by the user
@@PeteMatheson Ah yes I understand now, beautiful. Thanks. Just subscribed.
There's an extra long space between (ahead in--the game) did Ai do this? Just curious.

This advantage is hard for any other company to overcome.
yes comparison of Apple Intelligence, vs Gemini vs Galaxy AI and perhaps Perplexity too :)
Apple AI is Gemini and Chat GPT. Apple is just licensing this tech from them and slapping an Apple skin over it. The Pixel and Samsung phones have had these features for two years now.
It’s confusing when you explained the case where the caller wouldn’t hear call recording alert. Please tell us again?
Yeah sorry, seems like I confused a few people!
When you call a business and it goes "Press 1 for... Press 2 for..."
You can hit record then, so the caller never actually hears the "This call is being recorded" message.
@ ahh makes sense, thanks
I love my Moft Laptop stand for when working on the go... will look at these new cases when I upgrade early next year
Oh nice! Is that the origami style one?
@ yeah. Bought it back in 2016 and has survived 2 device upgrades and still going strong.💪
Definitely make the Comparison between the 2. I want to see which one better
9:45 Gotta use an American cowboy accent to talk to Siri in US English, for example "Howdy Siri, I reckon I'd like to mosy on over to McDonalds"
If you want more integration.
But 2 free apps on iPhone 14 is copilot AI and Google app on iOS and select the Gemini option for iPhone.
What do you mean “the automatic menu will hear it?”
None of the current Apps are taking advantage of the Apple AI. Devs need to update their apps.
This might be the real issue, if devs needs to create hooks and give permission to share and integrate data to ai it’s a huge stumbling block
Quality vid, I remember you from the old tekkers days!
I didn’t get Apple Intelligence feature (15pro) please help me
I have an Iphone 15 and i have a delay for around 1second when i press the power button to lock my phone and i tried everything besides resting settings
Does anyone know some solution because it is getting annoying not being locked in the first moment you i press the button like my sister's iphone Xs does so it's not a performance thing
Definitely want to see comparison between AI and Gemini. (sorry about the rhyming) Nice video!
Noted! Thanks
I haven’t found a use for (A)pple (i)nelligence yet.
The android auto thing is so trash, it used to work but gemini has broken it. Android auto still uses google assistant, glad you covered it and I hope this makes google fix the issue.
I doubt they'd listen to little old me, but yeah, really bugs the hell out of me when they're singing and dancing about their new Gemini AI!
It's a very limited review of the actual AI features launched eg; the clean up actually scans a photo and suggests objects and people to get rid of, just tap on the glowing images, then you can do more manually.
More new Siri features will be launched in December & the New Year.
I'm a user in the UK of IOS 18.1 for a week (which 90% of people commenting here, clearly aren't)
I am pleasantly surprised how useful Apple Intelligence is and how well it works!
Apple have made it clear, this is just the first batch of Apple Intelligence and everyone is aware of the time frame, we've got a month to get familiar with 18.1 AI features, because the next batch including native English (& other languages) are coming in December 2024, which will have chat gpt integration with Siri, Genmoji & Playground 😊
So wind your necks in Android bots!.....this is AI for the rest of us ie; the normal people!
Im from Germany. What is this apple intelligence??
You like 'Yes' Pete? I've seen them loads of times and have loved their music since I heard 'Going For The One' for the first time in 1977.
I just saw Jon Anderson here in Chicago on June 13th. T'was an epic evening. Was 2nd row center directly behind Jon's beloved 'Janie' and his daughter.
At the :58 how do you get that edit button that’s apple intelligence?
Beyond being a slightly rev'd up Siri, which I now barely use anyway, I just don't see the use case for AI. It just looks like a lot of hype to sell more phones. What's it going to do? Tell me the weather better?
I am using iPhone 15 Pro with iOS 18.1 . Do not see the Intelligence. Why?
I believe you should... it might take a while to appear for everybody. You could try restarting, and also come off wifi and check for updates over 4G/5G to see if that helps?
You have to join the waitlist.
Settings. Apple intelligence and Siri. And it should be the first option to join the waitlist. Can take a few hours to a couple of days to get the intelligence features in beta form
@@PeteMatheson thanks for feedback! But i have tried everything, changing regiona and language. Nothing happens.
@@lockheedmartin3275 Did you restart your device afterwards? That worked for me
Did you check on Siri settings?
Yes, yes, yes! Do a comparison video with Google Gemini.
Not available in Germany
is if you set your region and language to usa, im in australia and it worked for me
I am waiting for you to do a review on the new Marshall Monitor 3 vs Bose QC Ultra
I love how most people just don't understand that the AI agent will render all privacy and encryption useless. Of course to a lot of people that does not matter... and to us who do... we don't buy smartphones :) So in the end everyone gets what they want, some convenience, some privacy.
In what way does Apple Intelligence “render privacy useless”?
Can you explain more about what you’re doing at 6:42?
Recording a call to myself, lol
@@PeteMatheson thank you for the reply! But how people are recording calls without the other side knowing?
@@cwhatucan yeah i’m confused what you meant here, like how are you recording people without them knowing? what’s the app? the wording is confusing and the video is not clear for this. would appreciate a response. thanks
People do know if you're recording, it will announce it to them
I can’t wait for all of this. Oh wait, I have to
also on the Mac, I had great expectations, but this release seem like it should have been a ghost feature/theme change release
Can it be disabled ?
I got a tech question. Why isn’t there 5g chips in these phones? Open one of them all from iPhone the iPhone 11 up to iPhone 16 pro. Non of them has a 5g chips?
The smartphones are ok how they are now , no one needs extra distractive futures and so on , the phones become smarter we become dumber it's a fact
Agreed. I don't need 95% of the features so I'm just keeping my iPhone 15 which can't handle Apple Intelligence.
you can see what type of breed a dog is which I found kinda interesting
Not working fo photo finding
Yes! Compare Google Gemini with Apple Intelligence. I want it because my father is considering a new Smartphone.
wait what?
i can have apple intelligence here in europe if i just set my iphone on US English?
If you’re in the EU, no. Only in non-EU European countries like Switzerland and the UK.
Yep that seems to be how it works. Device needs to be set to US.
@@Khloya69 although Switzerland still no Image Playground
I can't wait for next year when the personal intelegence launches, I also am very excited for later this year with Visual Intelegence.
In all fairness, the Siri sending messages over WA is available before apple AI so it’s not even a new feature 😂
I would love to see a deep dive of Gemini vs Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence is the equivalent of Siri for Digital Assistants. It's pretty looking, but pants compared to the competition. If Google allowed Gemini to run on IOS, they would get 70% market share similar to Google Maps
i want u to compare apple intelligence and galaxy ai
I would greatly appreciate a video on Siri (Apple Intllegence vs Gemini). And being a CEO of small 25 people startup, we are looking forward to giving apple devices to all employees. However, we use Microsoft 365 as our office suite (Outlook for emails, Excel, Word, Powerpoint and MS Teams for internal communications. A video on if Apple Intelligence work with Microsoft application will be extremely helpful.
I wonder how Apple Intelligence compares with MS CoPilot?
@2:18 That example of a person talking like AI was hilarious. I had to save this vid as a favorite.
Yes a comparison would be nice
thanks for censoring hey siri hahaha
Oh man, I thought I did but my phone still kicked off when watching it back just a minute ago, lol
But hey it's the thought that counts right! :D
@@PeteMatheson yeah true lol worked for me though
He got me as soon as I seen this comment lol
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
I dont really understand the starting point that it has the potential to be the best implementation. None of the features shown are new? What makes it have this potential above ChatGPT or Gemini? Is this a nice way of saying its the worst implementation? 🤔
Got my ai within 10 min of waitlist. Let’s go
It’s currently just a framework, it will become better over time as apps get integrated
