I like how you literally do the math on a property as far as how far back each action or plan, taken by people, will have an opposite reaction by the deer. Very few people think that way, and they should! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, as im sure they have helped more people than you realize.

I had a small buck chasing 3 fawns last night here in Central Wis. He was exhibiting all the classic rut behaviors. Interesting.

Jeff you’ve helped me so much! I own 28 acres in a big woods setting of Northern MN near Osage, MN. My three sons and I put in a lot of work and we do really well on that 28acres! Thank you!

I just finished up 3 patches of timber cuttings on my property. 👍 I have a mostly aspen stand so I’m falling all of the aspen and hinging the few maple and oak that are mixed in. The more time consuming part is cutting trails through the mess of fallen aspen lol

I have a county road that goes through my property which cuts off about 30 acres that I treat as its own small parcel. Great video!

Jeff, you mentioned the issues with a “road” through the middle of a parcel. I would appreciate your comments on dealing with just such a situation on a small, say 40 acre property, when it can’t be moved to edge of the parcel, like an easement for example. I’ve been watching your videos for a long time Jeff. Thanks for all the information.

Hi Mark...thanks a lot for watching!
It depends on the frequency of use .. especially during the season. If it was used a couple times a month or more, I would heavily screen it as a tunnel of cover on both sides, and treat it like 2 almost separate parcels other than a major crossing more towards the with and North. The major crossings would relate to food, water or other attractions on either side of the road but hidden from the road. The wall of habitat on each side would be somewhat porous, with an opening for deer to go thru every 50 yards or so.
So much to consider but I would make it so anyone using the access would have very little impact on either side. I would also make sure I could access around the entire parcel.

Jeff, you ever had a problem with a bear playing and ripping down your vines over your mock scrap? its a travel corridor, that lots of bucks go thru etc. but the plays with it then after the second or third time its ripped down. and it isnt like you can go in there on oct 30 and take a ladder and put it back up

Jeff, I have a 1/4 acre field right dead in the middle of a 38 acre 10 year old timbered and not replanted bedding area. its a north south running ridge top with fingers that run down to food plots on east and west. We haven't done anything with that 1/4 acre field . Previous owner kept mowed. My question is should I just let it grow up or plant something not to hunt over but just for the deer either for bedding where they can lay in the sun or food? Thanks for the videos been watching for years!

When making a hinge cut timber management area is predominant wind a large consideration of where you locate them?

You mention moving your access roads to the outside of the property... What if you have neighbors that have treestands 10' off the property line and you create a nice open runway for the deer to travel right next to their stand? Everything is posted and they've been asked/told to stay on their side unless a wounded deer crosses over (and they get my permission first), but they only have 4-5 acres butting up to my 50, and they don't hesitate to shoot over the line... If I keep my access road along that property line, won't the deer also travel that opening since it's the path of least resistance?

love the concepts ,solid advice! Do you think its better to chainsaw three days in a row or three Saturdays in a row, I don't know if the deer have a preference

I can say that we had our woods timbered in 2018, the deer were in there just as much as any other year, eating tops I assume. As for bucks it was one of the top years on the property as far as who was on cam. In my limited experience timbering / chain sawing didn’t hurt a thing, even when it was underway.

I have a question for Jeff or anyone. We have a trail system right now that runs through the center of our property. We are working this winter to add a trail system the would line all our boarders so we can access from the outside. But would you recommend keeping the interior ones moved an open so we old have access to keep doing improvements Ike cuttings and plantings or let it just grow over and stay out? We do like to drive atvs and snowmobiles through in the off season. Thanks you in advance for any thoughts
