I'm also reading these books because I feel connected and see myself in the characters and I'm so happy I found your channel, I really agree with your thoughts on these books and happy that I can connect with your thoughts as well!! 💖
I’m so happy as well! Being able to discuss the characters and stories that mean so much to you with other people is one of my favorite parts about reading
love this video bc I'm on the same journey in my reading and you've sold me on some of these books I was originally avoiding!! Gotta recommend "a field guide to getting lost" by Rebecca Solnit - I think you would love it as much as I have. It's non-fic and way she talks about love, music, relationships, time and place is just wow. helped me revisit and navigate so many implacable, distant feelings and memories that I buried throughout my 20s. look into it!
I'm so happy to hear it resonated with you! which ones did I sell you on? And yes I will check that out, it sounds so interesting!! I've read solnit's men explain things to me and i've always felt a kinship with her.
i know im late to this but i just found you on tiktok & so looked for this & i thought this was so great. i think i've found discussion around these novels to be quite suffocating, but i felt like you really breathed life & generosity & aliveness to these books/moved beyond some of the surface level discussion about them. i think i am gonna pick up the idiot at some point soon & then see if i wanna read anymore of these novels from then - i also loved loved the clip you shared of zadie smith talking about these kinds of novels !! that was rly fab! :) 💚💜
Wait thank you so much for saying this! I’m so glad. Yeah I agree I feel like a lot of conversations surrounding cult books are surface level and I really want to go beyond that. That’s what I like about booktube, there’s more time to just rant and go in depth about something.
This video was *chefs kiss* writing down all these recs. I really realized in 2021 that this is one of my favorite (if not my fav) genre as older gen z

And yes I love Zadie smith! She’s one of those authors who are so good at articulating a cultural phenomenon
@@batumanslittleidiot yes totally !! there can be much for space & nuance of opinion often!
