this is brilliant haha I love your deadpan sense of humor. I clicked on this video thinking that you could single out any of the men in War and Peace as a fuckboi and it would be valid, but yeah Nikolai is definitely up there
“To resist stanning Ivan” 🤣 I looove this video! I agree with everything you said about The Idiot. It’s also one of my favorites. I can’t wait for the second book. I want to read more of Selin’s narrative voice 😔
I only found out about Batuman's intent for a sequel by watching one of her old interviews/talks recently! Just.....more Ivan stanning resistance testing for me again whenever it does come out haha : )
@@whatpageareyouon cheers ^^ it's Demons by Dostoevsky and every character under 40 seems to have a History with this Nikolai who is a dirtbag but yeah can't say i wouldn't be the same ~
The fact that you said The Idiot was probably your favorite contemporary novel makes me want to read it so badly! Also your prompts were hilarious and so on point. Thank you for this video.
As I was talking about The Idiot here it made me nostalgic (w/out Ivan haha) so I binged some Elif Batuman interview videos and made me want to re-read it all over again! Thanks Sabrina, I hope when you get to it you love it! : )
Oh my goodness, I knew Nino would be #1 but there were still surprises along the way! Henry Tilney is 100% a fb. I want to reread it now. I found Lie With Me extremely believable, or affecting anyway. And im ashamed to say that im also a simp for Nikolai, and the actor who played him, he's a dead ringer for Ryan from The OC 😍
Such a great video idea😂😂 the idiot felt so real and relatable to me that reading about ivan made me think back to a guy i had a crush on in college and i shut the book and was like 'wait was HE a fuckboi???'
I DNF Swimming in the Dark. I suddenly got bored, and felt loss in last half of the book, but the first half is soooo beautiful. I love the Lie With Me.
finally another disappointed Swimming in the Dark reader! haha, I feel like the minority with that book. And actually since filming this vid I've been thinking of Lie With Me more and like a lot more qualities than I remember, digging more into how the idea behind both characters' relationship with sexuality attracted and distanced itself from themselves and toward one another
Your comments on War & Peace were disappointing for me as you did not mention my favorite character, Pierre Bezukhov. While I agree with your brief characterization of Nikolai, he does not impress me as being the primary character I would discuss if I was not discussing the whole novel.

You saying deadpan "haha what would you do if I was there winky face" made my day 😂
These guys really said “😂😉” then tell you something later like that they don’t read anything by women 😭
The tiers are KILLING ME.
Two minutes in and I've already LOLd like five times. THIS IS THE QUALITY CONTENT I COME HERE FOR THANK YOU
Thank you!! : )

Thank you : ) And oh boy absolutely, I even thought about Anna Karenina too and OH boy that deserves its own video entirely haha

Most literate Cry For Help EVER!
Just WAIT until I read Rooney's next book!!
That you can be so funny and so earnestly thoughtful at the same time is amazing. You are going to have to fight a lot of us for Tilney.
Thanks Hannah! And the sad thing is that Tilney would say something like "I'll make time for everybody" yadda yadda and it's all too much! haha
@@whatpageareyouon 🤪
Nino is the f boy BLUEPRINT
He’s....too good at it 😭
Omfg the video I didn’t know I needed!!!!! Any Timmy character usually fits into these tiers 😩
Omg you’re right / I can’t believe I’m gonna simp over Dune Timmy soon / I guess I like sci-fi all uh sudden now 😩
congrats, you've achieved the perfect balance of fun and articulate book-chat
thank you! : ) And nooooo don't fall for him (even though I likely would!) haha. What book is it? Your reading choices are always of interest!

Laura but what about Seth Cohen!! My siblings were team Ryan but Seth just had this unassuming F-boy energy ya know?? Haha
@@whatpageareyouon youre right, but I don't think people are ready for that conversation
I loved this video! I also adore Henry Tilney!
Thank you! If it was the other way around and Henry convinced me that my dad killed my mom I'd believe him for a sec!! haha

This is a fantastic video :)
I love the novel LIE WITH ME. It shook me to the core. Have you seen the film? cheers-js
I would have to read Lie With Me just because it was translated by Molly Ringwald.
What an inspired video concept :D
yassss toxic boys in fiction is truly top tier

Y’all must be straight
Henry Tinley really doesn't deserve to be on that list 🥲
The tier names! 😂😂
i'd let nino ruin my life anyday tbh
