"We'll never make something of this scope again"
*releases a zero gravity music video*
Still easier than what they did with this one. Plenty of people have experience with zero gravity. Hell, someone even made a music video in space.
Making a mile-and-a-half-long instrument that's played with a car and careful (but speedy) driving, and having it all come out sounding great? THAT'S a mind-boggling challenge. The coordination, choreographing, that's the easy part. Setting all of this up, figuring out how to even go about DOING this sort of thing--that's just plain pioneering.
He never said that.
@@Raptor747 watch the bts of upside down inside out
They haven't done anything of this scale sizewise. Been too busy playing with time in One Moment and Obsession
@@Raptor747 they almost showed up on their rocks, but instead they decided to bring the chevy you see in the video!
I really wanna know what the raw audio from this sounds like
watch the music video
@@Max-kv1xm *raw* audio
@@Max-kv1xm The guitars weren't even hooked up to amps, no way they sounded the same

I'd love to know just how much this all cost, the length of time it took, and the amount of people involved!
I bet it was fucking loads of everything.
Chevy kicked in 500,000$ - 1,000,000$ for the shoot. I've read it was 2 months of planning and 4 days of filming
You guys are totally and awesomely amazing! Not only is your music great, but your videos are the real deal, with real instruments, built along those roads? You're genius and absolutely mad and I love every bit of it! :-)
I need to see part 2! ...but needing is one thing...
i feel bad for those guitars...
glad I'm not the only one! Like, one they showed was a Gretsch :(
@@fabianvanderelst9643 according to their site they were all Gretsch
Their service is appreciated by making this epic video. 10 years later and I still come back to their songs and videos.
While they softly wheap
@dedzakosyo They do it strictly for the love of doing it. They're creative people, doing amazing things. They achieve fulfillment and happiness in a creative endevor. That's what they achieve.
Also, it's their music video, so, it's made to promote their music. The more awesome the video, the more people will see it, thus spreading their music more places, hopefully getting them more money and allowing them to do more insanely awesome stuff like this.
They achieve far more than most.
Damian is like guy from my dreams, perfect singer & perfect driver.
Haters will hate but I seriously like the imagination behind of it, and the song is deep too
did you not see the boom mics on the outside of the car?
they did can it in the end because otherwise it wouldn't sound good, but they did actually do it and then they edited everything in studio
This is beautiful. Awesome. Human words cannot describe how amazing this project is.
180 gretsch electromatic guitars, each with a price tag of about 650 dollars. Put those together and they used $117,000 dollars worth of guitars in this music video.
XGamertech01 I believe they auctioned them all off for a fundraising cause.
+XGamertech01 rent 100%
Returned them, they all happened to be "defective"
*Looks at truck in background of **1:22*
"This Chevrolet Super Bowl advertisement has been brought to you by... Ford trucks!"
this is like too insane... i love them so much! THEY ARE FRICKEN GENIUSES!!!
Such a waste...There are starving children that could’ve eaten those instruments!
I'll say dude. and this was far better than ANY super bowl commercial.
They should do one like this but with an airplane now!
TheRealLittleBIGhead thats impossible
...new guitar...? NEW GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???
Amazing work, thank you so much OK Go!
Fords at... 1:07 1:15 1:22 Exacly you must pause at 1:36 there is 2 some more at 1:17 in the left of the screen (half of it) AND ONE AT 1:47... So thats telling me without my fords chevy woulnt have done this videos... :P
Takes ten to fifteen years to dry out the wood to make a pro guitar. Are there no no other causes on our globe to pour such effort into? As Spock would say. Fascinating.
Sir......Welcome to UA-cam
I want to hear the raw audio from this!
To purchase 30 seconds of ad time on the Super Bowl costs between $3 and $6 million dollars. That does not include the cost of making the commercial. Google
business insider most-expensive-commercials
Channel paid $33 million for an ad with Nicole Kidman. The most expensive car add was $6.2 million for the Honda Accord Rube Goldberg commercial. According to Car and Driver, Needing/Getting costs between $550,000 and $1 million. A real bargain for pure awesomeness.
i want to know what happened to those guitars!
They sold a lot of them for charity
very cool. In hind sight a time-lapse video of the entire project would've been sweet... Maybe LOL
they've never claimed it was done in one shot or take. obviously they had to do multiple camera passes, otherwise they'd never be able to do the shots they did. it doesn't make the achievement any less impressive; clearly they did what they did. it'd be easier (and cheaper) to actually run that track than to fake it.
Actualy, im pretty sure your wrong on this one. they may have had a few takes on the diffrent parts of the track. but in the video it looks like they have three big boom mics on top of the car recording the audio. the guitars idk but i think it could be legit
Just waste of money. Good to be rich but don't waste your money like this.
@PachiLikeFrosty They were in great part sponsored by chevy, but i dont hold it against them.If all commercial were like this i wouldn't mind watching them, i would be happy becouse whoever created them was able to do so.
This is why I am a fan of OK Go on facebook. So I can see this before everyone else. Also so awesome.
right so were still pretending that the lead singer drove the course for the sound track despite it being obvious on several times in the main video that he didnt
this is damn cool, but im sorry, you didn't need to use gretsch guitars. at all. could've been some shit brand and sound the same and not wasted so much good work
But how did the doppler effect factor into this? You can't even hear it in the recording but surely there must've been some note fudging as you were driving.
1:26 "The car starts hitting them. Boom! Bah! Bush!"
And when really it starts hitting, audience should be like,
"What!? FUCK! Huh?"
final version / music is so bad I'm not even sure it was audio edited.
I found the notes to last quite long for it to be real though.
one guy has 15$ sony ndr-zx100s
Not sure if anyone replied to you yet with the answer, but I believe they signed and sold all the guitars to fans.
Who did the background music for that video? Whoever it was is like a musical genius { =P }
VU's Sweet Jane's chords over the first 20 seconds or so!
@himynameisari111 It was 280. And your perspective is all wrong. They didn't break guitars, they made music.
1:04 If you knew the spines would be white, why didn't you paint them before installing them on the track?
please more behind the scenes action on this one. It was a great video be the how to videos are just as good.
@Sven2Perroy That's an impossible request. Obviously they wouldn't have been able to keep the build - leaving it out in the middle of a desert - so they had to take it down... I mean, really?
:') we need more from you and more of you (s)
@snowyalice It's not like hundreds of thousand other are as well.
And it's indefinite that if you were working in an office space that focused on promoting OK Go, you would be get much more content and most likely meet them.
@gabenharrison thanks! now that's an answer to a question not some stupid reply without sense.
Nearly every person I showed this music video to thought is was fake, gonna show them its real
I was considering getting a Chevy Sonic a couple months ago. Didn't get one. Big mistake :(
Thumbs up if you want an aerial view of the site !
Sponsored by a crappy American car company..
they could have had cruise control or something to regulate their speed.
Even though the music video is a commercial I still like it, it has the WOW
it must piss you off whenever these trolls call "FAKE" on this huh?
Can I have one of dem guitars
You guys never cease to amaze me!
where you sponsered by chevrolet??? this is insane.
@dedzakosyo What have you achieved by posting that?
The fake part isn't the video, it's the audio. The audio from the music video is obviously recorded afterwards and overlayed. Any change in the speed of the car would change the tempo of the music, not to mention the sound coming from the guitars is through an amp. It wouldn't sound anything like that just strumming 280 guitars. Look up "Techno Jeep". They did the same thing. They recorded each individual sound, then made a song over the video. Still an awesome music video though :) Love OK GO.
I'm sorry...280 guitars? I would hate to tune all of those...
@rockhopper123452 The song is Louisiana Land - ok go
i could watch this over and over again!!
This is why I can't fail physic A level
1:47 haha i have a pair of those 15 dollar headphones
@ashhh87 where in the main video do you see this?
What did they do with all those guitars??
Ben Bird Played them???
I just realized today they didn’t do it all in one take
part two???? :(
@sasawedx i felt bad too when i saw the brand.
@CrazyGnome07 that actually sounds possible...
i see your "unpublished" video hit gizmodo heh
one word awesome
@adwagmusic i asked myself the same question.
i wonder what they did with all the guitars?
Sold them.
what would you achieve in making this???
and getting..........GETTING'S ANOTHER!
What did they do with all the guitars?
WHO PAID? And how much does it cost?
where's part 2?
they auctioned them off for charity
@dedzakosyo You are joking right?
What they meant was it wasn't all done in one take like the video would have you believe. They did multiple takes and then took the best parts and spliced them together. Editors also lined up the timing of their cues with the music. So yes, that part is "fake". But making the music from a driving car is not. No need to hate like that.
u guys are so crazy its cool
damian will you marry me?
Next: skydiving, in rhythm.
Trollers gonna troll...
How much did this cost?
I wonder how they can hold right speed...
Very cool to see a PVC instrument in this :)
how much did this cost
Sponsored by Chevy....
whats the song at 0:18
What I want to know is where they got all the guitars and materials and stuff...
but....who sponsored that video? one question remains unanswered... :-)
Seems like every video you guys do is more elaborate than the last. What will you be doing next? Something involving hanging from airplanes, I'm guessing.
PRODUCT PLACEMENT !
Sold em for charity
awesome, cleva idea
