Man, where have you been all my life?! Seriously game changing and you just lay it out in such an easy way to understand. You're an incredible instructor. Looking forward to more!
Awesome! I appreciate the incredible feedback! I've been at it for 10 years so there's a LOT of content here and on my subscription site f64elite.com Don't be a stranger! You can reach out to me via email too blake@f64academy.com
Blake whats up man thank you. You are a rock star. This technique is a game changer for me! I'm a new photographer 3 months in and this simple yet easily understood technique you are sharing connected the right dots for me. I've tried using presets in raw/lightroom, sliders, grading wheels, it takes too long! There are great techniques the other amazing youtube photographers are sharing but as a slower learner your technique helped me at my current level the most. I will certainly be working my way up your teachings here.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate you 😁 keep working at color grading, it's so much fun! Learning this stuff at 3 months in, you are going to be a rockstar in no time!
I love watching tutorials on Photoshop. I do it while cooking, relaxing, eating, retouching my own stuff, etc. I didn't watch your video as much as I listened to it, and I wanted to tell you two things: you are super-nice and your enthusiasm is contagious! I subscribed to your channel so fast, it's not even funny! lol
Thanks very much. I agree you put gradients into a whole other dimension nobody discussed before and showed the real benefit and control of the Gradient Map.
I came across and purchased your blendif and colour theory classes from a well known website. These literally made me change the way I process images. This video has now answered a question I had, using 50% grey to minimize the effect on skin tones and parts of my image. Grateful!
Hi Blake, I have follow your channel for a few years now and I have noticed how passion you get over color grading and I have learned a TON about color grading and color theory from you. Your explanation on color theory is the best! This video is your most passionate. I still struggle with color grading myself. My images never really look better when I try to change the mood through color (with the exception of portraits). I have often had a difficult time finding GOOD colors to make a gradient and usually opted for curves for color tone and to keep it simple. Quickly sampling your gradients, I can see a vast improvement over the stock gradients or any that I have created. I appreciate the gift you created for us, and I will definitely try them out in my images. Thank you so much! Look forward to more in the new year.
Thanks so much! I really am passionate about this topic. I think it is the most critical element to telling your story in the photos that you are presenting. Don't get discouraged in your process, this stuff takes time! Lots of it too, just practice, take notes, and start to associate with colors that you like. Your style will come.
Hi Blade, I just came across this tutored/video about color toning. I am just getting into color toning for stills. Still have so much to learn but by learning from people like you, it should be much easier. Nice teaching/explaining skirts. I did subscribe by the way. So thanks from Ted in Sebastian, Florida
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I am just glad I can help. Have you subscribed to my channel yet? That way you wil lget notified here in case fstoppers doesn't post one of my videos.
Yet another fantastic addition to any workflow. Time after time you manage to nail something and take it to another level. In this case it's helping to make advanced colour grading an easy to access creative tool with a process so simple and dynamic it makes you smile. Thank you for sharing this.
Brother you just earned another subscriber. Why? You're teaching not instructing. So valuable. I could quote the parable about fishing and teaching someone to fish. Evidently you have decided to teach people to fish instead of just giving instructions on removing the fish from your basket. Great stuff. Thanks.
Thanks! I really appreciate that feedback :) I spend a lot of time on the teaching aspect as I find it invaluable and I am so glad you see that :) I appreciate the incredible feedback!
Hey man I must say! Your knowledge with all this stuff is really above the average here on youtube. I really like your taste in color grading and these actions you built are outstanding. Thank you for this video and the others you have made. I know its not easy to make! All the best
This is an amazing tutorial on color grading!! I've watched other videos on this topic but could never grasp the concept. Your video tutorial was easy to understand. Thanks so much!!
I've been using gradient maps for years and didn't think I'd learn much here. You just explained in succinct detail all the stuff Ive been doing by feel and didn't quite know why! Killer video and great style of presentation!
Your video's are spectacular. Your teaching philosophy makes me think you were a teacher at one point? I have learned so much from watching your video's, thanks!!
I am just curious who are the 4 people who gave this a thumbs down? are they crazy or just mean? Love your style of teaching (I have a paid subscription to your site, you rock my friend!)
Such a simple yet powerful take on color grading. I wish i knew this from the beginning. This is drastically gonnna change my workflow. Thank you so much!
This is the second time watching this, it def makes more sense. so either the midtones, shadows, or highlights get a 50 percent gray with soft light to get a better control over how the image feels. It's pretty interesting. I am def going to try this!
this is way awesome. i used to use a lot of gradient maps but this puts real precise control on it. your videos are really informative and innovative. thanks for sharing
Thank you for the insights! This process will help me stop overcomplicating my photos (and layers) for just that added bump in color that I like in many of my photos. I truly appreciate you sharing your knowledge and "extras" for photoshop.
Hi Blake, I've just used your gradient map action and some of your gradients to colour grade some portraits and wow, so easy to use and colour grade stuff. I've stuggled with colour grading foe a long time and this will really improve my work. thank you so much.
Thats amazing! Thank you so much for clearing up some questions I had , but couldn't find the answer anywhere. Very easy to understand and thats because of your clear instructions. Thank you!!!!! I cannot wait to check out more of your tutorials.
I'm over here trying to cose tabs on my internet... then i discover this channel and have succesfully added 20 more open tabs to my internet great stuff
By the way Blake, I meant to tell you when I commented before, using the zone transition strip was quite helpful. Again, a great video, powerful technique.
Thanks so much, Blake, for an insightful video on a part of Photoshop that, for my part, has been nearly untouched while editing. I've obviously missed out on so much. I'll be using the action for sure in the time ahead. Thanks again!
another sooooo amazing tutorial and thanks for the gradients - i realy love your tutorials and espacially the creativ live bootcamp of PS brought me to the next level. thanks!!!!
Thanks for this enthusiastic tutorial ~ fortunately or unfortunately I do not and have, & have never used Photoshop 🤷🏻♂️. Instead having turned up late to the game I'm with Affinity Photo instead but even so I just thought I'd say a big BIG Thank You to you for being so keen on pushing colour, colour gradients and everything to do with how colours can change the feeling of an image. Yes I'd love you to do some tutorial's on how to carry out various colour effects using Affinity Photo 😉 but until then I'll have to try and translate as best I can. Thanks again.
ha, I finally installed Photoshop CC so i was able to add your latest Zone System Express. Was still using OG zone and color actions in CS6 lol. now you hit us with this.. nice!

Brilliant, thank you. I'm finally at a level and realise the value of colour grading .. but my efforts have been sad. Your description of soft light made the penny drop for me. And the 50%grey protection .. must rush to find a pic from the last shoot to experiment on. Thanks Again Mate :)
