The series is set 9 years after the last game, but the games/stories are all connected in different though often distant ways, and yeah it's usually about a some ignorant berk from a Vault going out into the wasteland and finding it's very, very "interesting" out there! 😆 That's actually a mutated bear called a "Yao Gaui", even more dangerous than regular bears The power armour/airship folk are the "Brotherhood of Steel" and the group defending the observatory are the "New California Republic", such factions and others, are a big thing in the games The setting is an *alternate* history, where things went somewhat different after WW2: microelectronics weren't discovered until about 2150 AD, instead they developed more advanced nuclear power, culture stagnated in the USA around 1950s, and resource wars ended up wiping out Europe and the Middle East, then finally China and USA went to war. There is a very good reason for the mutations beyond just radiation, which has led to some REALLY nasty things ;)
