Two of the most extraordinary acoustic guitarists in the world talk us through the guitars they rely on to achieve stellar performances, from Molly's custom Pre-War dreadnought to Tommy's bespoke Maton acoustic. Along the way, the duo explain how they get their stunning live sound, discussing pickup systems, setup and preferences for the guitars they bring to life on the world's great stages.
Like sitting down with two good friends who just happen to be extraordinary musicians and extremely nice people. Thanks.
2 jedi guitarist right there
CGP’s
A very beautiful old friend, who passed a few years ago, turned me on to Molly's music. There's sadness and happiness every time I hear her play.
Going to see Tommy tomorrow night (2/23/24) at the Paramount Theater in Denver. I didn't know if there was an opening performer but if there is I sure hope it is Molly. That would be a slice of heaven.
Two of my favourite people...winner!
Thank you both for sharing with us.
Two absolute Jedi Masters. Imagine picking with these two. I think the smile would last for weeks
Molly is so beautiful.
Thanks a million! Great show! 😊
A ton of interesting insights woven into a free and easy conversation! What a delight to listen to these artists.
More, more, more of these please!
Wow, so precious, beautiful, and one of a kind. Love the dreadnought guitar too!
my guitar hero and the girl i love . thank u both for everything.
I saw them live a few weeks ago in my home town in Norfolk. They were fantastic.Incredibly talented people.
Beautiful guitar, beautifully played.
What a great video. Nice job.
Molly was stellar at the Crossroads concert last September. ❤
Great music! Fabulous people! Awe-inspiring shirt!
Tommy: Legend. Molly: Legend in the making (if not already there).
Tommy, I appreciate that you have the CGP on your fretboard carrying on the tradition of Chet Atkins! Molly, love your music and recently picked up your last two CDs(Crooked Tree & City of Gold). Looking forward to seeing your concert when you're in town!
been on a concert in London Cadogan hall in January. Amazing.
Don't know why, but I just like to listen to Tommy. Whatever he is talking about. Why? I don't know. Love the guy.
Thanks for the equipment maintenance.
pointers.
I was hoping to hear Molly talk more!
This is just part of the whole interview. Molly talks quite a bit more in the other part of the interview.
A worthy statement never bring a knife to a gunfight. You both are extremely talented and easy to listen to and to watch. I say that Molly is easier on the eyes and both on the ears. Maybe sometime I can get to see both of you playing the same stage.
Looking to hear more from Molly on her guitar care...
Dang this is awesome.
Tommy and Phil Emmanuel were guitar gods in Australia. MIss Phil a brilliant player.
Yup... what a loss..
Molly is so pretty
She's lovely isn't she . Saw her in real life in Bath uk .... just wow ❤😢
Bella/Magnifico.💓💓💓💓💓💓👑
I think that when Molly refers to having heard Tommy play drums, she is referring to the fact that Tommy used to be a drummer, in fact when he was in the band Goldrush in the late 70's early 80's where his brother Phil was the lead guitarist and Tommy was the drummer. They only released one album, but it was a great album.
Goldrush changed my life..
2 legends
Molly is so gracious! Sweet
Gotta look after the tools of your trade 👍
Mr @TommyEmmanual that shirt is fire sir...
Molly has a very nice sounding guitar.
That Pre-War played by her is unreal…
MOLLY TURTLE & TOMMY EMMANUEL CAN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT.
Molly who? 😂😂
Tommy’s shirt = 🔥
Tommy's shirt game is unparalleled. Truly the blouse GOAT
wow
Awesome. Kind of surprised Molly didn't know about Tommy's gouged up makeshift scratchpad.
she probably did just making the interview more interesting
I saw these two at the apex in bury st edmunds last month, f a b u l o u s !!!
I'm laughing because I just noticed the surface of Tommy's guitar is all scratched up near the bridge. Oh, they go on and talk about it, lol. There was another video (I can't find it now) where he takes an unmarred guitar and a tool of some sort and scratches the finish up, made me cringe a bit. He does it so he can run his finger tips across the scratches and add a certain sound effect to his playing.
Saw him last year at a local theater, and going again soon. It was a cool show, a lot of energy. Saw Molly a couple of times too, also very good shows. Would like to see them together in a show.
nice opening riff by Molly.....Little Sadie by the great Doc Watson :))
💯💥‼
Beautiful Humans
molly has some AMAZING right hand strumming skills, I haven't seen anything like her right hand strumming since roy clark I spose? just phenomenal, to me anyways .. what can ya say about Tom I mean is it a dream or?
you guys are great players, less talking and more playing!
👌👌😎
Yeah Tommy and Molly they work good together.... I just let them say whatever they want and play whatever they want , no problem.
#1 CGP
I'm curious what GD lyric Molly wrote inside her guitar?
I heard he uses stainless steel frets. I'd love to know if this is true and what model he uses. Similarly, how often are frets dressed.
Molly using a banjo clawhammer technique.
Nice, Billy Strings calls Tommy a Jedi on Theo Von and now it's all over the comments. Coincidence? I think not. Tommy is the GOAT.
Takamine classical guitars feel the best in my hands !
Lol. You have inexpensive hands I guess😅
@@alan4sure Japan makes better cars and guitars than USA !
@@riobabic8960 cars, yes.
@@alan4sure but it is a good come back !
Jesus dude let her get a word in.
Jesus and Molly Magdalene
This is just part of the whole interview. Molly talks quite a bit more in the other part of the interview.
He learned a lot from the Beatles. It’s all about the entertainment.
Only people
Missing are Nancy Wilson and Billy strings.
I wonder how many people who saw what those scratches are for will now go scratch their guitars
so the WOOD is prewar.
You got it wrong Tommy..... Mahogany has that cutting/punchy sound not EIRW which is known for its warmth.
In mass production, Yes. But in a hand of master luthier, They can conduct it the way you never heard and expect for those tone wood.
Both brilliant players but honestly, I just don’t like the Maton sound. I don’t know if it’s the low action that fingerpickers like combined with undersaddle piezo, but it just always sounds tinny and splatty. Saw these two live and Molly’s tone was head and shoulders above Tommy’s…! I know they’re playing very different styles. Maton seem to like to sponsor virtuosos but I’ve never heard one and thought “ooh, gotta get a Maton”. But I’d kill for a PWGC.
Tommy has a beautiful Larrivee cutaway that sounds a lot better. Since he is Australian he likes to promote Maton( and he’s probably getting endorsements)
I know what you mean, molly has the vintage almost Martin tone
Yeah, I’ve seen Joe Robinson and Emil Ernebro playing Matons, I think they like to go after social media pickers who do a lot of flash stuff. But to be honest, same with Doyle Dykes. Incredible player. Most of his sounds awful to me. Playing those Godin multiac things that sound like a toy, or a super low action signature Guild. Buzzing and snapping all over the place.
When she says pre-war, she means pre Russia/Ukrainian war presumably, being a 2018.
No it's a guitar company.
Love Tommy. Always have. But for the love of god allow Molly an opportunity to speak… hahahah😅
This is just part of the whole interview. Molly talks quite a bit more in the other part of the interview.
Tommy replaces the jack in the guitar yearly? Lol You'd have trouble finding a simpler piece of hardware with so little to actually fail. Nothing moves inside a jack. Nothing pivots or turns. Those volume controls are far more likely to get noisy than a jack ever would wear out.
Have you ever played a plugged in guitar over who knows how many shows? Shit wears out bro.
Umm it it not a prewar dreadnought. It is made of old wood which was felled then though it is a pretty close copy, there are obvious differences. It is illegal to own Brazilian rosewood unless you can prove it was felled a long time ago-to the point of jail time in some cases.
I see how one might think it isn't a pre-war dreadnought. You're right, too!
It's a "Pre-War" dreadnought, made by the company: "Pre-War". This isn't a Martin, but they make guitars as close to the original Martin guitars from the pre-war days!
It's from the "Pre-War Guitar Company"....🙄
Merely owning Brazilian rosewood isn't a crime. Export/Import without CITES (certification) is illegal.
Sometimes I feel guitars are very sinister, they have a frequency which differs from person to person or the music you play, each guitar sounds different even if they are made by the same luthier or the same materials, you cannot measure the temperament of the instrument but unfortunately the mass factory made guitars have no credibility despite the brand.
To much of talks.
A deadhead...ugh
How lucky is she , I think
