I just completed this and there is a easier way. So you will need 2 extensions and a 7/16 socket. Take the bolt off. Take a rubber mallet and tap on the center straight up. Then tap on the left side, then tap on the opposite side. Keep doing this till it is loose. Only took me 4 taps on each side and mine was off. Way easier bc I didn’t have to have crazy long extensions or any specialty tools. To reattach the center, first put the bolt in the center hole while you have this out of the machine! Once you have the center bolt in gently put the center back into the washing machine. Try to center and start the threads so it seats properly. All this took me 20 minutes including cleanup of the tools.
This method worked for me, thank you! I have the same washer (Maytag MVWC565FW1). I first removed the bolt using a breaker bar with an extension and the 7/16 nut. Then I faced the problem with the wash plate being stuck. That's when I deployed your method with the Bosch hammer drill on hammer-only mode, using a 1/4" x 12" concrete drill bit. 1/4" is important because you want to get through the hole where the bolt was and "hammer" at the bottom.
I have the exact same washer. I used a couple air wedges I put under the rim using a weeding tool from WalMart, then gave it a couple smacks with a rubber mallet after pouring boiling hot water with some citric acid powder in the middle to free the rust.
I saw your video and thought this method was insane, then tried doing just about everything else for 3 hours and came back to this. I wound up having to slide paracord under the agitator, wrapping it around a 2x4 to keep it taught and pull up on the agitator, then I used the hammer drill and when I loosened up on the paracord I was able to jiggle the agitator loose. Not sure who designed these washers, but they didn't have the person repairing it in mind
Sprayed a lot of wd 40 in after i removed the bolt.... kept wiggling and it came off,, glad i didn't have to use or rent any other tools.. about to replace the hub with the metal hub kit..
After removing the bolt, I tried to remove the agitator and it wouldn't budge. It's exactly the same model, a maytag commercial technology washing machine. It is stuck fast and I don't have any fancy tool to losen it.
What type of drill is the red drill you first used? And what are the bits called? Sorry I’m a newbie but I have a bed sheet stuck under the agitator and a manual nut driver isn’t working.
Yes you are right most these transmission rust out on the shaft and won’t grab the hub. There are plenty people that would rather replace hub and get out of there I have seen it many times
Because I’m pushing down into the center hole 90%of time we replaced the transmission once you have to replace hub you can see how worn the transmission threads are u have to remove it either way This technique gets u a quick complete that or try the belt and air bag method
On this unit the splines were not worn but I get you in most cases we change out the transmission this technique just eliminates having to use the belt or strap method or breaking it to shreds
Keep on doing the bag method this is easier when your swapping a transmission or the hub either way these transmissions are shit you’ll end up replacing it in future
Well I don’t do it that way. I have only had to change out transmission 3 times after I changed out drive Hub assembly kit. And I have changed the hub kit over 250 times. But I understand if the transmission gears Are worn then down then I understand. I hope you have good one
Great. I've wasted so much life on what should be a 30 second video. Slow Bobby here has to show video of just stupid people at work as a "teachable moment". LEARN TO GET TO THE POINT, Slow Bobby....

This is the exact washer video i was looking for. Exact same washer. Thanks
I did a 11 MM socket with 2 8 inch extension and got my garment free that was stuck. But this video was helpful. Thank you
So basically if you don’t have a 2 foot extension you’re screwed. Good to know 🙃
You also should have an impact driver, because those bolts are on TIGHT.
I said the same damn thing.. cuz right now, I’m screwed 😂
Or four 6 inchers. 😆
Harbor freight sells a combo set for like 20 bucks and it comes with the 24 in one.
@@andybsideso many dirty jokes are coming to mind but UA-cam keeps slapping them down lol
IF YOU DONT HAVE A CONCRETE DRILL USE A HAMMER ON THE BACK OF THE EXTENSION PIECE
1-2 gallons boiling water , pour it in slowly then pull with shoe lace came right off
Nice I’ll try that 😂
Where did you attach the shoe lace?
@@jaytodd5809Around the plate like a piece of floss
Got it off in 30 seconds with a Milwaukee 1/2 Inch Impact. I also used same impact in the video too but didn’t have enough torque obviously.

Use a hammer drill dewalt if u have one and a long bit and put in hammer mode
@@ApplianceRep thanks .. I 'll try that out.
@@ApplianceRep it will vibrate it loose right???
@@ScantPear as long as u in hammer mode yes it vibrates it loose
@@ApplianceRep ah
Thank you for this post. If you please show us how to calibrate it after. And thank you. I have the same model MVWC565FW0. Help needed please
i can't even get past the bolt..either nothing fits it or it's just spinning freely
11mm socket works like a charm.
So how in the hell does that drill bit on hammer mode not damage the threads
Thank you for this video very helpful
What type of drill is the red drill you first used? And what are the bits called? Sorry I’m a newbie but I have a bed sheet stuck under the agitator and a manual nut driver isn’t working.
Milwaukee 3/8 stubby with 7/16 bit and a Bosch hammer drill with 1/4 concrete bit set to hammer mode
What happened to the threads once that was done?
That’s a problem if the threads are destroyed
what happens to the agitator . is it trash now
I have a Maytag bravos, and the agitator is not tall enough. Can I get a taller agitator to fit?
After that u will need a new transmission/ whirlpool tech 25 years experience
Yes you are right most these transmission rust out on the shaft and won’t grab the hub. There are plenty people that would rather replace hub and get out of there I have seen it many times
What socket did you use and extension
How does it not mess up the threads for the bolt
Because I’m pushing down into the center hole 90%of time we replaced the transmission once you have to replace hub you can see how worn the transmission threads are u have to remove it either way
This technique gets u a quick complete that or try the belt and air bag method
There has to be some kind of trick to get these things off. This cannot be how it is supposed to be done.
There are many ways like the air bag method or the belt method or just breaking it to pieces
Is the bolt reverse thread or is is Lefty lossey righty tighty?
Lefty loosy
What if the bolt doesn’t come off using the impact drill
Use penetrating oil use impact drill 12volts or higher
I wouldn’t use an impact just use a regular 3/8 ratchet with a 7/16 socket and the extension I have is 18” a year to late but either way .
cual es la direccion del DRILL ...left or right to unscrew the screw
Left
The splines are not worn…
On this unit the splines were not worn but I get you in most cases we change out the transmission this technique just eliminates having to use the belt or strap method or breaking it to shreds
Ok but mine has a cap where you just put that drill so how do I get that cap off!!!!? Ugh!? Lol
Lift cap off with a flat blade you’ll see the bolt you’ll need to remove
@@ApplianceRep thank you!!
The 7/16 is not a technique it’s how we remove the agitator…
You drilled out the gear case?
Just hammered down never went through
@@ApplianceRep what size of drill bit you used?
@@MyKaylay 1/4 concrete bit
Man I am trying this and it’s not working; I don’t even understand what you’re hitting?
Straight down
How not to do this task.
Keep on doing the bag method this is easier when your swapping a transmission or the hub either way these transmissions are shit you’ll end up replacing it in future
do not try this its BS
It actually works if your changin out the transmission those maytag metal corrode faster than the ones 20 years ago
WTH
🤣🤣🤣
That’s not a real agitator.
You didn’t even finish the video of repair thumbs down
My camera broke buddy this you tube stuff is hard 😂
Well
