    A friend of my husband's lived through Sarajevo. The advice from him that always sticks with me is to stay stocked on spices, because after a while people will give almost anything for some flavor to add to the little food they could find. Pepper was, as the phrase goes, worth its weight in gold.

    Isn't it fascinating how the concept of 'evil' can vary so drastically across different historical periods and cultures? What may have been considered evil in one society might have been seen as completely normal in another. It really highlights the importance of understanding the context and the nuances of history

      I think social practice affects it. Like in India, how suttee was accepted as a wife being good,but then in other cultures, it was women murder. Or look up different rites of adulthood varies too

    Partition was not just made up by British as they left India. Jeez!
    What happened was at the 11th hour before independence was scheduled, the Muslim leaders announced they did not want to be living in a Hindu dominated India. Perhaps worried by the likes of Gandhi who's vision of India was entirely Hindu ruled and a "village" based society
    So the British drew up borders for Pakistan, which took in the Muslim majority east and west fringes of the Raj.
    The violence that occurred was entirely Muslim on Hindu and vice versa. The Muslims had enjoyed privileges under the British and they didn't fancy losing them under ppl like Gandhi ( who was not quite the saint he's made out to be).. Pakistan itself would fracture in 1971. The East Pakistanis broke away ( with Indian help) after a genocide by the West Pakistani army.. creating Bangladesh.
    None of this was the fault of Great Britain .

    You left out the Inquisition in Europe. More than one, but they had the same goal. Forced conversion and the elimination of independent thought - especially of women. Spain was so good at it, they had their own. So while the Aztecs were sacrificing people, so were the Spanish and other europeans. The Aztecs put on a more gruesome show, but that's all.

    • @RayyanKesnan
      @RayyanKesnan 11 місяців тому

      I'm not even gonna watch this if they said the Aztecs...Aztec sacrifice was at least enemy combatants. Read any description of life in Europe before 1700 and you'll wish you lived anywhere else. Thanks for saying this, usually I'm making these comments and I'm tired of it 😂

    • @RayyanKesnan

      Not to mention the invention of the most destructive concept in human history - racial inferiority. Discrimination has always existed in some form, but the idea that your genetics make you inherently inferior or superior did not. A lot of people trace that idea back to the "purity of blood" ideology developed in the Spanish Inquisition to separate recent Christian converts (people from historically Jewish or Muslim background who they blamed for the degeneration of society) from longtime Christians. For the first time in human history, your genetic origins actually made you a different type of being from other humans.

      @RayyanKesnan whoa does that suddenly makes it alright? 😂😂😂Also no, While some sacrifices did involve captured warriors from other tribes, many sacrifices were performed using individuals from various backgrounds, including Aztec citizens that were not of a warrior class, slaves, and even children.

    • @RayyanKesnan
      @RayyanKesnan 11 місяців тому

      @@albertbecerra Ok. Sacrifices of Aztec citizens were actually not really enforced, and many were voluntary. Who cares? Nobody is debating right or wrong here. Why are you so bothered?

    • @albertbecerra

    On the Indian split, it was caused by Nehru demanding a separate Muslim state and the Muslims wanted a separate state. Mountbatten caused deaths by his lines being quickly made, but Indian independence was not planned, it was forced in 1947, and Mountbatten is a fall guy, but Muslim and Hindu intolerance of each other and refusal to have a United India tolerating each other beliefs is the issue. Muslims and Christians are still mistreated in India and non Muslims in Pakistan are mistreated.

      No it’s not true. The divide and rule policies introduced in india made both religions intolerant of each other. It was Mohammed Ali Jinnah who asked for a separate homeland

    • @englishalan222
      @englishalan222 8 місяців тому

      Mountbatten did not cause a single death. There is absolutely no reason the participation could not have gone off peacefully the fault that it did not was the fault of the Indians and the Indians alone. The British did not tell them to behave like animals, they did that themselves. As for divide and rule India was divided before the British got there. Hindus and Muslims were killing each other for hundreds of years.

    Leviticus 10
    Names of God Bible
    Improper Conduct for Priests
    10 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu each took an incense burner and put burning coals and incense in it. Then in Yahweh’s presence they offered this unauthorized fire. 2 A fire flashed from Yahweh and burned them, and they died in the presence of Yahweh.
    3 Moses said to Aaron, “This is exactly what Yahweh said:
    ‘I will show my holiness among those who come to me.
    I will show my glory to all the people.’”
    Aaron was speechless.
    4 Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Aaron’s uncle, Uzziel. He told them, “Come and take your relatives away from in front of the holy place. Take them outside the camp.” 5 So they came and took them away to a place outside the camp, as Moses told them. The dead men were still in their linen robes.
    6 Moses told Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar: “Do not mourn by leaving your hair uncombed or tearing your clothes. If you do, you will die and Yahweh will become angry with the whole congregation. All the other Israelites may cry over the fire Yahweh sent, but you may not. 7 You must not leave the entrance to the tent of meeting or else you, too, will die, because Yahweh has anointed you with his oil.” They obeyed Moses.

    Interesting video and really well researched! But yeah, the Aztec sacrifice numbers definitely aren't accurate. They had a very complex society and people need to chill on the sacrifice stuff. There's so much beauty that gets overlooked because of sensationalizing the sacrificial aspects. They had universal education, incredibly clean streets (compare to europe where people walked in sewage and there were "poor holes", mass graves of dead people in the middle of towns) environmental sustainability and preservation of animal and plant life, not to mention the social and community values at local levels. I'm not a big fan of the Aztecs cause they were a militant and hierarchical society and they did sacrficie a lot of people.

      You seem to be enjoying the benefits of that western culture though?

      Uh, yeah. That's kind of why the Aztecs fell apart. Every other group they'd been terrorizing and sacrificing for ages joined with the Spanish.

      @haydenhall4541 you might be confusing necessity with enjoyment....there's no where you can go that doesn't have a western impact..

      @Boyboy20116 not to mention the thousands of pointless wars fought in Europe over land for wealthy royals. Guess who they had fight those wars? Mostly the poorer countrymen.
