Classic WoW Forbidden Items

- Hello guys, and welcome to the first part of what will likely be a video series where we look at different special pieces of gear from Classic World of Warcraft.
“Special” is a very broad term, but the focus of today’s video will be what I have dubbed “forbidden items”. Those are items with profession, race or class restrictions that do not make sense or at least they are very questionable in most cases.
The term “forbidden” is used slightly ironically as if Blizzard had some darker and more evil motives for restricting and limiting the use of those items. They probably did not, and the items are most likely just the result of early design experimentation, but they are still all unique in different ways, and a lot of interesting points can be made about them. Additionally, they open up for some fundamental item design questions that I am sure the original Blizzard team discussed when developing Vanilla World of Warcraft.

@@ventu7907 Its was renamed in TBC due to its unfortunate name being used in trade chat spam.
Lots of talk about the nicker and bikes going missing or mother's being slayed ect.

A small note: Phytoblade means blade made from plants. I see the herbalist profession pretty fitting for such a weapon and quest line.
The weapon has some pretty cool flavor, I agree.

Makes me wish Professions had more quests related to them for items that only they can use, but given by the trainers so those unique items are harder to miss for the profession player but out of the way from everyone else that has no use for such things.
Yeah, I agree with you. I think that would be very cool. It would give the professions more flavour, and I think you could design a lot of cool items that way. It would also give people more incentives to level professions.
It's a bit silly that profession restrictions were used so rarely. I think it would be really cool if there were more such items; if it was a common thing, then it would be a neat feature and another consideration to make while leveling. But since it's so rare, it comes across as an experiment that they abandoned and forgot about.
I definitely agree. It would be cool if they had gone all in on the idea of having more profession specific gear at all levels and in different parts of the game. I think it's something that could be implemented nicely, but you would have to do it the right way as well.

I really like the idea behind phytoblade and I think it would be cool if they ran with that. Imagine if there were certain specific items that if you had the right class / profession combo you would specifically go for that item. Eg a special 'potion' off hand for alchemists only, or a 1h blacksmithing themed hammer weapon that has a sunder effect. Would be really flavourful and add some coolness to unsexy proffesions
I like the idea a lot as well, and I think it could be implemented in a good way. It would give a lot more flavour to the professions like you say. I don't think there should be a massive amount of those items everywhere, but it could be exciting to see some more than those who are in the game already. I definitely think there's a lot of potential there.

the goblin smasher could be a remnant from the Totem weapon that was planned to be only usable by taurens only. There are a few items that have remnants from development time, like the chain, leather and cloth cloaks, that remains only in name. or the shield vs Bucklers
I didn't know that taurens were supposed to have totem weapons, but that's pretty interesting. Since it is the only race specific weapon in the game, the Goblin Smasher might be some kind of remnant from that past design idea. I like the theory.

Many EQ items were class restricted. That's probably where they got the idea for class only items from.
That's interesting - I didn't know that. That could very well have inspired them.

Hello - it is called "Drums of War" and it is not public. If you search for "create your own vanilla server" on UA-cam you should find some guides.
I remember wanting to use the Phytoblade so bad when I first finished that quest back then but I couldn't because I was Mining/Engineer. Too bad I never ran into the Digmaster 5000 but I could never get groups to finish Uldaman anyways lol. Any item that had a bonus effect seemed so cool back then.

I have to rebuke you about The Shoveler. Yes the WW weapons are better, but they're meant to be done by a group of ~lvl 40s. Just because you can do it at lvl 30 doesn't mean that's the intention; you can actually enter Molten Core from BRD at *lvl 50.*
Yeah, you are right. The thing is, it almost seems like the norm to get the Whirlwind Axe at level 30 so I always have that in the back of my mind when I'm comparing warrior weapons around those levels.

I do kind of like the idea of there being profession specific items and equipables found through quests or drops. If they are more thematic anyway. I mean there technically are loads of very profession based items in the game already, they just don't require profession skills to use. Like the unique skinning knife that is the only way to be able to skin Onyxia for her scales etc.
I definitely agree with you to a certain extent. I like the idea since it makes professions matter much more, and I think you can design a lot of cool, "profession themed" items. At the same time I think you would have to be consistent and implement some items for all the professions. I wouldn't want tons of those items everywhere, but it would be cool to see how the game would look with a bit more than those who are already in. Your comment about profession specific items that don't require any profession skill to use is interesting - those are a special breed as well.
@@moegdalswowvideos6800 I was just thinking like 1 weapon and 1 piece of armour for each profession. On top of all having unique effects and decent stats they'd alll also give +10 to their respective professions when equipped. So always worth looking for.
@@moegdalswowvideos6800 like could have herbalism items be a trowel and gardening gloves, mining you'd have a miners helmet and a pick axe, though I guess some professions are harder than others, like what items could you give for inscription or enchanting?
@@Noobie2k7 Yeah, I think there's a lot of potential to design some awesome items, but you're right that it's probably easier for some professions than other. Judging from the items in the video it seems like Blizzard had the idea somewhat, but they didn't implement it fully at all.

It still seems to get weirder every time I hear about Shadowcraft Boots originally having Intellect and not Agility.
It's quite weird, but they were changed quickly in patch 1.3 a few months into 2005 so the intellect version didn't last long.

I love your content, but i did not raid since WotLK. Can you make a raid guild, not like use this spell for him, that gear for that? I need a basic guide for raiding, something like: bindings locked, loot FFA and so on... I don't know what all that means. I didn't found a video with that content. Bindings are for the quest for thunderfury the legendary sword. The reason they are locked is because they are usually reserved for tanks or high ranking members of the guild
That's interesting - I haven't thought of making such a video where I explain stuff like raiding terminology. It might be something I'd consider in the future with the release of new raids or maybe even Classic TBC. Glad you enjoy the content - Vielen Dank :)

Hehe, the Digmaster is very rare, but it's not as good as the Pendulum of Doom for example. I don't know how high the demand is, and what prices it is sold at :D

Man when me and my friends were leveling the digmaster 5000 dropped and we had no idea how rare it was! The person who won it had a hard time sellng it for 5g
Oh man, hehe. It certainly is rare, and I don't think the weapon is that bad either. 5g seems like a low price for such a cool item, but I guess the mining requirement limits the demand as well :D

I didn't even know! I guess the spell crit could actually be good for them unlike hunters, rogues and warriors who can't use it either?
Potentially brokenly so. Healing crits are free for paladins, so this is like a greater than 2% increase to their mana efficiency... the closer to 100% you get the closer you get to literally never going out of mana.

"Classic WoW Restricted Items" they are not "forbidden" in any way shape or form they are simply restricted by race/class/profession :)
That would have been a more descriptive title, probably, but I liked "forbidden" more and I think the use of the word is fair. After all, "forbidden" doesn't have to mean that something can't be used by anyone at all.
@@moegdalswowvideos6800 by all means its your video and you should do as you please with it :) just my understanding and impression of the word "Forbidden" is that its something that is not allowed or banned. meaning no one can use or own a "forbidden item" it would be like having a cheat code or exploit at your exposal breaking tos :)
