    Great catches in some hilly areas. Where I am its all flat being on the old New York Central Water Level Route

      Thanks! Well, railfanning the Water Level Route must be also very cool!

      @@mbmars01 It is, the CSX and NS mainlines here are 1/4 to 1/2 mile from Lake Erie

      I expect it must be very busy up there. Can you send some of your trains down south ;)

      I know, these shots are amazing. This is simply a cool location. It's actually one of my favorite spots on this line.

    I like that bump at the crossing at 18:25. That train was movin! Didn't have long to wait for a video this time.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 роки тому

      Since this is a long shot, I didn't see the train bumping when I filmed it, but when working on the video I saw it, too. Sometimes, I'm glad I don't see the sideways movements when I'm on location, because they would scare me lol.

    Excellent production (of course). What a lovely shot that is at 12:10. I really do think some of the greatest unsung heroes are the conductors who hang on to the end of the train while they shove backwards, sometimes for miles.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 роки тому

      Thanks so much! Really appreciate it. I know, it sometimes scares me to see them hanging there and their only contact is the engineer via radio, sometimes a mile away.

    Very nice compilation of catches! The hills make for the perfect scene of grunt & power!

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 роки тому +3

      Thanks! Absolutely. Even though CSX trains tend to look very similar nowadays, different spots offer great perspectives, though. And the setting sun shining onto the nose of a GEVO - well I like that!

    Great action shots. You really show the hilly terrain. Excellent video as usual.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 роки тому +1

      Oh yeah. The last train almost stalled at the steepest hill in the area, Bogart Hill, where I saw him crawl at about 5 mph - very much to the fun of the people waiting at the rail crossing lol. Great you like the video!

  • @wolfgang548
    @wolfgang548 3 роки тому

    8:55 - Looks like a wild roller coaster ride for train crews passing through that location.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  3 роки тому +1

      It looks a bit more dramatic in the zoom shots, but the grades are there and more than once heavy trains have struggled getting over these hills.

    • @wolfgang548
      @wolfgang548 3 роки тому

      @@mbmars01 I wonder how many knuckle breaks they go through in those areas.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  3 роки тому

      It happened all the time in the past... Now it's not so bad anymore, but there also fewer trains running.

    Great catches..up one hill down the other! The mixed freight was really "hauling the mail"!!

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 роки тому

      Thanks, Mike. That's right, always up and down along the entire line. I think he had to make up time. He almost stalled earlier. Those CSX people who make the assessment how much power is needed do not always seem to be ahead of the curve when it comes to adding topographic specifics to the equation.

    You weren't alone, when the first two trains went past you. There's a couple on the other side of the track. It's good to see others like the SE Hull location too. I love the nifty ET44 and the midtrain helpers. These are cool long trains and you captured them very nicely. Another quality update, thank you for your effort. :)

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 роки тому +1

      Right, there were some kids and a police cop, but nobody bothered me. It's true, I also really like these shots. It's difficult to get them in decent quality, so when I'm filming I never really know what it looks like on a big screem. Only at the production stage, the quality reveals itself.

    I see the crew of 704 is enjoying the air conditioning (the door being open) - though I would think it has A/C in the cab. Just great things here - the meet, the chatter, the trains :)

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 роки тому +1

      Yes CSX units have A/C, unless it malfunctioned. When I watc hed the "final product" by myself I also thought there's really a lot in it. I still can't get over that long shot close to the end. I haven't filmed on this side of Harper Siding in a while. I just love it :)
