The owner or authorized agent of the property has the authority. Security guards follow the orders of the person who has the authority. Which means they aren't "officers". They came up with the "security officer" to make it sound more professional as well as not discourage people from working such jobs as security guards have always had a bad rep.
They did the same thing for prison guards by changing their title to correction officers. Except correction officers actually hold an official position of authority.

I loved when you said “with a little bit of deescalation and a little patience…” I think what you’re doing is such important work to help ensure that our rights are maintained and respected. However, there are far too many 1A auditors that escalate things and get extremely rude and belligerent and they’re not helping the cause by doing that. We’re always asking law enforcement to deescalate yet some of these auditors just seem to want to provoke LEO’s and that’s not helpful. I appreciate that you remain respectful yet assertive.
