    A couple things to consider that I did not mention/ needed correcting:
    1. The Hydrow actually only weighs 145 lbs - the 197 was the BOXED weight when it arrives at your doorstep!
    2. Both machines have subscription costs ($38/mo Hydrow, $29/mo Ergatta) and require electrical outlets and wifi to function!
    3. Both machines have excellent rowing tutorials for the TRUE beginners!
    4. Ergatta has a "Race" mode that I neglected to mention here, but will be making a separate video about.
    5. Hydrow has milestone prizes like water bottles, socks, and other awesome swag that you can earn from rowing!!

      Hi Austin watching your videos and now I want a rower! Was teetering between that and a peloton and your vids convinced me. BUT now the question is which one?! I also see a NordicTrak rw900 and Avrion and a cityrow.
      Help!!! I’m a beginner in every sense of the word -like only ever jumped on one at the gym to play the shark game. I like BOTH features of hydrow and ergatta in that the game idea motivates but def like classes/music. Is there one you could recommend that has both aspects for a beginner(whispers: and also looks pretty)? Thanks!

    The 'learn how to row' intro courses are a huge deal on the Hydrow. Walking through how the stroke breaks down is massively important. Since the trainers were on or a former national team members, they really are the best of the best at making sure you're doing it correctly.
    Flailing about quickly is a sure fire way to an injured back.

    Couple things from a Hydrow owner (so obviously I'll be biased) from the video
    a) There is an assessment row that's results are supposed to guide you for the actual workouts with max vs sprint vs run vs jog vs walk pace. They're fairly informative but not always perfect depending on your rowing style (e.g. my endurance isn't as great as my power, so I can do a little better than my prescribed sprint pace for some workouts), so it is up to you to make sure you get the most out of each workout. I haven't found this that challenging, and often times get a really great workout in even on days where I'm not "feeling it," which is probably the biggest reason I'm glad I purchased a Hydrow.
    b) I wouldn't have anticipated how much I enjoy the "Live Outdoor Reality" i.e. on the water aspect of the Hydrow. It is really visually pleasing and makes rowing a lot more enjoyable for me (a person who sits inside for work all day, and can take "trips" to Miami or California during the winter).
    c) The inability to create your own workouts is definitely a bummer, especially not even doing a set distance. But for the few months I've had a Hydrow, they've added a lot of updates so that may be possible in the future. The inability to output workout results into excel or something is another platform to do your own analysis is a bummer, but they are a startup and I know a lot of people have requested that info, so could be on the roadmap.
    d) The leaderboard aspect of the Hydrow combined with the online community really adds to the experience. From the different facebook groups, you get to know a lot of the people you see in the different workouts, and can challenge and compete with each other with a little extra camaraderie, I obviously don't know the extent to which that exists with the Ergatta.
    As sleek as the Hydrow is, man does that Ergatta look cool.
    Sorry for commenting on all your Hydrow videos, I'm just a huge advocate for their product!

    • @ziggymac1488
      @ziggymac1488 3 роки тому +2

      Dan you mentioned that you need to do an assessment row. So is the Hydrow locked into one person or can other people of the household do there own assessment and use it and save there stats etc...

    • @DPAFLESHER
      @DPAFLESHER 3 роки тому +4

      @@ziggymac1488 Yeah, you have multiple profiles for your machine - for mine, we have mine, my girlfriends, and a guest account. I'm not sure if there's a limit to the number of profiles. What's nice is that we can independently earn our "rewards" - so when I hit 100,000 meters, I got a water bottle, and then when my gf hit 100,000, she got a water bottle as well.
      And you don't HAVE to do the assessment row, it's just a convenient way to estimate your max vs sprint vs run vs jog vs walk paces.

    I have the Hydrow. I think it’s worth mentioning you can choose workouts by using filters. You can pick what athlete you want to train with along with duration; and how hard you want to work out (breathe; drive or sweat). It also has racing and you can have multiple rower profiles. It has a progress screen so you see every row , heart rate , your split, meters etc. There is a community within as well as a place to comment and make suggestions directly to Hydrow from your screen on every workout. There is more but my new favorite feature is rowing with Kevin Hart who is their new spokesperson and they are now adding rowing sessions with him. Great fun. I am addicted to this machine and so happy I purchased it

    Great video Austin! Just my 2 cents. I am not an avid rower or even someone who likes cardio in any form. I have been bodybuilding and powerlifting off and on my whole life and have only ever done steady state cardio to lose weight when cutting. But I AM an avid gamer and have been since the original cassette computers and the Atari 2600. I bought the Ergatta a few months ago because my gyms shut down due to covid and I was getting so fat-LOL! I can say that this may have been the single best exercise equipment I have ever purchased! I'm not only in much better shape but I my cardio endurance has not been this good since I was in my late 20's, early 30's (I'm 53). I have no experience with any other type of rowing machine but if you are a gamer (and competitive) and looking for a workout like no other-the Ergatta is a quality piece of machinery that really will whip you into shape.

    I own a physical therapy rehabilitation clinic. One thing I've noticed over the last 21 years in business. Any seat that has enternal wheels that are between the metal tracks or cradled in the sides of the tracks get chewed up over time. You got to tear apart the machines to replace wheels.and this is on recumbent bikes. And these wheels once set up don't have to move during the exercise. The rower is constantly moving. Trust me you know it when a wheel goes out.
    The water rower seat from what I've witnessed on your channels the seat lifts off. And to me that's a huge pluss just incase I need to fix or replace a wheel.
    Do you have to replace parts and which one gets warm out over time on both of these machines?

However, be aware/advised, as a recent cash purchaser that took advantage of the Black Friday sale, was disappointed to learn the day after and a few days after, they added over $300+ in extra equipment for the same purchase. This is great for those who procrastinated, but for me; customer service and sales should have made one aware. I guess I remember the old days of brick and mortar store integrity.
    It squarely falls on me and I look forward to the workouts and use [and hopefully weight-loss and conditioning] and I hope it gives me years of good service as I am now concerned Customer Service is just a 'refusal' department...I'll update on the equipment but honestly believe it will be great! Anyway, I'm also concerned that being short and overweight having my feet close together like on the Ergatta would bother my knees. So I'm leaning toward the Hydrow.

      The Ergatta does have Scenic Row, which uses actual videos. The selection is limited, however.

    I would like to see an in depth feature comparison between the Hydro and the Aviron.

    Very happy learning about rowing machines as my running one broke and now have to look for alternatives. Excellent explanation of the pros and cons of both products. Thanks for your work!

    Austin, can you challenge a friend to a workout or workout with a friend in real time?
    I'm leaning toward Ergatta, based on the terrible customer service reviews I've seen on Hydrow website.

    This is very helpful!, have been looking at rowers for months. And the avocado socks are spot on! Question: Ergatta subscription says you can have unlimited profiles under one account (good for family of 5), do you happen to know about Hydrow subscription profiles? The iFit (nordic track only allows 4)

      Hydrow offers as many profiles as you’d like, as well!

    Just got Concept 2 model D delivered yesterday (bought straight from Concept 2), putting the difference of the money to buy Peleton stocks :P Oh, you and DH Rowing are motivation enough; thank you.

      For Concept2 users (and any other wireless-enabled rowing machine), there is an app-that-connects option called Regatta (www.teamregatta.com). It's closer to Hydrow's coached workouts but the coach is on the same machine teaching in a studio not on the water in a boat.

    Now that I've watched the review on both these machines I'm still happy that I ended up going with the Aviron rowing machine, go check it out if you are still deciding which rower is right for you!

      Do you need a subscription for the Aviron? Product looks great but their website doesn't explain much.

      If you haven't decided on a rower yet I would go check out Aviron rower, it's the one I went with and after seeing this review I'm still very happy I chose the Aviron!

    I understand that there's a hefty "subscription fee" for these machines. Why don't you elaborate on that?

    • @trainingtall
      @trainingtall  3 роки тому

      Sure! I mentioned that in the description box!
      But Hydrow I believe is $38/mo and Ergatta is $29/mo

      $30 to $40 a month? WTH, I could get a gym membership for that. For that price they should give you the rower for free

    Ergatta. I dont like boats and that hydrow looks like a boat. I row on ground not on boats 😎 Get that shit outta my face. Please nobody bring up the irony that rowing is done on a boat or ill puke 🤢
