    The Hydrow is a rowing machine that allows you to race others. I've had the Hydrow Rower for about three months now. I've used it for HIIT and longer, steady state rows. I've also used pretty much every rower on the market.
    Today, I review the Hydrow and compare it to competitors like Concept2 and other smart home gyms like Tonal, Peloton, and Mirror.
    Is Hydrow cheap? No. But is it good? Yes. Very good. Let's discuss.

  • @عزامالزهرانيزهران

    Separating out the specific parts and tools for each of the seven step assembly process steps was brilliant on the part of the manufacturer. For the price, I am impressed at how sturdy this ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxvObaTzoHoHQLL4lHbJQmExHqsrZQm-f7 unit is and it does go together easily. Well, I was puzzled at first at Step 5 and maybe the instructions should mention that rail #62 needs to be tilted upwards a little to get the rail to fit into the main part #44. I like it that the rower can be stored vertically in a really small amount of space, but be forewarned that this rower is top heavy and for safety you'll need at least two bungee cords to keep the unit upright, attaching them to something; in my case to a third garage door. I have had this unit only a short time, and I will post an update once I've had it for a year. As for working your legs, I have to admit that I'm mainly rowing for upper body strength and I use other forms of exercise for leg strength (like walking fast, biking, or using a trampoline. But if you pull as far forward as possible, then you can give preference to your legs for the first 4 feet or so of travel. I also admit to not taking the two electronic connectors apart at Step 7. I simply inserted the two batteries while the other parts remained connected. By the way, there is plenty of resistance here, even in the lowest resistance settings. Kudos to Sunny Health & Fitness !

      There is a lady who posted a video from 2 months ago saying you can row without an account “just row mode”, but can’t program your rows, nor participate in the classes/videos. I guess that mode will show distance, s/m, heart rate etc. I bought one last weekend and had to go out of town the following day, so I didn’t activate my account. That $38/month subscription leaves a worse taste in my mouth than the $2,200 price, you're basically leasing it. I won't pay a subscription for a piece of gym equipment unless it cooks, cleans and mows my lawn. It takes up more room than a squat rack and is far less versatile, this is really a vanity piece for people with lots of spare bedrooms.

    Seems like a product for an entirely different market. For the people who just want to "get on and row" they've got plenty of options, the best of which is already pretty well established as Concept2. This is definitely a high end product geared toward people willing to spend the money on the external motivation. It's a gorgeous machine with classes that make you want to use it (or at least hate it a little less). They're going to continue to charge people for the motivation because people will continue to pay for it.

I owned so many PTONs that they could never deliver an actual working bike that lasted more than 1 year. Good and honest review here- nice job on that. As far as this rower is concerned, I’ll pass… it has limited functionality without a subscription (and even less functionality if not plugged in and connected to the internet), it’s very expensive to start with, can’t disassemble it into two manageable pieces, and it also looks like it uses a belt instead of a chain attached to the rowing handle. I currently have a Concept 2 Model D… it cost me $900 (not incl shipping) about a year ago, is basically bullet-proof, needs no plug or internet, has no add’l subscription you need to purchase for full functionality, and offers pre-defined and custom workouts with the built-in PM5 monitor. To each his (or her) own of course… but the Concept 2 is the real deal for me.

    A way around the high price tag and expensive membership? Yes there is. I bought a Stamina X water rower which has a holder for an Ipad. Then I bought a Hydro App subscription from the Apple app store which is about much less monthly than the built-in hydro app. Around $22 vs $38/mo. Pros: Stamina X is a water rower which I prefer, it is very smooth and sounds like you are on the water, I have access to all the recorded and live classes, $700 rower instead of $2500 hydro, and no electronics that will go bad (I just switch out the Ipad). I can take the Ipad off and just use the included data screen. Cons: I have no onscreen data when using my Ipad. Instead I just match the pace of the onscreen coach but that is easy to do. I can't compete against other rowers (but I don't care, you might), I don't think I can earn the same accolades and awards as someone in their machine system.

    Are there any growers that offer the scenic experience without the trainer in front of you? lol. I don’t mind a coaching voice, but I don’t want a random person in front of me. I would love just a pure scenic viewing experience

    It’s true, I kinda want to buy this one but I really don’t need that screen in front of me since I use prescription glasses from very bad eyesight from having screen brightness on electronic devices all the way up in the past, so for that reason I don’t wanna spend all that money on it, I really don’t care about the screen. I think I’m gonna have to go for the concept 2

    Is that like a 720p-otato screen? Maybe it's just the camera recording, but I can see too many pixels for something you're supposed to keep staring at and watching.

    When will you do a on water rower?!

  • @gambonelaw
    @gambonelaw 3 роки тому

    You are "smoking" other rowers because anyone who is a half descent rower/athlete is using a Concept 2. Anyone who wants to improve as a competitive rower or as cross fit athlete isn't using this Machine. This is the Smith Machine of rowers and for $38/month ($456) ( along with initial cost (2,500), you are better off with a Concept 2 ($900) and spending the difference on upgrading a rack, a bar, an adjustable bench and plates

  • @TigerCarpenter
    @TigerCarpenter 3 роки тому

    yes it IS expensive but I don't mind spending money for something of the top quality and long lasting. I even bought a custom made barbell to the exact specs I designed, and I paid for it few times more than an average barbell, but it feels good. it even has my laser engraved logo on the shaft and on the aluminum end caps. how cool is that?
    people ask me hey what brand is that? well just read the bloody laser engraving. it's my own brand. and it is fully stainless steel, and has bronze + graphite self lubricating bushings, my own knurling pattern etc
    so
    would I spend USD2.5k on Hydrow? absolutely.
    but like you said, even though I can afford the USD38 membership, I refuse to do it. I like to feel like a free man. and this kind of tricks make me feel like a slave, and I will NEVER buy it for that particular reason.
    also I don't want to use classes mode for the whole life. I just want to jump on it and row to my own selection of music.
    so the conclusions are:
    I will buy it when they "unlock" it for non-members and allow generic rowing = no classes. I don't even want that monitor to be honest, I might get used to it and watch "TV" on it or something. but I can't imagine looking at that Oz coach for the next 15 years. come on man!

    Great review, thanks Coop. One stupid question from an English 'bird', I really want to buy one but currently Hydrow don't offer an assembly option. I KNOW it's easy to put together BUT I live on my own and have heard it's very heavy. I know you don't know me from Adam but, for an average woman, do you think I'd be able to lift this to put the feet and monitor on - is it really THAT heavy? I know it's a little heavier than the Peloton bike and I have that and that's hard enough to move so ..... Thanks :-)

    When will a rower finally sort out the crappy foot strap? they always come loose so need to be adjusted during the session. Something like the ratchet system you get on Technogym bikes
    All that money and they still give you a shitty strap

    • @rachelb.7751
      @rachelb.7751 3 роки тому +1

      If that is happening to you, you are relying on your foot strap to help bring you back during the recovery. This is not proper form. You should be engaging your abs and relaxing into the recovery. When you yank your feet against the straps, they will certainly loosen. It’s really just a safety strap in case you launch yourself back too hard.

    I SO wish they would just sell an option to row like any other rowing machine without the need for the touch screen and monthly membership. Just Row is an option for sure, and that’s what I use, but you still have to go through 5-10 minutes of nonsense and screen navigation to just get to the rowing metrics, and then nothing is saved and you have no control over the metrics at all. Very silly. It’s designed 100% to capture the user in a monthly revenue stream rather than giving the user a genuinely good fitness equipment experience on its own. Your review mirrors my take on this piece of equipment to a tee. I wish you could just start rowing and see the metrics right away. It’s too complicated for what it is. But the actual hardware of it is amazing. They just want to bleed the user dry with the subscription model of it. They will be bought by Peloton soon, mark my words. Plug and play for them.

  • @morsmagne
    @morsmagne 3 роки тому

    This was a mediocre review because this product is 100% dependent on the instructors. If they are Peloton standard, that might be ok. However, the chances are they are probably not quite that good. That’s when it gets dodgy.

    I own a WaterRower M1 Hi-Rise that I bought off Craigslist for $750. I watch youtube rowing videos. Works just fine for me. I'm actually cancelling as many subscriptions as possible. If I see any piece of equipment that requires a subscription I'm automatically passing on it.
