yeah no problem! In the end its a great skiff for the money if you can find a good deal. Personally I would like one of Tom Mitzlaffs hulls if I could go back and find a older hull before he sold the company to Chawk.
Yeah look back at some of my prior videos of my Gatortail I had. I enjoy this much more than the Gatortail already. The Gatortail has its place for sure though as far as all around you can do it all if you please. I speared grouper and such on it flats fished everything just long term I didn't trust the motor but that was my personal opinnion and I can't use that boat on some lakes for duck hunting due to motor restrictions in tallahassee (leon county). ua-cam.com/video/jlgGyLmZdJI/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/7D7YG826G6c/v-deo.html
@@joshohoro There are times for sure I wish I could have kept it they're awesome regardless of what what its customized. I wanted the steering wheel one like you had but couldn't afford it at the time. I almost bought where you did at L&M Marine great group of people when I discussed it with them and another boat I recently almost went to get just didn't wana make the drive from tallahassee to there.
Now that’s it’s been a year, how happy have you been with this boat? These are smaller things but I’ve been surprised by some of the workmanship issues you’ve pointed out especially for a boat company that’s been building these boats for so long
yeah the workmanship isn't high quality once tom mitzlaff sold the company from what it seems comparing old models to the newer hulls. its great for the price point like a maverick new is 70-80k and this was 27k...so the differences are going to be dramatic. But its great for what I use it for I can hit everything I want even offshore when winds are cooperating.
I enjoy the boat, I am not satisfying with the attention to detail if you look at some of my recent videos I found some faults either in the fiberglass or how things are installed. Overall its a great boat though I plan to keep it for sure for a long time.
@@Jsmith3030 yeah but some aren't imperfections just poor quality of work and design. Like the rear push pole flush mount theres straight foam exposed underneath and water goes straight in there...
@@SpearingWithSlurpey I had some chips in my gel coat here and there nothing crazy but the worst was the non skid that was sprayed on. It’s pretty bad but I love the boat. I’m just going to seadek the floor
@@Jsmith3030 yeah lots of chips pop up they didnt bevel the edging where the fiberglass ends you're supposed to round them out and then theres a lot of voids where they didn't roll the glass right and get the air pockets out...having to patch alot of spots. I like the boat but again disappointing the new owners care little to their art.
I would have them not install the flush push pole mounts the rear one if you have seen my other videos it straight exposes the foam under the cap so try to get some above mounted push pole mounts...water floods in a lot... - check the steering when you pick it up they did not set the tower correctly and I basically can't fully turn the motor right bc the arm bumps the tower...never got a fix for that unless I go hydraulic steering so just check the motor movement range. which brings me to (Electronic steering or hydraulic steering over cable.) - Sea deck on the tower - larger cup holders on the console, for them Stanley size cups. - hydraulic jack plate more so for just connivence Not too much I would want to change that I still can't in that lineup to save $ mainly its that first one about the push pole mounts.
Transom saver? no the boat is rated for a 70 this is a honda 50. Tilt up the correct height and thats it. The waves slapping your transom are 10x harder than whatever happens while you are trailering it in my opinion. I trailer it 30 mins to the coast thats how far I trailer.
Fair enough and yeah, prices of big names have gone crazy. I’ve owned east cape, maverick, hells bay over the years but the high prices have caused me to look at lower priced alternatives. Yours isn’t a tournament, is it? The best proces I’ve seen on new tournaments is 35 with either a 60 Suzuki or 70 yam. Nothing at 30 or less but I haven’t looked at the non tournament models so not sure how their price differs
yeah its not a tournament model just the standard 17 I got it at the Jacksonville boat show I believe it was 27k . The differences are literally only a different center console with an additional live well and a internal 13 gal gas tank. I just have a 6 gal gas red removal gas tank....andddd thats literally it....We like having a blow up Bote chair where the additional live well would be and I like having a large cooler for spearfishing so that upgrade is meaningless to me. The interal gas tank I hear also has alot of problems with getting the gas down the line Due to venting issues from what I've seen so I wasn't interesting in that model after hearing that case. Tourny model just sounded like a money grab to me honestly. Other issues I really have only came across with the boat is the fiberglass quality there have been quite of few chipping spots because they didn't edge properly and there have been bubble spots (invisible) meaning a pocket of air developed during the glass process and a slight bump causes a crack. I 've had to patch more than I wanted as time has passed but again its impossible to discover until it happens I am sure it happens all the time with other companies...just annoying with a new boat.
These comments are very helpful thank you

Last year Tom made them?
sick ride. i built my gator tail in a “skiff” type build but nothing beats a glass skiff for sure

Boat seems wet in a chop too, true?
not really but if the chop is coming from the side any boat isnt dry in this realm of boats its a skiff not even mavericks are dry

how much was your total build?
It was a boat show discount but it was just shy of 30k last Jan
