      60 - 70 would be a nice set up. I love the boat and the but the craftmanship shows in the price tag. This isn't a maverick or any other comparable luxury skiff. It gets the job done but does not stay "pretty" in my opinnion the glasswork is subpar in areas with the new owners since Tom Mitzlaf sold the company. If you get it new try and ask for the push pole mounts to be the above mount not sub. The rear one exposes the foam under the cap. If you look at some of my old videos I made a point above this issue. Not a wet ride at all very dry. I did also have an issue with my poling platform being set to far back I argued with the dealer and they couldn't believe their eyes when I showed the proof and they never would fix it even after I showed them and Mitzi themselves did not assist or help out in any way. The issue didn't let me turn the motor one way, the problem will go away if I get a jack plate or hydraluic steering over the cable steering...also another video I have if you look. No "regrets" buying it but I did wish I found those discrepancies first or just saved and found a used older maverick or even a older sub 2010 mitzi model when Tom owned the company.

    I have been looking into this for the past few days. The main benefit of this over a transfer switch is the upfront costs (nearly nothing) and you can decide which circuits you want running the house. For us, I would just turn off the electric dryer and the AC in the summer. Everything else can stay on. For us in SE Michigan, we can only get this through out electric energy company. It's $49 installation and $22.99 a month. We are not allowed to purchase them outright from everything I have read. It sounds like each state is different.

    Hello Jacob, This is John Chan the fisherman. I'm just little older than you, at 55 retiring from law enforcement career. When I was 18 , served in US military. Above all I'm a hard core fisherman, I own a 22 ft Boston whaler. Fishing in the north east is the best. My plan, after another season up here then I will move to Florida. I want to purchase a 17 ft Macko on One main reason is I noticed you have a trolling motor. On my current boat, I got a 2006 Suzuki 175HP. She still purs like a kitten. Yeah I probably would get a 2005 Macko then slap a 115HP Suzuki and a trolling motor. I will be happy as a clam. Enjoyed your video thanks. P.S. what was the top speed on the 90 horse?

    • @SpearingWithSlurpey
      @SpearingWithSlurpey Місяць тому

      Hi John! thank you for your service, most people do put a 115 on these makos the weight for both motors are the same now its typically just the computer chip setting is the difference for modern motors. I believe I got about 35-37 when it was trimmed right with the 90 with 2 people 3 people it was more like 32. Them older makos are heavier. There are a few older models that had more storage I would suggest trying to find one of those styles or if someone rehauled it. But if you want a project boat they sure are cool and fun to fix up. I did not end up keeping mine because I ended up getting a mitizi skiff and did not want to put the money into a new motor.

    Just a note the load limit light can turn on when you are on main power from the utility company, it is nothing to worry about because you are running all your breakers. It is when you are running on generator power that the load limit light is important, if it comes on while on generator power you are pulling to much load through the generlink. That was explained to me by the power company installer when mine was installed and I have seen the load limit light on while on the utility companies power. Remember that when a generator is connected you are limited to 30 amps or if you purchased the 40 amp version you are limited to 40 amps, when it is on utility power those restrictions do not apply as you have access to the full 200 amps of your panel.

    I have the Generlink installed on my home in Ottawa, Canada but the pricing is no where near as cheap as stated. The unit installed cost a total of $2500 including getting screwed royally by Ottawa Hydro for $400 for doing nothing. Coupled with my ultra quiet Honda EU6500 generator, it is an ideal answer to power outages. I don't turn off any breakers but leave them all on, since the draw in my home is minimal other than the electric clothes dryer. During the Derecho that hit Ottawa last year, I ran it for 68 hours total, along with powering neighbours with extension cords. My panel didn't allow one of those simple transfer switches to be installed so this was next best. Previously I had a Reliance transfer switch installed with 10 circuits, but soon grew tired of running extension cords into the back bedrooms as those areas weren't on the switches. The Generlink virtually allows me to forget about the power outages as it covers the whole home. I also easily runs my air conditioner. For me, it was a great decision that came at half the price of a standalone Generac unit....Generlink...$2500 plus Honda generator ($4500) versus $15K for Generac. However, your mileage may vary as a lot of jurisdictions don't allow them.....

      @ Update since then. I sold my Honda EU6500 and bought one of the new 10500 watt tri fuel generators to run the unit with natural gas. In terms of the things we can't run because its a 30amp unit "We" hardly use the stove we use our black stone outside and during these storm outages we put a window unit in the window so no need for AC and we are in Florida I never use the heat. If my wife wants hot water I can turn it on no problem with the unit and well at the same time... Storage was one thing I didn't like the rear pods weren't true dry storage and they didn't fit everything I needed the front storage compartment as well wasn't dry so it really felt pointless. There was no live well situation for fishing and I wanted to move to a center console design. I planned when I bought to maybe add that later on with Gatortail how I built it was in the plan but the next issue was the motor I started seeing some salt age and rust forming in areas I wasn't comfortable with keeping long term. I was thinking of selling the motor and going outboard since I started really diving more than duck hunting. Duck hunting in my area is all 10hp motor restrictions so I really couldn't use it in areas I wanted anymore. I started distancing myself from the mud motor life in general and wanted a more shallow water skiff and fish quietly. The motor noise was annoying long distance travels or even in slow areas its just a nuisance. The hull I do though still miss I loved the drop deck for diving and ease to get in and out of the boat. I also love trying things and going to new ideas and seeing other hulls and trying new possibilities.

      Subed back, thanks for the review yeah the vegetation has been pretty bad the past 2 years or so theyve been changing the rules on parking at the ramp so I think the boat traffic is changing dramatically and not cutting down the hydrilla as much.

    If you guys are going to continue to stand up, which isn't uncommon, please up that kill switch to yourself. I actually run 2 mud boats 16x44 go-devil and a 17x54 Excel F4 with a 4500 Black Death, I've been guiding for about 12 and take it from me I'm 43 years old, and you don't want to fall out in that cold water and have to chase a boat down. But congratulations beautiful boat!

      If you watched the video I stopped after 10 seconds of take off and put it on, then the next shot is of my dad with him using wearing it as well. Trust me I had it on just not in the first 10 seconds...

    Are you trailering a lot? What are you using for transom savor ?

    • @SpearingWithSlurpey
      @SpearingWithSlurpey 5 місяців тому

      Transom saver? no the boat is rated for a 70 this is a honda 50. Tilt up the correct height and thats it. The waves slapping your transom are 10x harder than whatever happens while you are trailering it in my opinion. I trailer it 30 mins to the coast thats how far I trailer.

    The swim was brutal this year. Good luck on the full IRONMAN in November!

      It was hardcore, people were swimming on top of me and some neighbors near me and some cussing matches at times lol then the current people didn't know how to swim...Watched a guy swim way out past the buoy and a kayak had to chase him down. I hope the full isn't as rough as the half was in november!

    Thats it finally the video that shows this noise.I charged my battery and put it in right after and got it to start one time and it ran strong and then it happened all over again I think my battery is just bad because the voltage drops down fast after charging it fully.

    • @maelstrom200018
      @maelstrom200018 5 місяців тому

      It turns out after reading the right voltage 12.9 volts and not turning the engine I went and bought a $200 Harley Davidson battery and it fired up and still has had no problems.It had lost its Cold Cranking Amps due to faster aging I believe since I have to park it covered in 105 degree weather everyday not having a garage at my apartments.

    • @SpearingWithSlurpey
      @SpearingWithSlurpey 4 місяці тому

      Yea might also need a true battery charger too to bring the battery back to life something like 15amps or so. If not yea the battery is probably old.

      yeah no problem! In the end its a great skiff for the money if you can find a good deal. Personally I would like one of Tom Mitzlaffs hulls if I could go back and find a older hull before he sold the company to Chawk.

      Last year Tom made them?

  • @davide3129
    @davide3129 6 місяців тому

    Fair enough and yeah, prices of big names have gone crazy. I’ve owned east cape, maverick, hells bay over the years but the high prices have caused me to look at lower priced alternatives. Yours isn’t a tournament, is it? The best proces I’ve seen on new tournaments is 35 with either a 60 Suzuki or 70 yam. Nothing at 30 or less but I haven’t looked at the non tournament models so not sure how their price differs

    • @SpearingWithSlurpey
      @SpearingWithSlurpey 6 місяців тому

      yeah its not a tournament model just the standard 17 I got it at the Jacksonville boat show I believe it was 27k . The differences are literally only a different center console with an additional live well and a internal 13 gal gas tank. I just have a 6 gal gas red removal gas tank....andddd thats literally it....We like having a blow up Bote chair where the additional live well would be and I like having a large cooler for spearfishing so that upgrade is meaningless to me. The interal gas tank I hear also has alot of problems with getting the gas down the line Due to venting issues from what I've seen so I wasn't interesting in that model after hearing that case. Tourny model just sounded like a money grab to me honestly. Other issues I really have only came across with the boat is the fiberglass quality there have been quite of few chipping spots because they didn't edge properly and there have been bubble spots (invisible) meaning a pocket of air developed during the glass process and a slight bump causes a crack. I 've had to patch more than I wanted as time has passed but again its impossible to discover until it happens I am sure it happens all the time with other companies...just annoying with a new boat.

    Boat seems wet in a chop too, true?

    • @SpearingWithSlurpey
      @SpearingWithSlurpey 6 місяців тому

      not really but if the chop is coming from the side any boat isnt dry in this realm of boats its a skiff not even mavericks are dry

  • @davide3129
    @davide3129 6 місяців тому

    Now that’s it’s been a year, how happy have you been with this boat? These are smaller things but I’ve been surprised by some of the workmanship issues you’ve pointed out especially for a boat company that’s been building these boats for so long

    • @SpearingWithSlurpey
      @SpearingWithSlurpey 6 місяців тому

      yeah the workmanship isn't high quality once tom mitzlaff sold the company from what it seems comparing old models to the newer hulls. its great for the price point like a maverick new is 70-80k and this was 27k...so the differences are going to be dramatic. But its great for what I use it for I can hit everything I want even offshore when winds are cooperating.

      yes I can but I am 5'10 so any taller I would the front is angled down slightly how I have it to at least run some what on plane without taking it down
