    Looks great. We remodeled our kitchen 18 years ago. My husband is a carpenter, we purposely took it slow, so we could decide if changes were needed. I still love everything, no changes needed. Love your channel 😍

      That’s great to hear! Prior planning prevents redoing it all later 😅 sounds like you made some great choices. You never really know how you’ll use a space until you USE it and figure out what’s frustrating and what’s not.
      I appreciate you watching and hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    Ok Shara, it’s perfectly clear to me now that my problem is not my kitchen; it’s me. When you say half your kitchen your kitchen cabinets are empty and the majority of your new pantry is empty, I realize my problem is stuff, not space. But I would still love a pantry room like that! So functional and good looking.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Годину тому

      Before this house, we moved SEVERAL times and each time, we’d throw stuff away because we were tired of moving it. Our last home was a 700 sq ft one room home (long story) that was literally half a garage. That really trained us to be as “stuff less” as possible because we literally had no room for anything we didn’t actually need. We still have that mindset now. It can be a good thing and a bad thing sometimes haha.

    Shara's Pantry, also known as "The Project that Keeps on Giving!"😊 Love this installment and the variety of choices for making a very functional space out of something that was much less so. I have found that shallow pull-out drawers (shelves?) are underrated for their usefulness! Nice to see how several of your recent video projects are all coming together. Looking forward to how it all comes together... whenever you're ready for the big reveal. Hopefully the resident quality inspector wil give a pass to the rest of the build....

    I love your videos! You make building look so easy. And it really is if you break it down into pieces, like you do. I built a coffee bar last year and love it. I learn so much from watching you and I don't get intimidated by thinking of building something I think is out of my league. Just step by step... Thanks!!!🥰

    Love this pantry. Wished that I had more of those empty spaces. Again, great job and (almost) finishes. It all seems so easy, but I know, it isn't. For me it isn't "measure twice and .... " but better "measure thrice and ..... " 🙂. Keep up the good work Shara and ...... happy weekend and happy building.

    I've been looking forward to your next pantry update so it was great to see how it's coming along! It is such a major improvement over the old pantry. Yes, it's good to take a step back and take time to think about how you want to proceed. Meanwhile, I look forward to whatever you decide to work on next. Does Danny like to do woodworking? It was great to see that Bubby is hard at work doing his inspection duties!

      Yeah, if I were building a house, I’d definitely not make it that big. But we bought the house and it was already here-so might as well use it 😅 I’m hoping with the extra storage in here, when we remodel the kitchen, we can make it a bit smaller and use the kitchen space a little differently. We will see.

    I can totally relate to not having a lot of stuff and then wondering about design. We downsized before moving (3 different times!). We're now looking at updating our kitchen and considering what cabinetry we'll need. I've looked at other's organizational videos but people have so much more stuff than we do. It would be great to see a video where you talk about this issue further. I can see how this build would appeal to people with lots of stuff and be great for resale. And, of course, it's beautiful!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Годину тому

      Our last home was a 700 sq ft studio, so we really got in the habit of only keeping/using what we need and making what we already have work. I’ve added TONS of storage to our current home and 95% of it sits empty. But our home has plenty of room and spaces where cabinets just seem to make sense. And I like building them and it’s like decor-they look nice and add character to the space.

    Personally I like the idea of a clear stain for the drawer fronts. I think the contrast is very nice already. Also if you do not need upper cabinets DO NOT put them in, you get better use of the counter top that way. Project looks great.

  • @mfrederickson1

    I noticed you didn't paint the inside of the cabinets or shelves. Sometimes you do and sometimes you don't. Is it just taste? Or undecided? Building my first bookcase/cabinet soon (using your AWESOME plans) - as soon as the weather breaks - my "workshop" is the same garage bay where I park my car, so it's an either or, and I hate scraping the windshield 🙂 Thanks as always for sharing - always learn something from your videos.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Годину тому

      Hi! I usually don’t seal the inside of my cabinets if they’re behind doors/drawers (every now and then I do if I’m in the mood-but it’s rare). But I do usually seal open bookshelves because the inside is visibly exposed and you can see if the outside was sealed and the inside wasn’t. So in that case, I seal all of it so it matches.
      I feel you on the weather-it’s just miserable working outside in the cold. Once my fingers are numb, I’m done for the day 😅 hope it warms up soon so you can make some sawdust! Happy building!

    Would you mind sharing the cost of building your own cabinets? My current cabinets are 31 years old and in relatively decent condition though they could use refinishing in some areas. The fronts are stained maple but the box is particle board. They are basically starter home quality. Roughly how much would it cost to do a small kitchen??

  • @nafnaf0

    Using a CAD program in advance (Chief Architect, SketchUp, really anything) to layout everything and then change design can really help with coming up with a cohesive design before building. They generally aren't hard to learn either

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Годину тому

      Hi! Yes, absolutely. I use Sketchup to draw plans for all my projects. It’s great for layouts. My problem is that I don’t know how I will actually use a space until I USE the space and see what works and what annoyances need to be worked around haha.
