I was there last night and can not describe how great the atmosphere was. They rocked literally rocked. Lost my voice from 😱 screaming and singing so no talking for me today.
Astonishing performance of a song from 'Sticky Fingers' (1971) - one of their best albums. Who would have thought they would still be performing this nearly 50 years after I first saw them play live at Stafford and Knebworth.
It's one of my favorites too. And it is generally overlooked. And apparently they were to end the song less than 3 minutes, and end right before the jam. But the did jam and the recording continued until the end. Upon re-listening they decided to keep the extended jam. My appreciation for it strong, but it also reminds me that I asked for the record (Sticky Fingers) for my birthday present from my unmarried slightly prissy Aunt. There was a big family party for my birthday and for the first time, I got to choose what music was played. Of course we played the hell out of SF. Later in the party I wandered into the grownup gathering upstairs. The Aunt who gave me the record then announced to everyone in the living room (esp. me): "I don't understand what the name of the album means --'Sticky Fingers' ". I was just drunk and whatever enough to explain it to her and show her the album cover, real zipper and all. From then on she gave me sweaters for my birthday.
To see them play this live - one of mine and my wife's favourite Stones songs ever - was beyond words. Thanks Matt for recording and sharing this masterpiece.
