The Niak is my go to tent, I absolutely love it, light, easy pitch and loads of room. I’ve had it in some terrible conditions and it’s never let me down.
Great video Chris,so much so that I headed up to Linn of Dee myself on Monday and hiked to Loch Avon for a camp. It was a wonderful calm mid-November wasn’t it, looks like that will all change now.
Strath Nethy looks calm 😊 I've only just turned my heating on down here in southern England, normally it would be on in October, and even now it's only coming on slightly, overnight - similar to your area by the sounds of it; there's been so much cloud it's been relatively warm.
Hi Chris. A good looking tent but no doubt expensive being a Hilleberg. We were on Bynack More last Monday in the cloud and easily resisted the temptation to continue to the Saddle and return along Strath Nethy, the longest, most boggy and tedious strath in Scotland!
Yes, it is expensive. £970! But should last a long time. In my memory Strath Nethy was long, boggy, and tedious. It's definitely the first two but the upper section - I was camped about half way along - was wonderful. Not having been there for many years I'd forgotten what it was like. I only remembered the bogs and length!
"Strath Nethy, the longest, most boggy and tedious strath in Scotland" - as we found out after a desperate retreat from topping out on Creagan Cha-No into a very sudden gale-force snowstorm at lunchtime. Eventually got to Glenmore Lodge just after midnight! Luckily they had left the door unlocked. Mate then had to walk another 3 miles to dig his car out of the lower ski-centre car park, I was done.
A nice little video Chris, you should do more of them. 😀 I've also become a bit less tolerant of small shelters in winter. Tending now to favour our Nallo 2 over the Akto. The added weight and bulk is a reasonable trade off for a bigger and more comfortable space on the long nights. But, in big winds and/or snow the Nallo can sometimes feel a bit insecure to me.
Thanks. I will do more videos! I also like pyramids in winter for the space - Bach Wickiup 3, MLD Duomid XL. The Niak isn't as stable as the Nallo in my experience, let alone the Akto.

Hi Chris, when you say moderate winds, what would you class this as? Im looking at the niak, but thinking it's not going to take much wind. Thanks
20-25mph. It is quite strong. For regular use in very windy places getting the 10mm poles would be worthwhile.
@ChrisTownsendOutdoor thank you, that's what I was expecting, the 10mm however are like hens teeth 😂😂👍
A lovely spot for a pitch. Hope Tony cleared all the dog hair out from inside the tent😁. New subb 👍🏼
Nice video Chris Hilliberg nice tent but to pricey. I like my Helm 2 affordable and decent tent
