This is a problem in our area and it's not just LI batteries. We can't even pay the yards here to take alkaline batteries, let alone the lithium batteries. So how are you to dispose of these? I have a 30 gallon barrel full. I know several scrappers who just hide them in the trash. Any suggestions?
For us, safety and cost are the primary reasons we no longer accept Li-Ion batts. We have had two fires due to exploding lithium ion batteries. We have buyers, but the cost of handling the batteries, the special packaging and shipping surcharges associated with them, compounded by the safety concerns makes them unattractive and frankly a liability in our eyes.
As of now we lack the proper infrastructure for recycling li ion battery’s. In the future new methods of battery recycling will be discovered, and the infrastructure for recycling will become more developed. But in the future, we could see the Ev market move to a higher power dense, solid state battery. But this is just speculation.
Li-cycle just opened a plant in AZ and from what I read they mainly recycle EV batteries. Hopefully they can start to recycle smaller batteries soon. Otherwise people will just continue to throw them in the trash and cause more fires.
I am also fortunate enough to have a buyer for Lithium Batteries. The value is mostly from the Cobalt or refurbishment value. I get $0.25-$0.50/ LB
Great pricing!
Thank you Thom for your words of wisdom . Keep up the good work. God bless y'all.
Very welcome!
I am fortunate enough to have an ewaste buyer who pays $.20/lb for Li-ion batteries.
Awesome!
Wow!

This is one of the problems that we have and there are start up companies investing millions and billions trying to learn how to refine them.
Hello I can buy your Lithium battery scraps

Thanks! Safety first!
The yard I use has a Tesla model 3 battery in their possession, it has not moved in 3 months
VERY hard to do anything with and the automakers do not want to take them back.

Agree 100%

While they help our electronics- they are a bad environmental and recycling problem still.
Why is the lead battery market so bad
