Though one could also argue that the story of Anakin is also a dark parallel of Jesus' story.
@@MaryCherryOfficial Unlike Anakin, I think Lucifer has too much pride and hatred to seek redemption and is consumed in wanting to drag everyone down like the Emperor. Anakin also has Luke advocating Christ-like forgiveness for his sins.
Well, except that pride wasn't solely the cause of Anakin's downfall, it was paranoia and the fear of loss. In an ironic twist, it was his foolhardy attempt at stopping the visions from becoming true that well...made them come true.
@@Darthshadow46 Sure! It's definitely not a 1:1 comparison. There's definitely more than Biblical influences on Star Wars, such as eastern philosophy, samurai, westerns, Arthurian lore, and classic cinema.
the take at the end on Palpatine and Anakin was actually super interesting. I never entertained the idea of Palpatine planting nightmares into Anakin's head and to be honest, That's something I've never heard before. Good take
It’s when you realise everything Anakin was desperate to prevent happening happened because he tried to prevent it, he made it a reality by his own actions. Palpatine knew exactly how to get in to Anakin’s head just with his words, I’m not sure about actually planting thoughts and dreams in his head as opposed to just preying on the existing thoughts and dreams, but I guess it’s not out of the question.
I mean, that's one of the reasons. The other ones: 1) Family. 2) I hate sand. Tatooine reminds Anakin of his childhood, growing up a slave. He'd never return, not even Vader would.
In the actual canon, he never attacked the children. He was just trying to show them his cool lightsaber and they tried to jump him, so he had to defend himself.
In legends, he did come back to slaughter another group of Tuscan Raiders. He left one alive and afterward other groups actually began to worship him for what he did.
@@aaronratliff338 He actually returned in the new Canon, albeit under Palpatine's orders to help Jabba. And yes, Palpatine did that just to mess with him.
This movie is one of the greatest tragedies of all time. It's like MacBeth in space. All parties experience catastrophic failure except for the Emperor, who got exactly what he wanted. It shows the pure evil and manipulation of the Sith, and also how the restrictive bureaucracy and emotional suppression of the Jedi are unhealthy and counterproductive, ultimately leading to their own downfall.
This was the most heartbreaking of all 6 episodes. Seeing and growing to love Anakin from his childhood to his conversion to the dark side is just a very sad story. No matter how many times I watch this movie, it still moves me to tears. I cried with you in every heart breaking moment. Great reaction video. I love it :)
They pulled 2 twins out of Padme and presumably 2 placentas. Her stomach should have gone down some, plus the camera went in for a close-up and lingered on her belly. She was supposed to have looked like she died pregnant so that Vader or whomever wouldn't go looking for the child.
Honestly, I feel like at this point, Windu almost had him. The promise of trust, what Anakin has wanted from the Jedi for literal years - the single greatest thing Windu can give Anakin. I have this head canon that Anakin was undecided about what he was going to do once he reached the Chancellor's office; right up until he actually reached the office. He's thinking the whole way there, from the Council chamber down to the speeder, on the flight towards the Senate, on his way to Palpatine's office, even when he's in the office he has not decided - ultimately, he trusts his feelings, and they betray him. This isn't what Qui-Gon meant when he said "Trust in the living force". Anakin knew Windu doesn't trust him, but the promise of trust holds him back - it's almost enough to reach Anakin, even then; the last chance to stop him falling, and Windu almost did it. Just not quite.
well mace never trusted anikan ever since they met. in the clone wars tv show whenever they interact mace always seems like an unimpressed dad sort of character.
Revenge of the Sith is by far my favorite Star Wars movie and one of my favorite movies of all time. The action, the emotion, the music, Hayden Christensen's performance as Anakin, and the story is all amazing. I always love seeing people reacting this way when they watch it for the first time because Revenge of the Sith needs more love than it gets
There’s something kinda magical watching someone see this for the first time. I cried when I first watched it (I mean I was 5 and watching my role model kill 5 year olds)
Loved your insight after the reaction Mary. This movie truly was devastating and heartbreaking. Padme and Obi Wan’s last scene with Anakin still gets to me so i couldn’t help but tear up with you during that 😅 I look forward to your reactions to the sequels!
@@MaryCherryOfficial Mary, HFP has some AMAZING Star Wars videos. I HIGHLY recommend checking them out. I've seen several reactions to his videos and they do not disappoint!
Windu -“You are on this council but we do not grant you the rank of master” Anakin - “I realize the council has made a decision but given that its a stupid-ass decision I’ve elected to ignore it”
Ive talked to people who love this franchise, seen everything multiple times, can quote it day and night, and yet STILL not pick up on as many things as you have in your first time watching them...bravo, Mary
General Grievous is a Kaleesh warrior from planet Kalee. He become a cyborg to be more powerful than Jedi. He is not force sensitive. Additionaly he is a Jedi killer and he collect their lightsabers. :)
I feel you, Mary. When I was twelve, I left the theatre just as tearful as you. Revenge Of The Sith was actually the first Star Wars film I ever saw. I didn't know what lightsabers were, who the Jedi were, who the Sith were, or what the Force was until then. When this was my introduction to Star Wars as a twelve year old, I only recognized C3PO and R2 D2 thanks to some merchandise. Now, I own all nine films.
@@MaryCherryOfficial oh my god you can’t even comprehend the quantity of prequel memes. I’m pretty confident prequel memes make up about 60% of the internet.
Anakin in the last movie: I will even learn to stop people from dying! Palpatine in this movie: He could even keep the ones he cared about...from dying. Anakin: SAY MORE RIGHT NOW!
8:51 in case anyone was wondering, the reason why palpatine was able to defeat the other Jedi so easily was because he used an ability of the dark side called “force scream” it sends a wave of hatred and other emotions at enimies throwing them off gaurd, the reason mace was able to hold is own is because mace windu is not only a master of the light side of the force, but the dark side as well.👍🏻
Supposedly Ewan McGregor covered his mouth when he said “Killing younglings” because they couldn’t take it serious and would laugh and had to do some retakes😂
I think it depends on your primary SW growing up. The only thing I ever quote from the prequels is the line abt hating sand. Everything else I quote is from the original trilogy, but that's what I grew up with. I totally get if this was your primary trilogy why this would be your quote well.
They seriously need to hire hayden again To play the role of Aniken again especially since he looks the same but also hopefully he’ll be in the new Obi-Wan series for a big role or hopefully get a new series for himself again
Anakin in this movie: "Love won't save you, Padmé! Only my new powers can do that!" Anakin in Episode 6: gives up his power to save Luke, because he loves him.
Love, yes, but also a reactor shaft. Vader had the possibility, the plan, the willpower to pull it off. He didn't just have the belief he could save his son, he actually had the tools to do it. Even if it cost him his life. I believe, in that moment he became someone else, someone new. He's not Vader anymore, but he's also not Anakin. This is a new man, even though he lived for barely an hour, likely less. Just enough time to reach the hangar bay.
I feel bad for anakin. The whole reason he switched to the dark side was to protect padme, but he basically ends up killing her and after he becomes darth vadar he remembers what he did, so i feel like he regrets going to the dark side.
He does! By the time after he’s murdered the Separatist leaders, Anakin has accepted that he’s taken a path he can never come back from… and he tears up for having torn apart his own morality and realizes it.
I love how much you payed attention to the movie. Such a great reaction. I've seen this movie a million times but it still makes me super emotional 😢 😭 😪 🤧 . Totally my favorite too
Mary, know this moved you to tears makes me happy. I watched this in the theaters opening weekend and it was mocked. Watching reactors such as yourself respond to the prequels in a positive situation makes me happy these films will continue to be cherished for decades to come.
Fun theory: the emperor wasn’t lying about the Plageius story. Padme “losing the will to live” is the emperor siphoning her life into Vader, but the medical droids can’t know that so she’s just dying.
Anakin never should have kill Dooku, never should have intervened in with Windu against Sidious and disobeying orders. Believe what Obi-Wan said about Anakin has during to the dark side, responsible for the deaths of the Jedi in the Jedi Temple. And for once in your life, Anakin. Remember this: "Anakin, training to come a Jedi is not an easy challenge, and even if you succeed, it's a hard life."
Aldaraan guy: we will take leia, me and my wife always have been talking about adopting a baby girl where she will be raised as a princess on a beautiful CGI planet. Obi: and what of the boy. Aldaraan guy: idk send him off to be a water farmer on a desert planet lol
Weird how everyone says that because while the sequels were messy, they're still better in terms of acting, design, effects, characters. But to each their own ig.
just before the helmet closes over anakins face, even with his burnt vocal chords, he whispers out a barely audible sentence "Padme, help me" if you turn it uo using headphones you can hear it
Yessss, this movie is amazing! Glad you enjoyed it! Prequel haters get so annoyed when fans call this one their favourite but they can get over themselves, it's fantastic
You can tell right from the first film: "We will be watching your career with great interest!" Also how is she literally predicting everything that actually happened so well
This video was in my feed and although I had my doubts going in, I'm glad I gave it a chance. Seeing someone watch the craziest episode for the first time is always a treat :)
NO SPOILERS FOR SEQUEL TRILOGY - There will probably be a bunch of people telling you not to watch the sequel trilogy and that it's terrible, this is why they feel that way. The story of the OG trilogy (Luke, Han, Leia) was continued in hundreds of novels, comics, and video games combined called "Legends" and fans spent years creating a community around this content. Disney bought Lucasfilm and announced that all of that content would be axed and named "non canon" which made many fans mad because that's hundreds of $ and time they spent on this content. Disney reassured fans that they would be respectful to the material and would even maybe use plots and characters from the "non canon" content. But they said this was needed to give them artistic freedom when creating a new trilogy, which was understandable. It was an exciting time to be a star wars fan. Once the movies were released, many fans felt the plot was rushed and that there wasn't a clear vision from the start. And it didn't help that for "The Last Jedi" they brought in Rian Johnson and gave him full creative control. Basically what happened was JJ Abrams did Force Awakens which was a safe reboot of the series, then Rian Johnson came in and made probably the worst star wars movie ever and derailed the plot; then they had to bring JJ Abrams back to do the last one but by then many fans had lost faith and the plot was messed up. the story was just not planned out properly. When fans became angry and started to question the competence of the leaders of Lucasfilm (especially Kathleen Kennedy) She replied by saying "The sequel trilogy is extremely difficult to make because there's no source material. We don't have comic books". Even though like i said at the beginning, yes they did have hundreds of comics and novels filled with amazing characters and stories. Disney also made it so that EA games has exclusive rights to make star wars games and it has been this way since 2013 and all EA has done is create 2 bad reboots filled with loot boxes and ONE single player story game (Fallen Order) that was... Ok.. not bad.. but not on par with previous Star Wars games. Hopefully this sheds some light on why Star Wars fans are divided and upset with the entirety of the franchise. Im not here to argue with anyone, i just wanted to give context to those who may be newer Star Wars fans and wondering why many OG fans are upset and done with Star Wars, especially sequel trilogy.
Thank you for writing all of that out, to offer some perspective. I for one, love The Last Jedi. It's not my favorite of the sequel trilogy, but in general the sequel trilogy has a lot to love. And while maybe not planned completely, it was planned more than people give it credit for. The reaction I've seen from first-time viewers has been generally positive. And I really look forward to seeing what she thinks. The trilogy was definitely the most polarizing thing Disney has done, but to their credit, they actually are creating a fantastic multimedia universe that feels cohesive. With series, books, comics, and yes even games (plot wise). The expanded universe (Legends) was awesome, but also extremely disjointed and far more inconsistent than the Current Canon. P.s. Rey for one, is a character that I personally relate to a lot. More than any other. And that's why all of the hate toward her, has been a shame in my opinion.
Well, it also could be the fact, that at least Episode 8 and 9 are just not that good. Honestly, i don't give a sh** about SW comics and books. I only know the movies and they just failed in making them good. Simple as that. But i very much enjoyed the two "A Star Wars Story" films. I think Rogue One is one of the best SW films to date.
TLJ was way better than TFA. It was way deeper especially with Luke and Kylo, it was the movie which by far gave most character development to Kylo and it's theme of hope was well executed and unlike what many fans says, Luke's character isn't that different from the OT. People also claim that Luke tried to kill Kylo which isn't the case at all, it was a dark instinct Luke got from seeing a vision of everything he loves getting destroyed which was way worse than what almost got him to kill Vader in Episode 6.
I saw this movie the night it premiered in 2005. I was in Seattle on vacation and managed to get a ticket for opening night. I was so shook up after the movie, I went back to the hotel and just sat there. 😟 Lol I wanted to see Vader's back story for years. Imo they did a GREAT job with this movie!! VERY EMOTIONAL.... YOU DID A GREAT JOB WITH IT!!
6:19 This isn't Obi-Wan's first encounter with Grievous. Not by a long shot. He knew Grievous all too well and anticipated that Grievous would want to fight him himself.
“He could influence the midichlorians in the force to create life...” “There was no father, one day, I was just pregnant with Anakin.” A fatherless birth.. The creation of life.. Plageuis’ Apprentice. Since the beginning, Palpatine was there.
I absolutely adore how perceptive you've been throughout this whole series! You simply "get" it. Anakin's whole arc from start to end is a tragedy in the classic greek sense. It starts off heroic then turns sad yet remains beautiful all at the same time, finally becoming heroic, once again at the end. You could say his life was the perfect storm to bring about both Darth Vader and the death of Palpatine. Padme is one of the more tragic characters as well. Imagine seeing the one you love becoming something abominable and you never suspected it despite many early signs. Then them turning so unfarhomably ruthless before your eyes. Is it any wonder she dies of heartbreak? Did you notice how Anakin's last breath and Vader's first coincide with Padme dieing? There are theories about that. The same can be applied to how the effect of Anakin's fall affected Obi Wan. Definitely watch and make your own mind up concerning the sequels. I suggest watching all of the How it Should Have ended Star Wars shorts related to the films you've watched. Theyre absolutely hilarious! Please react to them too if possible. You deserve something lighthearted after this tear jerker! I'm glad UA-cam recommended your vids to me. I look forward to wherever you decide to take the channel. MTFBWY! 👍
It drives me crazy when people act like Anakin and Vader are different people, thereby absolving Anakin of the horrific crimes he committed. Anakin wasn't even classically a multiple personality. He was in denial of the evil he'd committed, and how he'd brought about the very thing he was trying to prevent--Padme and his child's death. Instead of rejecting the path he'd chosen, he embraced it, because he refused to believe he was redeemable. His very responses in later animated series and films about him "killing" Anakin, and that he was "weak", is exactly the response you'd expect a terrified-at-heart person to say about their old self, who was good and courageous. It was the only way he could deal with his cognitive dissonance. It was Luke, through his own love and acceptance of his father, that guided him back to the light side...despite his father's horrific actions and behavior. Of course, Lucas had to have Anakin die--it wouldn't have been a pretty sight in a space fantasy to have Anakin tried as an enemy of the Republic and a mass murderer after the Empire fell. Instead, much like Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, Anakin dies and avoids all of that.

yeah totally. his rise, fall...and his redemption? imagine if the real lucifer's story hasn't ended yet and he gets a redemption too?!

Notice too that Padme still had her belly when she was buried to ensure that nobody would go looking for the Skywalker twins.
Yeah
They pulled 2 twins out of Padme and presumably 2 placentas. Her stomach should have gone down some,
plus the camera went in for a close-up and lingered on her belly. She was supposed to have looked like she died pregnant so that Vader or whomever wouldn't go looking for the child.
i'm so glad for that

@@jayfeatherthesnarkymedicin8160 mace tryna clap them cheeks

You missed the part about the new regime throwing out the actual VII-IX story Lucas gave them to use and basically telling him to go pound sand.
Yup even the actors though the sequel trilogy was bad. Thanks for the explanation.
People also claim that Luke tried to kill Kylo which isn't the case at all, it was a dark instinct Luke got from seeing a vision of everything he loves getting destroyed which was way worse than what almost got him to kill Vader in Episode 6.

aww thank you so much!
