    I love these videos where they are focused towards aspiring pilots. Basic aviation knowledge an interview tips are the best.
    Videos made out of passion will always be better than the ones made for money.

    It seems to me that European airlines are much more picky and discriminatory about things that don't even have any indication as to how well you will do your job than US airlines are (what has a psychometric assessment to do with your ability to safely fly a plane? Nothing! And it will discriminate against people just for being different from the norm)... sad that they gatekeep this wonderful profession so much.

      Italian here. I absolutely agree with what you said. 5 years ago I went through an extensive selection for an ab-initio program (specifically targeted to people with no experience) held by a smaller European airline owned by a very big one. Last step was a simulator session that included timed turns and constant rate climbs/descents in IMC. Safe to say no one without flight experience could pass this final test, myself included. All the people who passed already held a PPL (at least). Fast forward to 2024 I moved to north America and got accepted into another integrated ATPL ab-initio program with an airline and I'm about to graduate in a few months. Selection process felt much better and fair here.
      Never give up on your dreams folks! Cheers

      Yep, they focus on things that really shouldn’t matter. There is one thing I can partially agree on and its height limits. Lufthansa has a 165cm minimum when Airbus and Boeing say the limit to fly their planes is 157cm. And quite frankly, as a 160cm gal, I can reach everywhere in the cockpit.

    I transitioned from a C-172 to the right seat of a Boeing -727 at a major US Airline in 1979 - the first of 13 because of continuous Airline bankruptcies. Unlike these guys, my family did not support me in any way. I was all on my own financially and otherwise. I retired from United Airlines a few years ago.

    After having been rejected at Lufthansa (ab-initio) not long ago, this video is incredibly reassuring, thank you! I did not go to a seminar beforehand because I was convinced they should see the raw me. Turns out the raw me fell apart in the interview exactly as you described despite otherwise performing reasonably well in all other tests... I'll definitely be taking a coaching of some sorts before going for another attempt at a different school!
    Question: What should one answer in this setting? Interviewer asks: "Have you taken an airline assessment before?", honest answer as you should: "Yeah!", interviewer asks: "So we are only second choice?"
    Obviously they are, but confirming that is not a good look. And answering along the lines of "I was overly focused on , now took a broader look around and found your opening" opens up for "Oh so you didn't properly research beforehand?".
    What is the "correct" answer?

    • @fabiocf3708
      @fabiocf3708 4 дні тому +1

      Not a recruiter, but I would answer honestly but in a politically correct way.
      You are job seeking, and they are talent hunting. In that process it is natural that you apply to many companies and the first one was just that, the first one to contact you. It's a natural part of the process, and as you researched the company before the interview, you can sprinkle some of the things that made them stand out for you.

      @flying82002 Hi Alessandro. It was my personal experience that there were CRM issues at BA, particularly on short haul These were isolated incidents but CRM training was lacking (no recurrent CRM day for instance, just a few slides during the sim briefing) and I could see the difference when I joined Emirates where a much more structured approach was used. BA remains a great airline that I’m extremely grateful for and a great employer. To this day I still don’t understand why you took such offense from me relating my experience. In any case BA’s training is excellent. Their safety record is there to prove it. Being a copilot wasn’t easy in my early days. We relate such events to explain that they can happen and hoping the next generation doesn’t have to go through them. I hope you make a good attempt at BA and get to enjoy your time there.

    • @airlineselectionprogramme3156
      @airlineselectionprogramme3156 4 дні тому

      @FlyingB2002 In my time at BA, CRM training wasn’t as extensive as I expect it to be today. We had one CRM course when joining. Recurrent CRM was then limited to a couple of slides during the OPC. This is very little, especially by major airline standards. But of course CRM days are costly, the airline was trying to use its resources wisely. But not having a CRM recurrent day meant that issues developed with some individuals and when you flew with them it was sometimes quite hard as an FO. CRM was trained in a much more active and structured way at Emirates. It was a priority for them and you could feel it. As a result, the atmosphere in the cockpit was excellent despite the sheer tiredness and all the other issues one could face with that employer. I am very grateful at BA, they have always been and remain a great airline. Technical technical training is excellent. They are a fantastic employer promoting a just culture. I really enjoyed that and I miss them to be honest. We share our experiences so the next generation and you too, can learn from them.

      I agree with the premise. Having CPL(A) with Atpl theory is necessary but not sufficient. You have to study hard for long hours to learn concepts thoroughly, your English has to be really fluent to be able to interview properly, and without any acceptable technical knowledge even if you are a native speaker you don’t go far. Quizzes (Atpl) are the first hurdle true, psychometric tests also a challenge which you need to practice and not underestimate. SIM preparation is also hard. Make a budget for doing all this, 2 or 3 questions databases for at least 3 months (maybe more), same for psychometric tests depending on the airline (or BQ in case of German operators), also go to a professional SIM preparation school.

    For young people , they need to know qualifications involved ,what is the earliest point they can start ,what training schools are available around the world , the overall costs incurred , these are the most stressful scenarios.
    I would imagine a military career in flying would be a safe bet , and you can transition along the way , would save costs in flying academy or schools .
    I remember being young lived planes , designed them ,made them ,when the time came I failed on eyesight , I always said I could fly blind ,joking aside ,it's hard if you loose your career .

      Take a class 1 medical so you know for definite that you definitely can become a pilot I’m a wannabe pilot but I Have a Vp shunt placed in my head and there is a good chance I won’t pass a class 1 medical but I’m still gonna try also have backup careers in mind in case you don’t pass the class 1 medical such as maybe air traffic controller, cabin crew etc so you don’t end up feeling lost if you fail the medical. If you do pass the medical then I recommend taking a suitability test to make sure You have the right mindset to become a pilot then when you can afford it take trial lessons and work towards your private pilot license and maybe even take glider lessons as well.
