I graduated ATP a month ago with all 7 certificates. Took 14 months, and that was the same for most of my classmates. Just a heads up for viewers. It's taking a lot longer than advertised right now.
@@MoonKingGamingMobile 32 is young, I’m 28. I was in class with plenty of people in their early 30s. And if you’re in a position to pay out of pocket for the program, living expenses covered, it takes a lot of risk out of the equation. There might be other paths you can take to get ratings with that amount of cash but doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me at all.
I took the long route. Started training late December 2015. Mom and pop part 61 school whilst going to college and working almost full time from zero hours to CFII. I was working 3 jobs after graduating college to afford the rest of my training and passed my CFI ride in December of 2022. Best day of my life in the last 10 years was putting in 3 2 week notices at the same time to my other jobs. I JUST got to a part 135 SIC position a few months ago. All roads lead to Rome though. ATP is a 8-9 hour day, 5 days a week process and more expensive. I paid roughly 75k from zero to CFI. You'll pay almost double for that at ATP these days however, you'll get it done SUPER quick. Pros and cons to both.
Finished up at ATP about two months ago and don't really have any complaints. The program is a bit longer than advertised, but a lot of this is due to weather, DPE checkride wait, and/or personal schedule. No program is perfect and there were hiccups, but this is the same of any endeavor. Be flexible, be resourceful and be a good student. The program is structured, but it is the responsibity of the student to manage scheule, studying, expectations, etc. ATP provides the resources to get you to your end state. No one loves you more than you; so commit to the program and view ATP as a facilitator to your goal - becoming a airline/commercial pilot.
Hey man so would you say your 100 percent satisfied with atp? Where im at i can see they are the only ones that offer the hours i need, how fast did you find a job after completing? I was thinking about paying the school cash. And just take a year off of work to do this .
ATP was a great student experience for me, they advertise a 9 month course but it took me 12 months from delays out of my control. Only failed my cfi initial oral. The problems arised when I started working for them. The instructor experience at ATP is awful. Our weekly meetings would be the instructors getting scolded on how we need to do better. We would have students fail check rides from a brain fart they had that we don’t really have control over. We can teach a student to stay calm during a checkride and to go back to basics if you are overwhelmed but when they forget to turn on their fuel pump for takeoff that’s just a slip up. I was reminded every day how disposable I was and if my students weren’t perfect they would replace me. And they did. My student did a preflight with a DPE on his checkride and didn’t have his checklist in his hand. Which we have done every training flight before hand. The DPE failed him for not using a checklist and my student blamed me for not reminding him to have the checklist in his hand during the preflight. So ATP let me go after that. Saying that we should “cut ties” and I’ll be better off somewhere else. Safe to say I moved to a different flight school which actually values me as a person. All of that to say. ATP is a great program for those who want to get their ratings done really really quick and love a structured schedule. But DO NOT work there. Find any other school to work for. Phoenix east aviation, Epic flight academy, American flyers. But ATP treats their instructors like trash.
Awesome video, im currently a full time Police Officer myself. First and foremost, congrats on retirement. Getting there is no easy task. I'm attending a 2 year 141 program here in NJ, almost done with my PPL. It has been a real grind working the night shift and being a full-time student, but hopefully it'll pay off in the near future. Awesome content, keep up the good work!
Dude thats awesome! Thanks for your service! And I can only imagine how exhausting that is. Stick with it man, the quality of life is so much better! It’ll be worth it!
Hey all I’m 25 yo old I grew up in a family of aviation. Ever since I was able to walk I wanted to be a pilot. When I was about 16 I stared take lessons and got to about 25 hours total time, before I stared hanging around the wrong crowd which led me into a position to where I was no longer able to fly, stared working some jobs met the mother of my child and it went from there, 1 or 2 years ago I was working at a local airport which re sparked my aviation bug and when you mentioned seniority it resonated very much so. However I have financial commitments that is preventing from pursuing my dreams. I’m thinking about joining the military serving for either 1 or 2 enlistments either work on avonics or a&p and than I may be able to hop on the bandwagon. Hopefully, thing work out in my favor but knowing how things go with life it may not be the case. I just thought I’d vent how I feel, sorry for ranting on. Thanks guys.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I feel encouraged as a 41 year old to see that you went through this certification and career pivot at a similar age.
Hi Josh I'm from Barcelona, Spain and here everything is more bureaucratic in general. With very dense ATPL theories and in which there is a lot of filler content that only creates confusion, I am currently in the theoretical phase of the ATPL. I wish I could have such intensive courses so I could get my licenses as quickly as possible and be able to focus on gaining experience in flying. Congratulations on your channel and I wish you much success, you are an example to follow. Greetings an a big hug from Barcelona 😎🤙🇪🇸
I can't imagine how frustrating that is! But stick with it and keep moving forward, nothing worth doing is ever easy. Just take it one day at a time, it will absolutely be worth it!
@@josh_on_the_fly Thank you very much for your words Josh, of course despite these difficulties I will not give up and I will continue step by step every day. Greetings from Barcelona and a big hug!

I have not able to complete/ pass Physics class in college. So, anyone can help me please to help my GOAL please? I would candidly appreciate Sir/Madam. I want to become an airline pilot and need to prove myself and the world that I have achieved someting in my life.
I’ve been thinking of leaving a slower part 141 school and really want to fly every day with a rigid schedule! (Prior military in me needs that consistency) Your video helped me solidify my decision to switch. Thanks!
As an ATP student, don’t go to ATP. This man had a very lucky experience with the program at his location. I can tell you from the place that mine was based at, it was very different. Some instructors are very good and passionate about teaching, others are not and will refuse to do grounds with you even if you need help. And as far as plane availability? When my friend went through, there weren’t enough planes so he wasn’t able to fly for months, and when I went through I had a flight where we squawked at least four planes in a row trying to get up in the sky. Not to mention the management seems like it’s actively trying to kick people out right now both instructors and students, probably related to them getting sued right now. So they’re moving up timelines and forcing the students and instructors to bear the brunt of ATP’s mistakes. Maybe you might get lucky and get a location with friendly people willing to work with you. I’m getting separated from the program due to my deployment, a short one at that. I was told beforehand they would try to work with me and freeze my program till I came back but with this recent shift at the company, they’re looking for any excuse to boot people to keep their timelines up. Even with DPE availability they’re struggling. Yeah it might be better than some places where people are waiting months, but other flight schools have their own DPEs on hand ready to go as well. Some people at my program waited a month after finishing everything trying to get a checkride, and as a result got so rusty (mixed with being sent to a totally different location in a way different and busier airspace where ATC was too busy to accommodate) and only a 1.0 flight to get them spun back up (about as much time to take off, take a look, and land), so they failed on a maneuver.
Small critique of your video that may have impacted your experience and opinion. You are definitely a model student getting all of the written exams out of the way before starting and also scoring no less than 97%. That’s both rare and impressive. Also, you must have went to a great training center with newer equipment. I’m currently in CFI Academy at ATP. My experience is much different. The Archers flown were built in 2014, 2016, 2018. The Seminole that I had the pleasure to fly was as old as I am, a 1979 model.
You are absolutely right about the seminole, I stand corrected. Our seminoles were a bit older as well and only had G500’s which we thought were sooo antiquated! 😂😂😂
Hi Josh, stumbled on this and I see a lot of very structured learning tools. Would love a couple vids on those (obviously without violating copyrights of ATP). Maybe one on a great VFR Nav Log (how you'd improve it), acronyms, etc.
Wow, it's really cool to find a local aviation channel! I started my PPL at Ellington, and finished it up at H&R at T41 in LaPorte. I've been out of flying for a while, but I'm starting to get back into it. I'm in the Civil Air Patrol at Ellington and will start getting qualified on our planes there once I get my medical renewed in a couple of weeks. I've been considering a "career 2.0" change and pursuing my old aviation dreams and trying to move through my ratings quickly. My current problem is just trying to find someplace that will loan me the money to do them.
Dude thats awesome! Just stick with it, its definitely worth it. The new tail number is N43CD if you're ever flying and hear it; I'm based out of KLVJ in Pearland.
I’ve worked with multiple former ATP students (new CFI graduates). Very poor general knowledge and more. I continue to be unimpressed at the quality of their product (pilot graduates). I’m a retired major airline pilot and active general aviation CFII-MEI.
I am going to another Part 61 school. Your GI bill can be used towards only your PPL and they pay ~ $16K. There are stipulations as to WHAT school they will pay though.
@@JohnReyes24 it depends. You can use it towards a PPL only certain schools are accepted. If you go to something like Embry Riddle you will take a lot longer but they pay for a lot more.
How flexible are they on a training schedule? Looking to maintain my 6 figure day job which is remote and flexible + fly in the afternoon/evenings. I have my PPL already not sure if that matters specifically with a training schedule.
Hey! Starting ATP myself in June. It’s not very flexible. They actually told me from the jump that I cannot have a job and do training with ATP. It’s one of their requirements because they want you to be able to focus on staying the course during training
@@daniisbored212Very curious how one makes ends meet without working for months and likely taking time to find a job that may not pay very well from the get go. I can only imagine that you’d have to have a ton of money saved up just to survive regardless of financing the training. Very interested to hear real testimonials about how people did it (especially if they have a mortgage and bills).
@@mboser04 Most of the students that I have met so far have taken out loans. I did that for myself and had the loan amount reflect living expenses. I am married and have a mortgage and car payment so I can cover those things while my spouse takes care of the rest. Its a very big sacrifice to go the ATP route but I was able to do it knowing that I can work for an airline off the bat. I'm a former flight attendant taking advantage of my airline's program. Even if you don't have the ties to an airline yet, there are a lot of connections through ATP. Not gonna lie, it's hard. It is stressful at first but it's worth it for me and many others. I also want to stress how important it is to have proper support whether its from your partner, family, or whoever in your life.
@@mboser04some have family support, atp also provides housing that can go on the loan, but yes I would say to save atleast 10k in your own funds before starting, atleast that’s my plan
Hi Josh I'm a veteran as well, thank you for all your insight. I hoped the ATP program would accept the GI bill, but hearing that it doesn't is discouraging. With that in mind, did you just take out a loan and pay it off afterward? Did you end up getting any offers to become an airline pilot? and lastly, with the Gi bill not being used, do you feel like your wasting it?
Private (PAL), Instrument (IRA), and Commercial (CAX). To take the PAL you will need to complete some kind of ground school like the Kings or Sportys Online Ground School. And then to take the other exams you will need an instructors endorsement.
Unbelievable to me that the GI Bill would not cover a program like ATP for direct training to go be an airline pilot! I too looked at using my GI Bill for them back in 2016 but found out quickly that it wasn’t an option. I went ahead and got my business finance degree with it, but now I’m wishing I had went to some sort of aeronautical university that would have got me the hours and ratings needed. I’ve been seriously considering going to ATP, but the $80k price tag (I’m already a ppl) is pretty daunting
So my scenario might be different, but finding a really good Part 61 has been a life saver. I've been in the Army Reserve for 14 years, and a Chinook pilot for 6 of those years, and there's not many options for military assistance for aviation. You can use COOLs for a Part 61, or GI Bill for a part 141. Already being a commercially rated rotor pilot, part 141 just seemed like a waste of time. That said, if you find a good Part 61 school like mine, they might work with you on block rates (paying up front for a discount), and if you come in prepared, studied, and you're good on the controls, you can move very fast. Biggest delay has been DPE's. It's a nation-wide problem right now, but my PPL checkride took 10 weeks to lock in. (Tried 3 different DPEs; 2 cancelled because they were double booked, but also weather, the Christmas holiday, and aircraft maintenance all played a part in the delay.) Making your training and checkrides happen is a lot more hands-on that ATP, but there are good ways to do it. Big thing is find a good Part 61, and develop a rapport with a DPE that won't flake out on you. Currently working on my instrument ASEL, which at this rate I'll have finished it in 4 weeks total. Price wise: PPL, Inst, Commercial, Multi, ATP-CTP, and Jet course should be just around $50k and take 9 months to finish. Hope this helps!
The only thing I am worried about is 1. The Written Exams and 2. The Check rides. How prepared did you feel for these after the study materiel and flight training they gave you? Also if you are comfortable sharing, did you fail any of your check rides?
An Ex international student here from Aviator College. Believe me that Written Exams are “easy”, maybe except PPL. You will use apps to help you passing exams and please follow my suggestion: prepare yourself and invest your time just to pass the exams first. After that, when you get all your written tests, study because you want to be a good professional and a safe pilot and you will succeed in all your check rides
I did not fail any checkrides and felt more than prepared for them. The written exam prep is really all on you. They give you access to Shephard Air study guides for all of them as soon as you sign up for class, so its really about how hard you study and prepare yourself. For the knowledge portion of the checkrides you will do several ground classes for each phase, but you can also attend other ground trainings as well if you want to bulk up on it. I attended all of my ground training sessions as well as several others just to review to make myself more comfortable.
Can some please provide me books pdf for the whole ATP flight school pilot training from ppl-Cpl? I’d be really grateful, I’m finishing my 12th international and want to prepare for what I’m gonna face ahead. Thank you in advance
I did all my flight training before they published the FAA exam questions. Back in 1975. You really had to study and you took the written at the FSDO, it was the GATO back then. I went part 61 Private then Commercial then Instrument, then Multiengine, CFI, CFII at that point it took about 12 months, I held off a year for CFI- me. gee you need 500 multi hours to teach in twins at the time., Then I made the transition to helicopters in 83, That took not very long about 6 months, Commerical Insturment and CFI and CFII . Did my ATP in '81. I don't think i spent more that 35K from start to finish on my training for both airplanes and helicopters. I have been retired since 2021, My last decade was doing mostly utility work in helicopters. I got in just about 47 years in. I would have liked to have not retired, I wanted another 7 years and go to 2028. Well at least the pay is better than it was. But the cost of entry is also much higher. I didn't borrow money and for the whole of my working life, I stayed out of any kind of debt. Would I do it again? Yeah, I got to do what I wanted and live where I wanted mostly in the more remote parts of the country and the world.
Hello Josh I’m in CT and looking to start ATP on the summer, in the Hartford location. do you think you can share what material you used to study for the written exams? Thanks Paulo
Out of curiosity Josh, what is the max age that ATP will take students and what would you say would be the best amount of saved income in order to simply live off of while going to school, especially for a single 35 year old veteran with no kids? Yes I'm talking about me hahaha. I really enjoyed flying, but just like driving a car I'm never comfortable with someone else behind the wheel or in this case stick.
Lol the first time i looked at atp, it was 53k. Looked again after a decade or so...86k. Now its 109k . All i want is to get my cfi and teach. Im not looking to go the full ato route.
I'm in Houston as well and considering ATP but I'm curious did you go to the Conroe or Ellington campus? I'm about equal distance from either but I'm leaning towards Conroe b/c I see they have multiengine and on-site maintenance department.
Thanks for the video. I am a sergeant with a major Police Department in Florida and about to retire myself. I’m working on my instrument rating now. I’m going through a part 61 because I’m still working full-time. It is not an easy road. How is your aviation progressing?
Me 2 me: Is this achievable? Am I financially fit 😢? I have watched your videos and some others everyday for 3 weeks. I’ve always been infatuated with planes. Have always told my kids to consider being a Pilot as a career option. Never tackled this dream bc I came a mom at 17. I’m now 32 with 3 kids but my youngest is almost 10. After, further thought and anticipation I wonder if I can make this my reality. I already have BBA in business - minor in marketing & work at a major OEM corporate job & have the potential to break 6 figures. Already at 80K. But it’s not flying ☹️ I hope I have the schedule and can find financial help.
Married with a young kid. I have an ATP school within driving distance of my house. This would be a second career for me. Being that i have a young child and married, knowing that this school requires daily interaction. I am on the fence about it. I would really like to get through school as fast as possible to get to the career side but i also want to make sure I am able to focus and get through with the best education as possible. What are your thoughts? I'd leave my job to attend the school for the length of time it takes. So outside of my family, the flight school would be my number 1 priority. Thanks.
If the school is pretty close, that’s really gonna cut down on your total time for the day that you’d be away. Also, if you’re good at studying on your own, then a lot of that can be done at the house, cutting ground school time to the minimum. In my cohort, it was obvious the ones that were taking the time and studying at home and knew the information when they came in. Those that didn’t know the information, and clearly weren’t studying, were required to attend more ground schools than the rest of us to make sure that they were prepared for the check rides.
bro, the grind doesn't stop after 3 years of flight school. You're looking at 8 years at the regional level, after a few years waiting to be picked up by one of them. If you have a family, and you value your family, don't do it. Its not worth it.
How can I get all my exams done before starting ATP flight school? Is that through ATP? And how did you study? Did ATP provide you with the books and study guides? Thank you for the video, I am considering ATP, I think it might be the best option for me.
You can have ATP do any or all ratings. I remember having a guy join or cohort to do his commercial and comm multi phases. It was definitely somewhat of a culture shock for him coming from another 61 program but he adapted and was successful!
Hey Josh, as a young guy in his early 20's do you think going all out on the full time course including housing is worth it? Looking at around $130,000 loan. It's a bit scary but if I commit, I commit. Is the payoff there?
your take on it is one of the best I've seen. I am thinnking of taking a dispatcher position there and maybe eventually CFI there too. Skydive? That had to take some time to build hours. Did skydive myself. Was that a PAC? How many flights a day? 2 flights a day is alot for a student if every day. And I'm suprised there 61.
The fact ATP doesn’t allow students to takeoff or land at airports that are ifr immediately discredits it as a good training facility for 121 pilots. Sorry but you should not be doing approaches to minimums for the very first time in a jet.
I knew it was crazy expensive, but this is the first time I realize that their CFIs are former students… so your CFI may have only been flying for 6 months? Are you kidding me.
Yup… its a little hard to swallow, but the VAST majority of CFI’s around the country have fewer than 1500 hours. At least at ATP they probably have 1000 hours in the last year so they are super current.
No I trained in Conroe. They didn’t have a location at EFD when I went through which was a bummer because I live 15 minutes from ellington. Instead I drove an hour and twenty mins each way up to conroe. As far as advice… get as much done before then as possible. If you can get your writtens done before hand you will have so much more time to focus on flying.
ATP is horrible, they treat you like a number 100% of the time, and half the instructors there think they’re in Top Gun. Their management is cold as ice. And they act like you’re already an airline pilot, As a student, you’re treated like they employ you; no facial hair, shirt must be tucked and belt on, no jeans, or you will get pulled into an office and yelled at. Oh and you’re paying over $120,000 to get disrespected and yelled at by the way. You will change instructors 5-6 times and 4 of them will be terrible, they have barely any knowledge and just make you learn everything online in their webapp, and on zoom grounds. Not surprising because they don’t pay their instructors for grounds, despite charging you for them. And the amount they do pay the instructors is so far below the average for CFI’s in any given area, we’re talking you getting charged $350 per flight hour, and they pay your instructor $18.25 per hour lmao. Each flight block is 3 hours long and you fly 5-6 times a week, let your wallet enjoy that, or better yet, let sallie Mae take care of it for you! If you’re going to go to ATP, and you’re going to sign up for that loan, you better KNOW you want to be an airline pilot. If you don’t, you’re wasting your time and money at ATP, and even if you do KNOW, you still could have a way better experience at a way lower cost at many other flight schools. The few bones I’ll throw ATP: 1. Maintenance is fantastic, planes were always clean and taken care of, I always felt safe in ATP planes, can’t say the same for all other flight schools in my area 2. It is quick, you will not be finishing in 7-9 months or whatever they advertise. Unless the weather never stops you, you don’t get sick, your instructor never cancels or gets sick, and your plane never gets taken, it’ll take more like a year to get all the way through, which is still fast for all the ratings needed to start instructing.
Nice video, Josh. I'm also a retired police officer & i have about TT 1,250 hrs. My question is, I'm trying to build some more time or even better get picked up...any suggestions would be appreciated.
I would still personally say that atp is one of the best options out there if finances aren’t problem. My personal experience: I got my PPL at atp after 11 months, and then it took another 11 months to get to my instrument check ride, needless to say I double busted on it and got canned from atp. I know what ur thinking another disgruntled person that didn’t make it through the program (yes and no) I quickly moved on and got my instrument rating a month later. My main point is if your not in a financial position where you can afford to pick up and move on (I ran through 90k worth of hours since I did most of my commercial hours relocating planes with an instructor) securing another loan is very difficult for some folks with that I’d say the ratio of making it through private is 50/50 so if you go there with the mind set of this is my only option and I have to make it work, you might be leaving with a 40,000usd debt and not even a PPL (in my nearly two years at the school I’ve watched well over 50 students leave with nothing.
I’m on my way to ATP as of right now man, and im hoping to get in, I whiling to drop everything (full time job, free time) to do this full time program being a pilot is something I’ve been wanting to do since a kid and my mind has not changed one bit of it, yes I’ve my up and downs and thoughts of doing something else bc the main causes of that is the pricing, but im here for all, like they say you only live once and if you like something you chase it not matter what’s around it and the bumps, your video really pushed to do it and here I am on the way to the ATP office with my parents. It would be nice if you reply to me and have a private conversation with me after I get out.
Will my GI Bill cover all the schooling? I live in Arizona and checked out ATP’s website and it says they do take the GI bill but I need my PPL first, is this true?
Yes im in the airforce now and I heard from retired fighter pilots that went airlines told me you need to get a PPL out of pocket to use your GI bill because of VA rules
Hey bud! Can you help me out and point me in the right direction. What's a good online ground school and what all did you use to study for all the written exams? If you can help me out with this, I would highly appreciate it.
I’m currently a Police Officer thinking about leaving Law Enforcement due to being burnt out with poor leadership, etc. I’ve been heavily looking into Aviation and since your former military and former Cop I was wondering if you’d have any advice for me. Maybe be able to answer some questions.
DO NOT FALL INTO THE TRAP. READ THIS FIRST. A lot of facts are not mentioned and a lot of information are not correct unfortunately. The information that ATP has brand new aircrafts is not true, the information that ATP has a fast program is absolutely not true, it only happens at one location only where weather is not an issue. In my case, we were 35 students training on 3 aircrafts, one of them was always squawked (had maintenance issues), and when weather was nice we either had two aircrafts to fly 10 students at the most that day or one aircraft was reserved for a checkride and we end up with one aircraft only. The information that you will be expelled from the program if you fail a checkride is not correct, ATP will kick you out of the program if you fail any stage check twice, and that could happen within the first 20 or 45 hours of training. The program is build around them making money out of you and they make more money out of student who are expelled from the program than student who go all the way and finish the program. Most of the instructors that were at the training center where I went got kicked out after I left and they were really good instructors. They kicked me out of the program after 45 hours, I went to a different school that has over 12 aircrafts and within 9 months I'm going though my CFI academy now and I fly in the same state I was training with ATP. Guys do your homework and find about the information I'm telling you. I don't know why this guy isn't telling the whole truth.
Well what school are you going to now? I see so many comments about how ATP is not that good, and that there are other schools out there, but nobody ever mentions the names of other schools
Thoroughly? Lol man I’m sorry, don’t go to ATP guys, every single CFI I’ve met from ATP has about the same level of knowledge as a private pilot from a quality school. If you’re going to do flight training do it right, ATP is the laughing stock of the flight training world.

How much did it Cost
@@Mr.Deleonn it literally says it on there site. 108k zero to commercial
What school did you wind up working for?

Awesome video, im currently a full time Police Officer myself. First and foremost, congrats on retirement. Getting there is no easy task. I'm attending a 2 year 141 program here in NJ, almost done with my PPL. It has been a real grind working the night shift and being a full-time student, but hopefully it'll pay off in the near future. Awesome content, keep up the good work!
Dude thats awesome! Thanks for your service! And I can only imagine how exhausting that is. Stick with it man, the quality of life is so much better! It’ll be worth it!
Wow, I respect the grind. Goodluck

What don’t you like about part 141 ? I was thinking on using the VA benefits to do part 141 but a lots people like the part 61 route
Which state are you in?
Yea which ATP did you go to?
Whitch atp? Im looking to attend austin Texas hopefully it goes well
How do you know that you aren’t just unlucky instead of this guy being lucky?
Nice info! Currently enrolled with ATP starting in the next couple weeks located in south Houston area as well going to be flying out of EFD!
Any updates? I love watching EFD. How are the classes?
How is it going for you?
I see the atp planes flying alot since they've added the program.
Magenta line queens over here 😭😭😭
Hi Josh, stumbled on this and I see a lot of very structured learning tools.
The new tail number is N43CD if you're ever flying and hear it; I'm based out of KLVJ in Pearland.
very informative and well rounded. I'm glad I came across this video and recommended videos like this because I would have wasted all that money.
I’ve worked with multiple former ATP students (new CFI graduates). Very poor general knowledge and more. I continue to be unimpressed at the quality of their product (pilot graduates). I’m a retired major airline pilot and active general aviation CFII-MEI.
How did you go about starting your aviation career? I am looking at ATP but would like more professional opinions
I am going to another Part 61 school. Your GI bill can be used towards only your PPL and they pay ~ $16K. There are stipulations as to WHAT school they will pay though.
Have you used your GI? Trying to use it for PPL but heard you have to hop on a degree for it
@@JohnReyes24 it depends.
Great video love your channel keep it up ❤
Thank you! Will do!
New aircraft? I flew with them in 2020 and it was only 6 pack. We had no glass. Planes were old.
QUESTION! So you can actually take which written test before start flying?
Yeah it was definitely a bummer. I already had a bachelors and REALLY didn’t want to spend another 2+ years in school.
Go to a 141 school, most you can use the GI bill because it’s connected to a college.
Hey Josh, please make a video about your skydive pilot experience. I'm considering that as an option for building time when I'm in that phase.
Ooh I like this idea!
I attended all of my ground training sessions as well as several others just to review to make myself more comfortable.
great video

Great video. Been debating jumping into ATP or another route but this was great
What did you pick?
Out of curiosity Josh, what is the max age that ATP will take students and what would you say would be the best amount of saved income in order to simply live off of while going to school, especially for a single 35 year old veteran with no kids? Yes I'm talking about me hahaha. I really enjoyed flying, but just like driving a car I'm never comfortable with someone else behind the wheel or in this case stick.
Lol the first time i looked at atp, it was 53k. Looked again after a decade or so...86k. Now its 109k . All i want is to get my cfi and teach. Im not looking to go the full ato route.
This video is gonna blow up
I'm in Houston as well and considering ATP but I'm curious did you go to the Conroe or Ellington campus? I'm about equal distance from either but I'm leaning towards Conroe b/c I see they have multiengine and on-site maintenance department.
Thanks for the video. I am a sergeant with a major Police Department in Florida and about to retire myself. I’m working on my instrument rating now. I’m going through a part 61 because I’m still working full-time. It is not an easy road. How is your aviation progressing?
Going fantastic! Through some networking I was able to land a job as a 135 Corporate Jet Pilot flying Hawkers and Lear Jets!!
ATP charges almost 300 an hour for old six pack single engine planes. Cheaper planes other places.
I believe ATP is a Part 141 flight school.
How long does it take to get a job as a airline pilot after graduation?
Awesome video brother.
I am a Law Enforcement Officer in Central Florida and looking to get into ATP. I’m glad someone can relate with me. Thanks for the info
Thank you!
bro, the grind doesn't stop after 3 years of flight school. You're looking at 8 years at the regional level, after a few years waiting to be picked up by one of them. If you have a family, and you value your family, don't do it. Its not worth it.
Hi There Josh,
Was searching for ATP flight school and wanna ask you in which city, State you took your ATP flight school ?
Wow, Great video!!
EY I skydive too and just finished my comm multi with ATP where do you jump bro?!!
A little bit of everywhere. Spaceland Houston is my home DZ.
How can I get all my exams done before starting ATP flight school? Is that through ATP? And how did you study? Did ATP provide you with the books and study guides? Thank you for the video, I am considering ATP, I think it might be the best option for me.
From what I'm looking up a online ground school and looking up practice exams online
Is this only for people that have no ratings? Do you know of anyone that joined ATP after recieveing their IFR cert?
You can have ATP do any or all ratings. I remember having a guy join or cohort to do his commercial and comm multi phases. It was definitely somewhat of a culture shock for him coming from another 61 program but he adapted and was successful!
Luckily, I found a basic older 172 at a smaller airport that is only $120 and $50 for dual. Can roll that savings into my instrument.
Are you in Colorado? I saw another video about aspen. I’m a former first responder trying to decide which school I want to use.
I heard they don't pay their flight instructors well.
That's literally how 90% of every instructor is.
Hi Josh! Thanks for your input! Did you train at EFD in Houston? I am starting March 18 with ATP. Any advice is much appreciated!
The few bones I’ll throw ATP:
1. Maintenance is fantastic, planes were always clean and taken care of, I always felt safe in ATP planes, can’t say the same for all other flight schools in my area
I can barley afford a car and you want me to buy a plane?
Where’s my part 61 boys that aren’t in 100k debt!
If I am able to afford a share of a plane would you recommend that? Edit: should’ve watched the whole video 😂
Atp is a 141 school no?
Nice video, Josh. I'm also a retired police officer & i have about TT 1,250 hrs. My question is, I'm trying to build some more time or even better get picked up...any suggestions would be appreciated.
How old are you?
How much did they pay you to say this?

How long were you a police officer for before you switched to a career in aviation?
Which atp location u went to ?
I’m currently a police officer and thinking about getting my commercial license
543 Coralie Village
Right, it’s nice how the con section doesn’t mention any of the really shtty stuff they do to students. Those watching this, avoid ATP.
Thoroughly? Lol man I’m sorry, don’t go to ATP guys, every single CFI I’ve met from ATP has about the same level of knowledge as a private pilot from a quality school. If you’re going to do flight training do it right, ATP is the laughing stock of the flight training world.
It is? I know plenty of atp grads at my legacy airline. NOBODY GIVES A SHYT!
I can almost guarantee you went to riddle, mtsu, spartan, or und. Tell me I'm wrong.
@@BobbyGeneric145 honest question for you. I’m enrolled in ATP and will be starting in a couple of months. Do you recommend ATP? I just want to get the schooling done as quick as possible.
The worst CFI i ever had were from ATP.
Because those enrolled ATP don’t take the exact same checkride as you? You should really think before you troll on the internet you are embarrassing yourself 😂
My ambition or passion since childhood is to be an airpilot, but have some college education creditis.
Have completed Calculus I and Calculus II. I have not able to complete/ pass Physics class in college. Would it need it as prerequisites to attain ATP flight school?
So, can anyone help me please to help my GOAL?
I would candidly appreciate Sir/Madam.
I want to become an airline pilot and need to prove myself and the world that I have achieved someting in my life.
My friend you think I am start the curse at 50 yers old? I cam make comercial career
Sure if you want to spend $120,000 and be trained to minim standards.
Yup, very minimum standards.
Ether go to a 141 school or hire an independent CFI who knows what he’s talking about.
ITS LIKE MCDONALDs
NOT AT ATP NOOOO!!!!!
atp is trash pilot puppy mill , oh and if you wanna work as cfi there have fun with 18h
What’s the point for making this video?
Man I thought that was laid out fairly well with the title and the first 10 seconds of the video, but I guess not. 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for commenting though as the engagement drives reach and viewership!
Same reason why you clicked to watch it lol thats kind of an invalid question
