  • Now, here's a story that'll make your eyebrows rise like a rocket taking off. Brace yourselves, ladies and gentlemen, for the "poop-powered" VW Beetle, a true marvel of modern engineering and, dare I say, biological wizardry. It's not your run-of-the-mill car; it's the first in the UK to run on gas derived from the nether regions of sewage sludge. You heard me right!
    Picture this: it's a classic convertible Beetle, just like any other, except for a little secret tucked away in the boot - two sizable cylinders of methane. The car still has a regular fuel tank, and a teeny bit of petrol gets it going, but within seconds, it gracefully switches to biogas, thanks to those methane-filled cylinders.
    Now, what's really fascinating is the potential of this "poo-powered" Bug. Wessex Water, the masterminds behind this creation, reckon that the yearly waste from 70 average households could keep this car chugging along for a whopping 10,000 miles (or 16,100 kilometers, for our metric friends). How's that for putting waste to work?
    So, how does it all work, you might wonder? Well, it's a bit like a mini sewage miracle. The gas is brewed up through a process called anaerobic digestion, where special bugs (the microbial kind, not the VW Beetle kind) break down biodegradable stuff in the absence of oxygen, producing lovely methane.
    Now, you'd think a car running on sewage would be a real stinker, but let me tell you, it's as odorless as a daisy on a spring morning. No unpleasant aromas here, folks!
    In the past, attempts to fuel cars with this kind of biogas didn't exactly do wonders for performance, but fear not! Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, this Bio-Bug drives like a champ, just like your regular VW Beetle.
    Assuming this six-month trial goes swimmingly, GENeco, the clever folks over at Wessex Water, plan to convert their entire fleet of vehicles to run on biogas. Talk about a company with its eyes on the future and its carbon footprint in check.
    Now, across the pond in Sweden, they're already rocking a fleet of over 11,500 vehicles powered by biomethane from sewage plants, so this isn't just a pipe dream; it's a blueprint for the future.
    And you know what, folks? In a land where recycling often stops at sorting your trash, turning human waste into fuel is nothing short of the pinnacle of green innovation. Kudos to the mad scientists who turned this wild idea into a reality!

    Most people pass gas at a rate of 24 times per day. So you would have to eat some raunchy stuff. To have that reserve you need fir when those tanks run out. If they could just hook a re-gen so when you pass gas inti the seat. It was vacuumed into the combustion boosters.
    Just think eating pizza could get that last ten miles.

    So, those two tanks at 200 PSI, exactly how many miles of driving does that translate to? Liquids are denser than gas, so, i'm guessing the two tanks we saw represents a VERY SHORT range between refills.

    Awesome. Some guy is working on bacteria battery. Sounds like there's exhaust to this car if real, but you'd think the exhaust can be burned off like they do with "flaring." Maybe friction heat can help with that if necessary. Probably optimized cultures and source matter can go in tanks, but seems like it should be ev hybrid with the methane powering the battery.

    • @FletcherHillier
      @FletcherHillier 7 місяців тому +1

      When you burn methane it turns mostly into Co2 and water, which is a lot less harmful than methane. If humans are going to produce waste, might as well benefit

    • @sampleoffers1978
      @sampleoffers1978 7 місяців тому

      @@FletcherHillier Okay, but I'm not sure engine exhaust is same as burning it. I will try to read up on that point in case it's different. I do suspect genetically modifying some crops, maybe with bamboo genes and or seaweed growing on land, high methane yield is possible. Removing the exhaust emissions definitely priority that point, but open air carbon capture machines can probably be built to run pretty efficiently from bio diesel or any range of fuels because its not a traveling car machine, just stationary.

    • @FletcherHillier
      @FletcherHillier 7 місяців тому +1

      @@sampleoffers1978 An engine is definitely burning fuel. Biogas plants attached to animal farms can capture a lot of methane, and humans produce a lot of waste that could feed biogas plants as well.

    • @sampleoffers1978
      @sampleoffers1978 7 місяців тому

      @@FletcherHillier It's burning liquified methane sure. In Europe they burn the gas directly....Won't be legal here. I'm asking if the exhaust really is co2 and water? Methanol? If that's true, then co2 is manageable to remove if efficient open, carbon capture machines are built to remove co2. If the exhaust is more complex, it's issue. Ammonia is trending topic now. Unsafe for cars in regular form, but for hybrid ev's, ammonia could be easy storage of renewable energy, making charging network way easier for ev's. Small ammonia powered generator or motor in hybrid could charge ev battery.
